So I am working with blobs in visual basic, and I'm saving image files to a database. When I save them I have their name.jpg showing up in a combobox, but when I save another image and it refreshes the list, the name of the previous image shows twice. I'm not sure how I managed that. I am new to this so don't look down on me too much!
When the button on my form is clicked:
Private Sub btnSaveBlob_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles btnSaveBlob.Click
SaveBlobToDatabase()
refreshBlobList()
End Sub
My methods:
Private Sub SaveBlobToDatabase()
GetCompleteFilePath()
Dim BLOB() As Byte
Dim FileStream As New IO.FileStream _
(CompleteFilePath, IO.FileMode.Open, IO.FileAccess.Read)
Dim reader As New IO.BinaryReader(FileStream)
BLOB = reader.ReadBytes(CInt(My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFileInfo(CompleteFilePath).Length))
FileStream.Close()
reader.Close()
Dim SaveDocCommand As New SqlCommand
SaveDocCommand.Connection = conn
SaveDocCommand.CommandText = "INSERT INTO DocumentStorage" &
"(FileName, DocumentFile)" &
"VALUES (#FileName, #DocumentFile)"
Dim FileNameParameter As New SqlParameter("#FileName", SqlDbType.NChar)
Dim DocumentFileParameter As New SqlParameter("#DocumentFile", SqlDbType.Binary)
SaveDocCommand.Parameters.Add(FileNameParameter)
SaveDocCommand.Parameters.Add(DocumentFileParameter)
FileNameParameter.Value =
CompleteFilePath.Substring(CompleteFilePath.LastIndexOf("\") + 1)
DocumentFileParameter.Value = BLOB
Try
SaveDocCommand.Connection.Open()
SaveDocCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
MessageBox.Show(FileNameParameter.Value.ToString &
"saved to database.", "BLOB Saved!", MessageBoxButtons.OK,
MessageBoxIcon.Information)
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "Save Failed",
MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error)
Finally
SaveDocCommand.Connection.Close()
End Try
End Sub
Private Sub refreshBlobList()
Dim GetBlobListCommand As New SqlCommand("SELECT FileName FROM DocumentStorage", conn)
Dim reader As SqlDataReader
GetBlobListCommand.Connection.Open()
reader = GetBlobListCommand.ExecuteReader
While reader.Read
lstBlob.Items.Add(reader(0))
End While
reader.Close()
GetBlobListCommand.Connection.Close()
If lstBlob.Items.Count > 0 Then
lstBlob.SelectedIndex = 0
End If
End Sub
Objects in .net that show you a .Dispose method should be disposed. They have unmanaged code and need to properly release things. Connections, Commands, Streams, and Readers fall into this group. Luckily .net has provided Using...End Using blocks that handle this for us even if there is an error. For this reason, these objects should be kept local to the methods where they are used.
As much as possible, methods should perform a single task. I pulled out the code to create the byte array to a separate Function. I also split the data access code from the user interace code. You may want to put the data access code in a separate class. This would come in handy if you want to change to a web app, for example.
In the data access code:
You can pass the connection string directly to the constructor of the connection. Likewise, pass the CommandText and Connection directly to the constructor of the command. The .Add method of the .Parameters collection will create a new parameter from the name and datatype passed to it. You can also set the value on the same line.

I'm setting up email alert using SSIS script task. The code works when CC field is only one email but gets an
"Error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation."
for multiple emails.
This pulls data from a view in SQL database. I tried the code with just a single email and it worked but gets an error for multiple emails in CC field. I tried adding "" on the CC column but still don't work.
"xxx#company.com,yyy#company.com"
xxx#company.com,yyy#company.com

