import React, { Component, useState } from 'react'
class input extends Component {

How to use those jsx for media query(desktop and mobile version)
I need to know how to use sample.js(not css).
How to use jsx part in render for mobile version.
In desktop version I have to display both message Hello world and how are you?.
In mobile version I have to use hide and show.
You can have a look at this npm package called react-responsive: https://www.npmjs.com/package/react-responsive
It will allow you to do stuff like this :
import React from 'react'
import { useMediaQuery } from 'react-responsive'
const Example = () => {
const isTabletOrMobile = useMediaQuery({ query: '(max-width: 1224px)' })
return (
<div>
<h1>Device Test!</h1>
{isTabletOrMobile ? <p>You are on a tablet or a mobile p</p> : <p>You're on desktop</p>}
</div>
)
}

I am new to React and am trying to build a video player page. Currently I have a super basic page in mind — I'd like to have one button that, when clicked, renders a YouTube video.
I've followed a resource that uses the npm react-player package so that I can just embed a Youtube Player as follows:
function YouTubePlayer () {
return (
<div>
<ReactPlayer
url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug50zmP9I7s"
/>
</div>
)
}
export default YouTubePlayer
However, instead of having the video display on the page as soon as it loads, I want it to only load when the button is clicked. I created a button and an event handler like this:
import { Component } from 'react';
import ReactPlayer from 'react-player';
class YouTubePlayer extends Component {
constructor(props) {
super(props);
}
handleYouTubeClick = () => {
return (
<div>
<ReactPlayer url="https://youtu.be/OXHCt8Ym9gw"/>
</div>
);
}
render() {
return (
<div>
<p>Video Player</p>
<button onClick={this.handleYouTubeClick}>YouTube</button>
</div>
);
}
export default YouTubePlayer
but no video gets rendered. Do I have to do something with states? I do not know how I would go about doing so. Again, I am very new to React, so please let me know if I am approaching this completely wrong. Thanks.
import { Component } from "react";
import ReactPlayer from "react-player";
class YouTubePlayer extends Component {
constructor(props) {
super(props);
this.state = {
isClicked: false
};
}
handleYouTubeClick = () => {
this.setState({
isClicked: true
});
};
render() {
return (
<div>
<p>Video Player</p>
<button onClick={this.handleYouTubeClick}>Youtube</button>
{this.state.isClicked && (
<div>
<ReactPlayer url="https://youtu.be/OXHCt8Ym9gw" />
</div>
)}
</div>
);
}
}
export default YouTubePlayer;
Here is the code to solve your problem.
class YouTubePlayer extends Component {
state = {
showYoutube: false,
}
ShowPlayer = () => {
if(this.state.showYoutube) {
return (
<div>
<ReactPlayer url="https://youtu.be/OXHCt8Ym9gw"/>
</div>
);
}
}
handleYouTubeClick = () => {
this.setState({
showYoutube: true,
})
}
render() {
return (
<div>
<p>Video Player</p>
<this.ShowPlayer />
<button onClick={this.handleYouTubeClick}>Youtube</button>
</div>
);
}
}
I hope this will help you.
Thanks
I have a component where a list of pictures is rendered and it works perfectly fine :
import { Component} from 'react'
import Header from '../Home/Header'
import Footer from '../Home/Footer'
import PhotoItems from './objet'
class Photos1930 extends Component {
render() {
return (
<div>
<Header />
<h2 className='titre bloc'>Photos 1930</h2>
<div className='bloc bloc__photo'>
{PhotoItems.map((val, key) => {
let id = val.id
let url = val.url
let lienImage = "/galerie/:" + (val.id)
return <div key={id}>
<a href={lienImage}>
<img className='photo' alt='Photo Charles-Quint' src={url}></img>
</a>
</div>
})}
</div>
<Footer />
</div>
)
}
}
export default Photos1930
I want to create an other component where i can load a specific picture when user click on a picture from the precedent list. I use the same logic but for some reason the picture doesn't load. I don't have any errors in my console but on my page i just have the standard icon for image with my alt.
