I performed a select on a large table it gave this error
When executing a smaller table the SQL Management did a select normally

How to fix this?

I have access to an Oracle database and I need to bring its data into SQL Server. The table has a simple structure and I can't change anything on the Oracle side.
I created a linked server inside SQL Server but I can't select the table because of this error :
The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server supplied inconsistent metadata for a column. The column (compile-time ordinal 1) of object was reported to have a "DBCOLUMNFLAGS_ISFIXEDLENGTH" of 16 at compile time and 0 at run time
The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server supplied inconsistent metadata for a column. The column (compile-time ordinal 1) of object was reported to have a "DBCOLUMNFLAGS_ISFIXEDLENGTH" of 16 at compile time and 0 at run time
I checked and it seems to be a general problem and Oracle suggested using OPENQUERY to get data from these tables.
When I use OPENQUERY the IMAGE ( 'BFILE' ) column is null but I can see in SQL Developer that it is not null.
When I use SSIS, I get this error:
ADO NET Source [33]] Error: The error "ORA-00972: identifier is too long occurred while processing "ADO NET Source.Outputs[ADO NET Source Output].Columns[IMAGE]
Any ideas on how to move a table with an IMAGE (BFILE) column from Oracle database to SQL Server?
I have an Integration Server where I have defined linked servers of my sources (SQL Server database) and target database (Azure SQL DW). I have conditions where if the table does not exist I will use a SELECT INTO, then use an INSERT INTO when the table already exists.
My code is as follows:
SELECT *
INTO [tgt_svr].[tgt_db].[tgt_sch].[tgt_tbl]
FROM [tgt_svr].[tgt_db].[tgt_sch].[tgt_tbl];
INSERT INTO [tgt_svr].[tgt_db].[tgt_sch].[tgt_tbl]
SELECT *
FROM [tgt_svr].[tgt_db].[tgt_sch].[tgt_tbl];
However when I execute I get this error
... contains more than the maximum number of prefixes. The maximum is 2.
Appreciate any help how to resolve this and achieve my result to have this processing server extract from source server and load to target server.
Thank you!
I have a database in SQL Server 2012 as:
now can you please let me know how I can I see the actual data stored in the dbo.UserAccount table without running expicitly a SQL command like SELECT * FROM dbo.UserAccount ?
I tried by clicking on the table node but this just expand the collapse columns nodes.
You need to run SELECT ... FROM .... T-SQL is the only API to access SQL Server. You may learn that you can right click a table in SSMS and select 'view top 1000 rows' but that is really just opening a query and running a SELECT.
I'm using Crystal Reports 2008 with SQL Server 2014.
I read on the internet that it was possible to create a temporary table with Crystal Reports. This link says that, one of many examples -> Click here
Yet when I go to the database expert, create a new command and enter the following DDL
CREATE TABLE #temp_test (col1 VARCHAR(5))
I get this error
Translation:
database connector error : 'No error message from server'
Yet, when I'm doing that with SQL Server on my database, everything is fine.
Have you managed to do it? If yes, how?
It sounds like an urban legend to me but I might be wrong...
Cheers
When you create a "Command" table in Crystal, you're giving Crystal a set of text to send to the SQL server, and Crystal expects a data set in return. Everything in between is done on the SQL server. Crystal checks the command by sending it to the SQL server when you enter it to see if it works.
Given that, your temp table is actually created on the SQL server. Also, when you create a temp table, it is deleted after the command is finished running.
As a result, if you use only this code, the SQL server will create the table, but there is no data set to return. It succeeds, so doesn't return an error, but also doesn't return data, hence the message: "No error message from server".
For your next step, I would suggest using code like this:
CREATE TABLE #temp_test (col1 VARCHAR(5))
SELECT * FROM #temp_test
This will create an empty data set to return to Crystal, so that it's getting the response it needs. I say this so that you don't think anything is wrong when you don't see anything. You'll need to insert data into the temp table in order to get it from the select statement for visual confirmation.
I would also suggest that you don't use a temp table unless you determine that you do or will actually need one within the scope of the command. For example, you may need one to increase performance on a particularly complex query or CTE, so it might increase performance to use a temp table. But I would create that query first and worry about optimization after I have at least some of it developed.
I am want to make the following statement:
INSERT INTO [Server_1\Instance_1].[Database].[dse].Table1
SELECT * FROM [Server_2\Instance_2].[Database].[dse].[**Table1**]
The point is the tables are on the different servers. I tried with the statement above. However, when I am on server_1 and when I run the following statement in order to retrieve the data from server 2:
SELECT * FROM [Server_2\Instance_2].[Database].[dse].[**Table1**]
... I get zero rows.
But when I run the statement above on the Server_2, I get a set of rows.
How can I transfer data from production to development server/environments?
I am using MS Management Studio.
UPDATE:
The error message I am getting when I run the select statement in order to retrieve the data from another (production) server:
The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "Prod_Server\Instance" does not contain the table ""Database"."dse"."BoxIteration"". The table either does not exist or the current user does not have permissions on that table.
Select statement is:
SELECT * FROM [Prod_Server\Instance].[Database].[dse].[BoxIteration]
Two things to take into account:
add the source server as a linked server in the destination server
verify that the credentials specified while creating the linked server have access to the data in the source server
I have a localized version of SQL Server, so the transalation may not match what you will see in your screen: open Object Explorer window in SSMS, connect to the destination server, open the tree and look for Server Objects, Linked Servers. Right click on the source linked server, and see the properties. Open the Security pane, and see which credentials are used to connect to the linked server.
Once you do so, you have to check the permissions of that credentials on the source server to verify that it can acccess the table in question.
If you don't understand, or can't do some of the steps (for lack of permissions), get help form your DBA: he will understand and solve the problem at once.
If u have access(Having credentials) to both prod and dev Db servers you can use "Import and Export Data"
1.Go to start and open "Import and Export Data"
Wizard will open give source server name, credentials and Database(For your case Prod)
Then give destination server name, credentials and Database(Dev)
Select the table , if there any identity column -->"Edit Mapping" and Enable identity insert.
Then give next--> it will start copying.