Can any one tell me what is wrong in my code or any other way to compare system time with database time.
thanks in advance.
I'm building an application that can communicate and send commands to game servers. In the gaming world we call this “rcon” for remote console, but in reality it's just a telnet session. After successful authentication, a text command can be issued to the server and a text response is sent back to the client.
Often times server admins/owners run multiple game servers and every server has its own distinct ip address, port & password. I would like my application to loop through a list/array/datatable/dictionary (or whatever method is best ) of servers, connect and authenticate to each server, then somehow store that connection so commands can be sent to it in the future (Without having to connect & authenticate again)
Below is the code I have that works for a single server. I store the TcpClient(client) & NetworkStream(stm) as global objects which keeps the connection/session open to the server. What is the best method for me to do this with multiple servers since each server will have it's own TcpClient & NetworkStream?
Is there some way for me to store each TcpClient(client) & NetworkStream(stm) in an array, dictionary or something? I'm completely lost with how to approach this.

BTW This is my first post on stackoverflow, but I have learned so much from this site over the years =)
I have to code a WPF application for college which reads from a csv file. I get a null reference exception when I want to output the parts of the CSV lines into arrays. You can find the line where the error happens in commentary. Here is the code.
Imports System.Windows.Forms
Imports System.IO
Imports System.Globalization
Class MainWindow
Private foldername As String
Private arrGemeenten As String()
Private arrOppervlakte As Double()
Private arrInwoners As Integer()
Private arrDeelgemeenten As Integer()
Private Sub cboProvincie_SelectionChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Controls.SelectionChangedEventArgs) Handles cboProvincie.SelectionChanged
CSVInlezen()
End Sub
Private Sub MainWindow_Loaded(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles Me.Loaded
FileBrowserAanmaken()
comboBoxVullen()
End Sub
Private Sub comboBoxVullen()
For Each file As String In IO.Directory.GetFiles(foldername)
If file.EndsWith(".csv") Then
Dim filenaam As String = System.IO.Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(file)
cboProvincie.Items.Add(filenaam)
End If
Next
End Sub
Private Sub FileBrowserAanmaken()
'folderbrowserdialog aanmaken
Dim fbd As New FolderBrowserDialog
fbd.SelectedPath = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory
' Show the FolderBrowserDialog.
Dim result As DialogResult = fbd.ShowDialog()
If (result = Forms.DialogResult.OK) Then
foldername = fbd.SelectedPath
End If
End Sub
Private Sub CSVInlezen()
Dim filepath As String = foldername & "\" & cboProvincie.SelectedValue & ".csv"
If File.Exists(filepath) Then
fileInlezenHulpMethode(filepath)
End If
End Sub
Private Sub fileInlezenHulpMethode(ByVal path As String)
'declarations
Dim sr As New StreamReader(path)
Dim iTeller As Integer = 0
Dim arrLijn As String()
Dim culture As New System.Globalization.CultureInfo("nl-BE")
'eerste lijn meteen uitlezen, dit zijn kolomkoppen en hebben we niet nodig
'read out first line, these are titles and we don't need them
sr.ReadLine()
Do While sr.Peek <> -1
Dim lijn As String = sr.ReadLine()
arrLijn = lijn.Split(";")
arrGemeenten(iTeller) = Convert.ToString(arrLijn(0)) 'HERE I GET THE ERROR!
arrOppervlakte(iTeller) = Double.Parse(arrLijn(2), NumberStyles.AllowDecimalPoint, culture.NumberFormat)
arrInwoners(iTeller) = Integer.Parse(arrLijn(3), NumberStyles.Integer Or NumberStyles.AllowThousands, culture.NumberFormat)
arrDeelgemeenten(iTeller) = Convert.ToString(arrLijn(4))
Loop
End Sub
End Class
You haven't created the array, you have only created a reference for it. To create the array you need to specify a size, for example:
Private arrGemeenten As String(100)
However, to specify the size, you need to know the size when you create the array. (Well, actually you put all data in the first item, so just the size 1 would keep it from crashing, but I don't thing that's what you intended.) You probably want to use lists instead:
Private gemeenten As New List(Of String)()
Then you use the Add method to add items to the list:
gemeenten.Add(Convert.ToString(arrLijn(0)))
Also, consider putting the data in a single list of a custom object, instead of having several lists of loosely coupled data.
