I have ms sql server .backpack file from my cloud provider1 and can successfully import it to my local server to new db via databases -> Import Data-tier Application. OK, file is correct.
When i try to import this file to another remote sql server (my cloud provider2) to existing database i've got an error:
The database 'abc1234567' already exists on the target instance of SQL
Server. Specify a database name that does not already exist.
Both my providers have special webpanel to create database, so i can't specify non-existing database. :(
Neither SSMS, not SqlPackage.exe Import allow me to use existing database. :(
Is there any way to import this backpack to existing database? (Maybe, 3rd party tools?)
Configuration:
Provider1 has Server 2008 R2 RTM (db compability level = 100)
Provider2 has Microsoft SQL Server 2016
My local SSMS is from MS SQL 2017
The only way i see is restore to local db, allow xp_cmdshell then use bcp.exe in out
I get the message below when attempting to import my database from SQL Azure. I believe this is following the upgrade to V12.
I have just installed SQL Server 2014 SP1 but it doesn't appear to have solved the issue. Current version of SQL Server Management Studio is:
12.0.4100.1
Any help most appreciated!!

I had SQL Server 2005 installed on my system. Then I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 also.
Now when I open SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio I get two messages.
(1) You can import customized user settings from SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. Be aware that some default settings might be changed after you import your customized user settings. Do you want to import your customized user settings from SQL Server 2005 Management Studio
(2)There are SQL Server 2005 Management Studio registered services on this system. Do you want to add them into Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio? Adding The Server registration information has no effect on the servers themselves.
What I should answer to this messages? Yes or No? Please help. I am trying to install Sharepoint Server 2013 Server on my system. But there is an error when I ran Products configuration wizard.
Failed to create sample data. An exception of type
System.Null.Reference Exception was thrown.
Does the error in SQL server Management Studio have anything to do with this error?
1st Sql is warning you that you have prev users that are created in the old sql server 2005 instance.
And asking you if you wish to migrate those users to the new sql 2008 instance.
if you would like to login with the same users that you used to use in the old sql then press yes other wise neglect the dialog and create your new users in the new sql server.
I'm attempting to import a database to my local SQL Server 2012 instance from SQL Azure using the "Import Data-Tier Application" wizard.
I simply exported the database to blob storage, then downloaded the file and then selected to import the database.
This fails each time with the error message below:
The error is occurring because it seems to want to create a DEFAULT constraint twice. Has anyone else had this issue?
I got the same error and solved it by installing the preview version of SQL 2016 SQL Management Studio.
I have installed SQL Server Management Studio Express and trying to import my access tables to SQL database. In the blogs I have read I can do it from Tasks>>>>Import Data BUt my Tasks menu does not contain any Import Data. It only contains
Detach, Shrink, Backup, Restore, Generate Scripts.
What is the problem with my Server Management Studio Express
What shall I do to import data?
Thanks
Furqan
I've never used the Express version, so I may not be able to help you. However, if you're not seeing the Import option from the tasks menu, per this site, you can either
Export from MS Access
Download the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=65111
Run "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Binn\DTSWizard.exe"
NOTE: As a side note, the forum referenced above was for SQL Express 2005 (hence the path containing version 90)
If you create a new blank database and then right click on the database you should have "Tasks" > Import Data.
According to this thread, SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 does not offer the Import/Export option at all, but Microsoft added that feature in the 2008 version.
You can use sql management studio for this purpose install over on your current express version and you can import export then.
