Clearcase adding new directories files does order matter? - clearcase

I have a huge chunk of code (directory -> sub directiories -> files everywhere) to be added to Clearcase in Windows.
I used the command 'clearfsimport -rec -nset sourcepath destinationpath' command to add them to clearcase.
I was able to successfully add it to source control but when I try to deliver it I get error saying element not visible in integration view. So does order of adding new files matters in ClearCase?
Below is the error message from ClearCase while delivering:
Operation started: 22-04-2015 16:13:14 Element "D:\Workspace\auto_int\ROOT\Automation##\main\auto\1\LDSCluster\main\auto\1\SSI\main\auto\2\Service
References" is not visible in view "auto_int".
Skipping element
"D:\Workspace\auto_int\ROOT\Automation##\main\auto\1\LDSCluster\main\auto\1\SSI\main\auto\2\Service
References". *** IMPORTANT *** Before completing this deliver or
rebase operation, you should understand why this element is not visible.
If this element should be visible, cancel this operation,
fix the problem, and re-run the operation.

So does order of adding new files matters in clearcase?
No it does not matter.
But check if the clearfsimport has left folders/files checked out.
Because they won't be visible by any "deliver" operation until they have been checked in.

There could be several reasons for the issue as responded by folks. But the one I had is my integration view config spec doesn't load rules that captures the scope of newly added directory levels. After adding the required load rules I am able to deliver it. Thanks everyone.
(But in development view too that load rules wasn't there earlier but as I add new files it appended rules dynamically which didn't happened in case of integration view.)

Receiving error in UCM ClearCase while trying to check in an element

When I am trying to check in a file in ClearCase, I receive an error:
cleartool> ci -nc 1234.txt
cleartool: Error: Branch not consistent with stream attached to current view.
cleartool: Error: Unable to check in "1234.txt".
Does anyone know what's causing this? It started happening this morning.
So far, I have synchronized the stream and the view with no luck. Please help.
If so, what activity? - tied to a CC activity that is associated to an old stream, CQ activity is tied correctly
That means it is an UCM project with CQ integration.
When I look under version tree of this element, the element checkout is under a branch that is different from the stream the checkout was initiated from??? How can that happen?
That can only happen if the view used for the checkout had a different config spec than the one generated from the UCM stream. It is best to undo that checkout, and start again in the proper view.
Well, all I can do is add questions:
How old is the checkout?
Is it on a NON-UCM branch?
If so, when was the component added to the stream's configuration?
If you describe the version, is it associated with an activity? If so, what activity?
Has anything else "odd" happened to the view of late? (restored view from backup, etc.?)
What you're probably going to need to do is do a ct unco -keep. This will undo the checkout and make the view look at the version selected by the current stream configuration. Then
Set an activity
Check out the file again
Verify that the version created is on the current stream's branch
Copy the .keep file to the checked out file
Check it in.
As I see it, just create another new view on required Stream and copy the file into it.

How find deleted or removed file under clearcase

I need to modify a Simulink project stored under clearcase. From this project I must generate the C code, but this not the problem. The problem is that all generated files (*.c and other) are saved into clearcase and the code generation delete some file without overwrite the old version with new. Fortunately seems only for files different from *.C but in any case under clearcase (I use a windows client) I found in correspondence of deleted file:
the file name
three colored question marks
I think that clearcase has the information regarding the file stored but is not able to allocate this.
Now I need a command/script for CC which help me to found ALL removed files from the view because the project structure is very complex and a manually search is hard.
Thanks for any suggestion
"three colored question" marks means "checked out but removed", as in this example (you can recover from it by reloading the snapshot view)
If an automatic process is generating or deleting files in a snapshot view (it wouldn't be able to do the same in a dynamic view), then you should end up with a bunch of hijacked files (as identified in a snapshot view).
You could check them out and check them in.
For the files that need to be deleted, you can follow "What's the “proper” way to delete files from a ClearCase snapshot?".
But both process are manual and doesn't scale well.
There are two viable options:
1/ Don't version what is generated (you can re-generate it at any time)
2/ If you must version what is generated, then:
generate it outside of the snapshot view
use clearfsimport to import the result of that generation into the snapshot view: that will checkout the right files and will delete the files that are no longer generated.
That would be the right solution for "w I need a command/script for CC which help me to found ALL removed files"

How to debug the error "The requested property 'current-activity' is not available"?