All the pictures are on public folder.
I just don't understand why is it working on one component but not on the other one.
import { Component } from 'react'
import Header from '../Home/Header'
import Footer from '../Home/Footer'
import PhotoItems from './objet'
const url = window.location.pathname
const justId = parseInt((url.split(':')[1]))
function specificId(photo) {
return photo.id === (justId)
}
let justUrl = (PhotoItems.find(specificId).url)
console.log(justUrl)
class PickPhoto extends Component {
render() {
return (
<div>
<Header />
<div>
<h1>{justId}</h1>
<img className="bigPhoto" alt="Charles-Quint" src={justUrl}></img>
</div>
<Footer />
</div>
)
}
}
export default PickPhoto
EDIT1 : Here's my github repo : https://github.com/FranMori/CharlesQuint
and here's my netlify link : https://stoic-bohr-810e13.netlify.app/
You can click on "Galerie Photos" and then click on any picture to see the problem.
in your repo, this.justUrl is undefined. You need to add justUrl in the component's state and update it dynamically inside componentDidMount like below. I also added a / in src={/${this.state.justUrl}}
import { Component } from 'react'
import Header from '../Home/Header'
import Footer from '../Home/Footer'
import PhotoItems from './objet'
class PickPhoto extends Component {
constructor() {
super()
this.state = { justUrl: "" };
}
componentDidMount() {
const url = window.location.pathname
const justId = parseInt((url.split(':')[1]))
function specificId(photo) {
return photo.id === justId
}
let justUrl = (PhotoItems.find(specificId).url)
console.log(justUrl)
this.setState({justUrl})
}
render() {
return (
<div>
<Header />
<div>
<h1>{this.justId}</h1>
<img className="bigPhoto" alt="Charles-Quint" src={`/${this.state.justUrl}`}></img>
</div>
<Footer />
</div>
)
}
}
export default PickPhoto
I am writing a react application that outputs a list of books (image, title, category, and description).
My search bar and booklist are sibling components and the search bar will pass data to the booklist.
when clicking the search button, only "Sample Category" shows up but not anything else. There is no problem accessing the API and the data is not null.
Here is a sample API output: https://www.googleapis.com/books/v1/volumes?q=lordoftherings
My code is the following:
// App
import React, { Component } from 'react';
import Axios from 'axios';
import './App.css';
import SearchBar from './SearchBar';
import BookList from './BookList';
class App extends Component {
constructor(props) {
super(props);
this.state = {
books: []
};
this.search = this.search.bind(this);
}
search(title) {
const promise = Axios.get('https://www.googleapis.com/books/v1/volumes?q=' + title);
promise.then((response) => {
const books = response.data.items;
this.setState({ books: books });
console.log(this.state.books);
})
};
render() {
return (
<div className="App">
<SearchBar searchBooks = {this.search}/>
<BookList booklist = {this.state.books}/>
</div>
);
}
}
export default App;
// Search Bar
import React, { Component } from 'react';
import PropTypes from 'prop-types';
class SearchBar extends Component {
constructor(props) {
super(props);
this.state = { titleToSearch: 'harry potter' }
this.handleInputChange = this.handleInputChange.bind(this);
}
handleInputChange(e) {
this.setState({ titleToSearch: e.target.value });
};
render() {
return (
<form>
<input
type="text"
name="booksInput"
placeholder="Enter book title"
value={this.state.titleToSearch}
onChange={this.handleInputChange}
/>
<button type="button" onClick={() => this.props.searchBooks(this.state.titleToSearch)}>Search</button>
</form>
);
}
}
export default SearchBar;
// BookList
import React, { Component } from 'react';
class BookList extends Component {
render() {
const books = this.props.booklist;
return (
<div className="table">
{books.map((book) => {
console.log(book.id);
return (
<div className="box" key={book.id}>
<div className="img"><img src="assets/default-placeholder.jpg" alt="" /></div>
<div className="title">{book.title}</div>
<div className="category">Sample Category</div>
<div className="description">{book.description}</div>
</div>
);
})}
</div>
);
}
}
export default BookList;
In the sample code you provided, you're not actually dynamically outputting categories.
