I am doing my dissertation about brand recall. I created on spss a variable with the brands that the respondents recalled first (eg: 1 = "Facebook", 2="Instagram" and so on). I also created a variable with the brands that the respondents recalled in second place (1= "Facebook" and so on). I want to combine those two variables into one, in order to have only one variable called "brand recall". However, I don't know how to do it. Basically, when I sent the questionnaire to the respondents they mentioned more than one brand in their answers. I don't know how to combine all those answers into one in spss.
You can't do this because you will alter the data. From what I read you have a ranking question or a multiple answear question.
The first variables is for the FIRST brand recalled
The second variables if for the SECOND brand recalled.
Imagine that you want the answer gave in second variable aka second brand to be moved in the first variable. How will you make difference what was the first brand recalled and second brand recalled.
Another thing. If a respondent selected Facebook as first brand(in the first variable) in the second option Facebook was showed/you have the possibility to select it again? If that's the case this is not ok. Imagine that I can select Facebook in first brand recalled and also in the second one.
Give more details and maybe I can help you
Well if it's an open-ended question you can do a basic coding of that OE question and it goes like this:
1.run a basic frequency of the open-end question. example: fre [Open-end question].
2.after you see what answers you have like Facebook, Twitter etc. will have an overview of what brands were mentioned.
Create a numeric variable named brands. example: numeric brands (f2.0) assuming that you have more than 10 individual brands mentioned in the open-end. In case you have more than 100 brands mentioned write (f3.0).
Add value labels for the newly created brands variable. example:
value labels brands
1"Facebook"
2"Instagram"
3"Twitter"
4"[Any other brands mentioned".(very important to have . at the last value label code added)
after you created the variable and added all the brands as value labels/answear options the recode part start:
if [Open-end question]="the exact wording" brands=[select what answear option].
exe.
Example:
if [open-end question]="IG" brands=2. Respondent referred to Instagram.
if [open-end question]="Faaacebook" brands=1. Respondent referred to Facebook.
.
.
.
exe. (do not forget to add at the end .exe in order to run the syntax code)
After you populated the brand variable run a simple frequency to see how many mentions you have.
Hope this answers helps.

Hi everyone, this is my first question.
I'm working on a dataset from patients who undergone urine analysis.
Every row refer to a single Patient Id and every Request ID could refer to different types of urine analysis (aspect, colour, number of erythrocytes, bacteria and go on).
I've add an image to let you understand my dataset.
I'd like to reshape making one request = one row , with all the tests done in the same request on the same row.
After that I want to merge with another df, that I reshape by Request ID (cause the first was missing a "long result" column, that I downloaded from another software in use in our Hospital).
I've tried:
df_pivot = df.pivot(index='Id Richiesta', columns = 'Nome Analisi Elementare', values = 'Risultato')
df_pivot.reset_index(inplace=True)
After I want to do --> df_merge = pd.merge (df_pivot,df,how='left', on='Id Richiesta')
I've tried once with another dataset, but I had to drop_duplicates for other purpose, and it worked.
But this time I have to analyse all the features.
How can I do? Is there no other way than dropping the duplicates?
Thank you for any help! :)
I've studied more my data and discovered 1 duplicate of bacteria for the same id request (1 in almost 8 million entries....)
df.drop_duplicates[df[['Id Richiesta', 'Id Analisi Elementare', 'Risultato']].duplicated()]
Then visualized all the rows referring at the "Id Richiesta" and the keep last (they were the same).
Thank you and sorry.
Please, tell me if I had to delete this question.
so basically I am making a student database that contains student grades, I have a query that gives me a list of what classes a specific student has taken that are part of their major.
This is what the query returns:
Query result
So what I want to do is create a report that has a section like this where it lists all possible classes they can taken per that major:
Report
and I want to have a checkbox next to each class and have the box be checked off if they have taken the class, if they have not I want the box to be empty, so I don't necessarily need anything on the report like grades etc. I just want it checked off if they have taken that specific class . How can I go about this, lost on this part.
Although more information may be required to answer your question correctly, I'll give this a shot:
Assuming your the check box in question is called "Check1" and the table in question is called "Table1" and the field is called "Test" and the Report you mentioned is a form called "Report"... AND its only on the table when it has been completed.
