I'm currently programming a shell in C and I am stuck on the parsing function.
At the moment I have a 'shell_readLine ()' function and a 'shell_split_line ()' function.
I would like to improve the splitLine function so that it takes into account redirects such as: '|', '<' or '>'. Currently, only spaces serve as delimiters. I do not know where to start.

Warnings and segmentation fault core dumped

This is a program to remove particular lines in a file. It copies the lines which are needed and prints it in another file in the same directory. I'm not getting any errors except for warnings such as incompatible pointer type [-Wincompatible-pointer-types]. When I run the code I also get the prtintf statement but when entered input Segmentation fault (core dumped). Is it related to the warnings or is it something else ?

You use char *buf[], which means buf is an array of pointers to char, not a pointer to char. Use char* buf instead. Same goes for name.

Why does this code keep giving me a Segfault Error when i run it in Linux?

So I'm trying to create a function that takes in a text file, which contains a bunch of words separated by the newline character, and reads the text file into a char** array.
When I run this code in netbeans on windows, it works fine but if I run it in Linux, I get a segmentation fault error.

What am I missing here?
There are some problems in your program that may cause the undefined behavior that you observe:
You do not test if the file was open successfully, causing undefined behavior if the file is not where you expect it or has a different name.
You do not limit the number of lines read into the array, causing undefined behavior if the file contains more than 99998 lines, which may be be the case in linux as /usr/share/dict/words has 139716 lines on my system, for example.
Your memory allocation scheme is suboptimal but correct: you should compute the length of the word and strip the newline before allocating the copy. As coded, you allocate too much memory. Yet you should free line before returning from read_to_array and you should avoid using global variables.

Segmentation faulting in assignment

I'm currently learning C and I came from java. Our assignment asked us to count strings from either a file that could be added or it asks for the user to input a string. We just started using pointers and i looked up the different reasons why segmentation faults happened but I have no idea how to check for which issue it is. I initialized all my pointers to NULL but it still didn't work and from what i read that was the most common reason why a segmentation fault happens.

Their are some issues in your code:
You initialized string to NULL, then used it as an input buffer for fgets(). fgets() reqiures a pointer to an array of chars, either declared on the stack or dynamically allocated with malloc(3). You can set an input buffer such as char string[100].
fgets() must be checked, as it returns NULL when unable to read a line.
Your delimiter for strtok() is not accounting for the \n character appended by fgets(). You can either remove this newline, or include it in the delimter. If you want to include it in the delimeter, make sure your delimiter is " ,.-\n".
You could create function which parses your input with strtok(), as this would allow your main() to be shorter and reduce the repetitiveness in the code. An example function prototype could be void longest_shortest_words(char line[], char **longest, char **shortest, size_t *word_count);, whereby you pass the longest, shortest words along with the number of words back to main() via pointers. You could also just store the longest and shortest words in a 2D array or array of pointers.
You should also explicitly check that your file was opened correctly. Something like this should be included:

When checking opt, checking ? as a character in your switch statement is not right. Instead of:

Read tab delimited file to Structure in C

I have a file with tab delimited data. I want to read the every line into a Structure. I have a code to read the data to char buffer. But I want to load the data into a Structure.

Here I want to load the content to a structure variable instead of the character buffer. How I can achieve that?
Well, a possible solution could be
Read a complete line from the file using fgets().
tokenize the input buffer based on the required delimiter [tab in your case] using strtok().
allocate memory (malloc()/ realloc()) to a pointer variable of your structure.
copy the tokenized inputs into the member variables.
Note:
1. fgets() reads and stores the trailing \n.
2. Please check carefully how to use strtok(). The input string should be mutable.
3. Allocate memory to pointers before using them. IMO, use statically allocated array as struct employee member variables.
You can use the fscanf function. Open a file as a stream then use the fscanf to get a input from the file.

Or else you can use the strtok function. That time you have to use the sscanf function.
You can use fscanf to read each line from file, strtok to tokenize the line read.
Since your structure members are pointers, allocate memory appropriately.

Few things to Note here:
This is guaranteed to work, as long as your structure definition (and order of members) remains the same (see manipulation of value i).
strtok(line, "\\");, Second argument is just escaping (first \) the actual \ character.
Clarification from the OP:
In your structure definition, third member is an int, however you're trying to read t35 into it (which is a string).
So var.age = atoi(ptr); will give you 0,
You could change the structure definition, making third member as char * and allocating memory like other members.
Or change file contents, making sure an int is present as the third value.

Doing a homework and I'm having problems with, what I believe, pointers.
The assignment consists in the following:
I have a txt file where each line as a name and a password.
thisismyname:thisismypassword
I have to read this data, process it into struct linked list, run all the list and send the password to a brute-force algorithm. This algorithm, after finding the pass, should write the pass on the struct. In the end, I should run the list and write the data to a txt file
My problem is when I find the password. It is not storing its value in the struct. At the end I can read the data, I can see that the brute-force is working but at the end, I'm only managing to write the name and pass to file. The unencrypted pass is being written as NULL so I believe is a pointer problem.

I believe that the changes being made in fmaps are local and are not passing to main.

This is how you could code the file reader/parser. It avoids str[n]cpy(), and does all string operations using memcpy() + the offsets + sizes. (which need to be correct in both cases, obviously)