You've hard coded 'Sample category' in there.
book.category
...is not actually in the dataset.
There are categories which seem to be available under:
<div className="category">{book.volumeInfo.categories[0]}</div>
although you'll want to check if the array has length, and probably map or join each item in array to string.
just to be clear: the issue with your other fields is also that they're children of "volumeInfo"
I've been looking for about 2 hours into why I am not displaying any of the information to the page. I've console logged my response from a simple random quote api and it shows, Author: and Quote: in the console, however these are not appearing in my fields, All I am seeing is the button.
import React, { Component } from 'react';
import QuoteMachine from './Quotemachine';
const END_POINT = 'https://random-quote-
generator.herokuapp.com/api/quotes/random';
class App extends Component {
constructor(props) {
super(props);
this.state = {
quote: {
text: '',
author: ''
}
}
}
getQuote() {
fetch(END_POINT)
.then(response => response.json())
.then(response => {
this.setState = ({
quote: response
});
console.log(response);
})
}
componentDidMount() {
this.getQuote();
}
render() {
return (
<div className="App">
<div className="container">
<QuoteMachine quote= {this.state.quote} />
<button id="new-quote" className="primary-color-
background" onClick={() => this.getQuote()}>New quote</button>
</div>
</div>
);
}
}
export default App;
And then here is my Quotemachine.js
import React from 'react'
import PropTypes from 'prop-types';
const QuoteMachine = (props) => {
return (
<div className="quote-box">
<div className="text">
<span>{props.quote.text}</span>
</div>
<div className="author">
<span >{props.quote.author}</span>
</div>
</div>
);
};
QuoteMachine.propTypes = {
quote: PropTypes.object.isRequired
};
export default QuoteMachine;
It is only displaying the button, but the console.log shows
Object
author:
"Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895)"
quote:
"Try to learn something about everything and everything about something."

Install React Developer Tools plugin and check if your state is changing after the API call
I am building a component which is a gallery that consists of a main gallery image and a list of thumbnails under the main image. This component will be used across multiple pages so each page will have it own thumbnails/images. I have worked out how to get the correct images into the gallery depending on the page using redux and a store. However I cant figure out the functionality in getting the main image to change when the corresponding thumbnail is clicked, any ideas or suggestion how I could approach this?
import React, { Component } from 'react';
import { connect } from 'react-redux';
class Gallery extends Component {
render() {
let img = this.props.bouq.map((el, index) => {
return(
<img src={"/images/" + el + ".jpg"} alt="." key={index}/>
);
})
return(
<section className="gallery">
<div className="mainImage">
<img src='/images/bouquets.jpg' alt="."/>
</div>
<div className="thumbnails">
{img}
</div>
</section>
);
}
}
const mapStateToProps = state => {
return {
bouq: state.bouquets
};
}
export default connect(mapStateToProps)(Gallery);
You can leverage the access to every individual element inside the map, onClick on an element, you can update you mainImage in your redux store.
You'll also need to create an action that updates the mainImage (depending on how you manage your redux actions)
import React, { Component } from 'react'
import { connect } from 'react-redux'
import { updateMainImage } from './actions'
class Gallery extends Component {
updateMainImage = tumbnail => () => {
this.props.dispatch(updateMainImage(thumbnail))
}
render() {
const { mainImg, bouq } = this.props
return (
<section className="gallery">
<div className="mainImage">
<img src={`/images/${mainImage}.jpg`} alt={mainImage} />
</div>
<div className="thumbnails">
{bouq.map(thum => (
<img
key={thumb}
src={`/images/${thumb}.jpg`}
alt={thumb}
onClick={this.updateMainImage(thumb)}
/>
))}
</div>
</section>
)
}
}
const mapStateToProps = state => {
return {
bouq: state.bouquets,
mainImage: state.mainImage,
}
}
export default connect(mapStateToProps)(Gallery)