Something to the effect of an "On Load" command into the form like:
If Not IsNull(DLookup("Class_UID", "Table1", "Class_UID = 'INF-202'")) Then
Forms("Report").Check1.Value = 1
End If
Of course, this would need to be added for each unique Class_UID
It's a simplistic way to do it, but far from the only option.
I have a report that returns various products depending on which product group you select. Most of these products all have similar product codes that allow me to use the LIKE operator to get the required results. However, for one particular product group, I have the following problem:
VSAMPLES
VSAMPLES2016
VSAMPLES2016DD
VSAMPLESADD
VSAMPLESET
VSAMPLESLARGE
VSAMPLESLARGEADD
VSAMPLESNEW
I only need the top two products to be listed. But using 'VSAMPLES% as a parameter value will return all of these products.
Can i write an expression for the parameter value that will use 'VSAMPLES% and 'VSAMPLES2016% to only return these two products?
EDIT
The query is:
SELECT STRC_CODE, STRC_DESC FROM DeFactoUser.F_ST_Products
WHERE STRC_CODE LIKE #ProductCode
I am using LIKE so I don't have to specify dozens of products for each group.
For one Parameter value I am using 'PA.A% This works perfectly because every product starting with PA.A is needed. In the case of VSAMPLES this isn't the case.
Parameter Values are as follows:
So, can I not add a value to the Aspire tab that will return only those two products?
OK, What i was asking might not have been possible. i fixed the issue by altering my query.
SELECT STRC_CODE, STRC_STATUS, STRC_DESC FROM DeFactoUser.F_ST_Products
WHERE STRC_CODE LIKE #ProductCode AND STRC_CODE NOT IN ('VSAMPLES2016DD',
'VSAMPLESADD', 'VSAMPLESET', 'VSAMPLESLARGE', 'VSAMPLESLARGEADD',
'VSAMPLESNEW')
This results in only the two products I needed being returned when i use VSAMPLES% as a value.
Much simpler then I thought.
Thanks for the input into the question I asked.
I'm looking over some UniData fields for distinct values but I'm hoping to find a simpler way of doing it. The values aren't keys to anything so right now I'm selecting the records I'm interested in and selecting the data I need with SAVING UNIQUE. The problem is, in order to see what I have all I know to do is save it out to a savedlist and then read through the savedlist file I created.
Is there a way to see the contents of a select without running it against a file?
If you are just wanted to visually look over the data, use LIST instead of SELECT.
The general syntax of the command is something like:
LIST filename WITH [criteria] [sort] [attributes | ALL]
So let's say you have a table called questions and want to look over all the author for questions that used the tag unidata. Your query might look something like:
LIST questions WITH tag = "unidata" BY author author
Note: The second author isn't a mistake, it's the start of the list of attributes you want displayed - in this case just author, but you might want the record id as well, so you could do #ID author instead. Or just do ALL to display everything in each record.
I did BY author here as it will make spotting uniques easier, but you can also use other query features like BREAK.ON to help here as well.
I don't know why I didn't think of it at the time but I basically needed something like SQL's DISTINCT statement since I just needed to view the unique values. Replicating DISTINCT in UniData is explained here, https://forum.precisonline.com/index.php?topic=318.0.
The trick is to sort on the values using BY, get a single unique value of each using BREAK-ON, and then suppress everything except those unique values using DET-SUP.
LIST BUILDINGS BY CITY BREAK-ON CITY DET-SUP
CITY.............
Albuquerque
Arlington
Ashland
Clinton
Franklin
Greenville
Madison
Milton
Springfield
Washington
I have 2 column in my table setting
with the following values
KEY VALUE
company ABC
phone 14344
address Somerset City
I need to display this like a single record or a flatten
array in the view/blade page
something like
{{$sett->company}}
{{$sett->phone}}
or an array with lookup
{{$myarray('company')}}
{{$myarray('phone')}}
The idea is if I add another settings like contact us email address
for my website I don't want to add another column.
I know this is achievable in controller by creating different variable
and executing different query but I'm kind of looking for some options here.
Thanks for the help really appreciated.
You can use $settings->pluck('value', 'key') to get your result. Read more here: https://laravel.com/docs/5.4/collections#method-pluck