My Project is using IBM ClearCase as version control tool. I recently checked in some of the files, modified them and even checked out the modified files.
Next day when I try to check in some of the files, I am getting the following error :
the property is not available locally: stream
and
the property is not available locally: current-activity
Is there any way to resolve this error? I am stuck
I recently checked in some of the files, modified them and even checked out the modified files.
You actually checked out files, then modify them, then check them in.
You check out in order to make a file modifiable.
the property is not available locally: current-activity
The exact error message is actually:
The requested property 'current-activity' is not available
See this IBM technote:
Cause
The information within the .Rational folder had become stale or corrupted.
ClearQuest database connections require refreshing as they are no longer seen.
View tag (as stored in the registry server) is no longer visible on the Change Management (CM) Server when performing an Cleartool lsview.
This issue can also occur if the region used does not hold the right VOBs any longer. While trying to create new Views or change load rules the VOBs are missing. This happened due to a changed region map file.
So it depends on your OS, version of ClearCase, integration or not with clearquest.

How do I stop the remote client showing all folders even unloaded ones?

I am using Clearteam Explorer 8. I recently was browsing a project folder which contained a symbolic link. Explorer said that I would need to enable something in order to follow the link. I said ok.
Now it insists on showing me every possible folder in all of my views including unloaded ones. The folders have no contents, but it makes all views really hard to navigate as there is a lot of chaff in the view's tree.
I cannot find where this option is set/unset because I set it in response to a one-time prompt. Does anyone know how to turn this off and have it only show me loaded folders?
Check in the Load Rules tab of the "Edit Configuration" dialog box, for Web views only, if you have the option "Show Obsolete Directories and Files" selected.
Un-selecting this option might help.
If you can edit the config spec of your view, you can add cleaning rules, like:
element /avob/* -none
If you placed it just before the last one (element * /main/LATEST), that would hep ClearCase to not select at all any element which wasn't already selected before by the config spec selection rules.
I had the same problem and I solved it by:
Removing the parameter ccvtreeviewer.fetchFullTree=true from file com.ibm.rational.clearcase.prefs. On my machine, this file is located in folder: C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\.Rational\CTE8\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings\com.ibm.rational.clearcase.prefs
Editing the file com.ibm.rational.team.client.ui.model.prefs and update theses parameters:
appliedTreeRules_0=com.ibm.rational.clearcase.ui.actions.ShowLoadedVobsAction|Public and Private VOBs|true|true|true|System;
nonappliedTreeRules_0=com.ibm.rational.clearcase.ui.actions.ShowUnloadedVobsAction|Unloaded VOBs|true|false|false|System;com.ibm.rational.clearcase.ui.actions.ShowUnloadedElementsAction|Unloaded Elements|true|false|false|System;com.ibm.rational.clearcase.ui.actions.ShowLoadedPrivateVobsAction|Private VOBs only|true|true|false|System;com.ibm.rational.clearcase.ui.actions.ShowLoadedPublicVobsAction|Public VOBs only|true|true|false|System;com.ibm.rational.clearcase.ui.actions.ShowUnmountedVobsAction|Unmounted VOBs|true|false|false|System;

Forcing a view in clearcase to equal parent stream

I have a clearcase view which I have not updated in quite some time. It has some view private files and I am sure a lot of other things as well. Is there anyway I can delete all the content of the view and force clearcase to give me everything again?
When i try to build the project from my view (After a rebase) I get a lot of build errors, but if I build the project from the actual stream, I get no build errors at all, so I am guessing my view is a bit messed up, and as I have no files I need to keep there, i would very much like to just reset it.
EDIT:
I am using a snapshot view
First of all, you need to make sure that that your config spec reflect the config of your UCM Stream.
If we are talking about a snapshot view, simply delete everything in it (except the hidden view.dat file), and type (at the root directory of your snapshot view):
cleartool setcs -stream
That will force the view to:
rewrite its config spec in accordance with its associated Stream
launch an update of your snapshot view.
