Which one should be used in React, l10n or i18n? - reactjs

I have a webpage in React and I wanted to use l10n (localization) but only find information about i18n (internationalization), so I don't know if l10n exists for React or if I'm forced to use i18n.

l10n stands for localization and i18n stands for internationalization.
Localization is the process of guaranteeing your resources are focused on the requirements of one specific audience.
The use of it is about adapting your entire content so that it meets the norms and expectations of a specific location or market.
To know more about localization, have a look at this blog post.
The internationalization process covers the design and development. So basically it is the task of instrumentalization (adaption) of your software code to be ready to be localized (not only translated) for other languages, regions and cultures. Think about ltr or rtl, currencies, date formats, etc...
Usually an i18n framework is used to help with this tasks.
Since you're talking about React.js, you may have a look at this step by step guide for react-i18next.
To know more about internationalization, have a look at this blog post.
There is also globalization, for that have a look at this.
So tldr; There's a lot to think about when internationalizing a webpage.

How to create a living style guide with your own UI

I have created an website/application using Angular2. The infrastructure is all set, I have routing completed, sass being processed etc.
I have sections (components) on this website that will display current web standards for our designs (buttons, forms, copy). The purpose of this site is to give our developers a copy/paste solution for markup and sass.
We will most likely create our own css library but they will still need a good visual reference of what each class does and a copy/paste solution.
I know how to develop all the standards, what I don't know how to do is have the DOM display options for the user to copy/paste the code. I could manually enter the code into or tags but this will be hard to maintain and not very clean approach. I'd like to find some solution that will utilize my code and create these tags at run time.
Googling this question leads down the road of using living style guide generators, which i don't want to use... why? I like having the functionality of controlling my own layout and scaling my standards as I see fit with our own technology.
Any ideas?
After exploring this even further I ended circling yet again on documentation tools (KSS) where I would need to rebuild my entire style guide for this functionality using markdown and or JDOCs.
Solution!
Use CodePen, its free to signup however there are some nice to have features for a monthly fee. I easily created my code here using SASS, HTML and CSS libraries. CodePen has a great EMBED feature whereas I could copy/paste html or iframe right to my styleguide.
Problem is now solved, and we have have a dynamic Web & UI Styleguide.
Hope this method helps others in my situation.

how to add multiple languages to an English website

I am trying to add two additional languages to my website - Chinese, Japanese. User inputs could be in native language, in English or be mixed. E.g. search by product name. Likewise output can be all-English or be in mixed languages, depending on a user's preferences. I already have applicable translations so that is not a problem. It is a data intensive site. It uses web APIs to fetch JSON data objects, and uses angular and backbone, and jquery.
I will appreciate if you possibly refer me to some good books or pages that provide guidance for building multilingual sites. Are there any particular web standards that must be followed by websites and by browsers?
Googling yields a ton of links, but the discussion appears centered around specific packages such as wordpress, joomla, .net, drupal, etc. and appears more around automated translations. It still left me confused about the basics requirements of multilingual sites as I do not use any of these packages.
Thanks a lot.
ps: if you need to leave me a -1, np. But I would very much appreciate a comment as to why - so that it doesn't appear as if you just vented and offered me no opportunity for improvement.
Wells... when i need to build a bilingual website i just use a language selector menu and build the whole website in 2 languages (i think this way its more professional) cause usually translators doesnt 100% translate correctly and at the end you just get a bunch of stuff making no sense.
Maybe you could use Google Website Translator gadget for what you trying to do?? its paid service tho, you could use also the plugin for Wordpress http://wordpress.org/plugins/google-language-translator/
Or use the Google Ajax Language API https://code.google.com/p/jquery-translate/

Joomla or cakePHP for designing application without limitation?

I've only touched the top of the iceberg of Joomla and cakePHP. There is so much to learn. But on top of learning I want to build something useful as well.
Joomla is the easiest to set up and is very agile if I wanted to get things up and running with concepts that are already in use out there. That is, I can install different components and extensions that are developed by other uses. The problem here is that I'm limited to other people's imagination and vision. What if I wanted something specific and no components or extension meets my needs, I would need to build my own. Which brings me to the question: -
Should I learn how to develop custom components/extensions in Joomla, or learn cakePHP to truly be capable of engineering my own application to suit all my needs?
Here is the application that I want to build through my learning - an integration of all of the below component each able to interact with one another:
A blog
A forum
A user participating recipe book
User calendar
Image gallery
Yes there is alot that I want to do, but it's all in the name of learning. I really want to be able to have an application which has an integration of all the above components which works smoothly together. For example, when a user submits a recipe or a blog this is written to their Calendar. Another example, user will be able to share their recipe/image gallery within their blog, without the reader having to navigate away. Another example, images can be tagged with recipe or ingredients of the recipe.
I'm starting on a clean slate, so I'm really looking for some opinion on which one I should stick to to achieve what I want to do. And which one will have a steeper learning curve?
For a forum, you could use Kunena.
Image Gallery, Blog and User Calendar should be easy enough to find.
As for the Recipe Book, if you are willing to purchase an extension then the ZOO app by Yootheme might be an idea, or you could allow users to submit standard Joomla articles and use a comments component such as JComment

Translate Front-End Site Interface in Drupal 7

I am working on a multi-lingual website in Drupal 7. I installed the i18n module to translate the content on the website. However, I also have other site interface elements on the front-end part of the website like button texts, navigation links, etc that I would like to translate.
Is it really necessary to develop different themes per language? Or is there a more elegant solution to do this?
Thanks!
"Is it really necessary to develop different themes per language?"
No, it isn't. Every visual text can be translated, via the Translate interface-entry in the admin menu. If you write your own modules, templates and stuff, use the t-function to make the terms available in Translate interface or write your own po-files.
There is one issue of course: if the length of the terms in language A is too different to language B you can get in trouble with your layout. So test everything in depth and load different css styles if necessary.

CakePHP: Internationalizing a web application - Design and Examples?

I have a web application built using CakePHP framework and now I am in the process of internationalizing it. I started with the base set-up as outlined in the below article -
http://puskin.in/blog/2010/08/cakephp-manage-multiple-language-in-application/
and also add little bit of customization based on my previous question -
CakePHP: Internationalizing Web Application
To completely internationalize my web app, I would need to translate my drop-down/look-up content as well, like - categories, favorites, countries, bucket list etc.
What is the best way to design my tables and CakePHP samples? Can someone explain with a simple example and classes? Links or articles?
Lets say we have something like -
A user can create multiple posts, and each post has a category [science article, match article] etc in the drop-down and same we need to internationalize drop-down as well.
Two hints:
Read the manual of cakephp.
Look into the code of a available application (maybe croogo)
My open source project is translated.
It call CandyCane. A port of Redmine into CakePHP.
I also imported translation files from Redmine, so CandyCane supports numbers of languages from the beginning.
