Discord.js Triva Bot Issues - discord.js

I am developing a simple Discord trivia bot (using Discord.js). I am using the code below, but Glitch is giving me errors saying userAnswer is not defined and answered is not defined etc
The code should select a random question, then ask it and wait for an answer and say whether it is correct or incorrect. I have no idea why the errors are occurring.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
const Discord = require("discord.js")
const { Client, MessageAttachment, MessageEmbed, MemberAdd, RichEmbed } = require('discord.js');
const client = new Client();
client.on("ready", () => {
client.user.setActivity("ihs help",{
type:"STREAMING",
url:"https://www.twitch.tv/ihsbot"
})
console.log("I am ready!");
client.on("guildMemberAdd", member => {
member.send(
"Welcome to the server! Please follow our server's rules. Have fun! 😁"
)
})
client.on('message', message, msg => {
if (answered == false) {
userAnswer = msg;
if (userAnswer == cAnswer) {
message.reply ("got it right!")
}
else {
message.reply ("got it wrong!")
}
answered = true; cAnswer = ""; userAnswer = "";
}
if (msg.startsWith("ihs quiz")) {
answered = true;
cAnswer = "";
userAnswer = "";
number = 3;
random = Math.floor (Match.random() * (number - 1 + 1)) + 1;
switch (random) {
case 1: message.channel.send ("**Question** n\A) Answer1 n\B) Answer2 n\C) Answer3 n\D) Answer4"); cAnswer = "a"
case 2: message.channel.send ("**Question** n\A) Answer1 n\B) Answer2 n\C) Answer3 n\D) Answer4"); cAnswer = "a"
case 3: message.channel.send ("**Question** n\A) Answer1 n\B) Answer2 n\C) Answer3 n\D) Answer4"); cAnswer = "a"
}
answered = false;
}
});
client.login("TOKEN");

Node.JS isnt like PHP, where you can just put the value to variable, but you must first declare it, there are 3 main types: const = constant variable, that you dont change, let and var = variables, that can change, for mor info about the diference, this is nice article What's the difference between using "let" and "var"?. To declare variable, do var varName (same for let and const).

How do I substract/add currency to balance with quick.db?

The bot says that I robbed someone but does not add/substract the currency from neither of the users.
Another issue I found is that I can rob myself.
Code I used:
const Discord = require("discord.js");
const db = require("quick.db");
const ms = require("parse-ms");
module.exports.run = async (bot, message, args) => {
if(!message.content.startsWith('db!'))return;
let user = message.mentions.members.first()
let targetuser = await db.fetch(`money_${message.guild.id}_${user.id}`)
let author = await db.fetch(`rob_${message.guild.id}_${user.id}`)
let author2 = await db.fetch(`money_${message.guild.id}_${user.id}`)
let timeout = 600000;
if (author !== null && timeout - (Date.now() - author) > 0) {
let time = ms(timeout - (Date.now() - author));
let timeEmbed = new Discord.RichEmbed()
.setColor("#FFFFFF")
.setDescription(`❌ You have already robbed someone\n\nTry again in ${time.minutes}m ${time.seconds}s `);
message.channel.send(timeEmbed)
} else {
let moneyEmbed = new Discord.RichEmbed()
.setColor("#FFFFFF")
.setDescription(`❌ You need atleast 200 dabloons in your wallet to rob someone`);
if (author2 < 200) {
return message.channel.send(moneyEmbed)
}
let moneyEmbed2 = new Discord.RichEmbed()
.setColor("#FFFFFF")
.setDescription(`❌ ${user.user.username} does not have anything you can rob`);
if (targetuser < 0) {
return message.channel.send(moneyEmbed2)
}
let vip = await db.fetch(`bronze_${user.id}`)
if(vip === true) random = Math.floor(Math.random() * 200) + 1;
if (vip === null) random = Math.floor(Math.random() * 100) + 1;
let embed = new Discord.RichEmbed()
.setDescription(`✔️ You robbed ${user} and got away with ${random} dabloons!`)
.setColor("#FFFFFF")
message.channel.send(embed)
db.subtract(`money_${message.guild.id}_${user.id}`, random)
db.add(`money_${message.guild.id}_${user.id}`, random)
db.set(`rob_${message.guild.id}_${user.id}`, Date.now())
};
}
module.exports.help = {
name:"rob",
aliases: [""]
}
I tried using code from other people, but the code I used did not work and just broke the bot
To solve the db issue, you can see Elitezen's comment
To solve the issue where you can rob yourself,
you can simply check if the person getting robbed is the author of the message
if(message.mentions.members.first().id === message.member.id) return message.channel.send(errorEmbed)
Also, this is a super outdated version of discord.js and is highly recommended to update.

Economy leaderboard command: undefined

I am making a discord economy/currency bot, and this is the leaderboard command. It works, but whenever I run the command !leaderboard, I don't get any of the user's tags, I just get the undefined#0000. I would like my leaderboard command to show the users with the highest amount of currency.
const { MessageEmbed } = require('discord.js');
const db = require('quick.db');
module.exports = {
name: "leaderboard",
description: 'server\'s $ leaderboard',
aliases: ['lb'],
}
module.exports.run = async (message) => {
let money = db.all().filter(data => data.ID.startsWith(`money_`)).sort((a, b) => b.data - a.data);
if (!money.length) {
let noEmbed = new MessageEmbed()
.setAuthor(message.member.displayName, message.author.displayAvatarURL())
.setColor("BLUE")
.setFooter("No leaderboard")
return message.channel.send(noEmbed)
};
money.length = 10;
var finalLb = "";
for (var i in money) {
let currency1;
let fetched = await db.fetch(`currency_${message.guild.id}`);
if (fetched == null) {
currency1 = '🎱'
} else {
currency1 = fetched
}
if (money[i].data === null) money[i].data = 0
finalLb += `**${money.indexOf(money[i]) + 1}. ${message.guild.members.cache.get(money[i].ID.split('_')[1]) ? message.guild.members.cache.get(money[i].ID.split('_')[1]).tag : "undefined#0000"}** - ${money[i].data} ${currency1}\n`;
};
const embed = new MessageEmbed()
.setTitle(message.guild.name)
.setColor("BLUE")
.setDescription(finalLb)
.setTimestamp()
.setFooter('Command: !help for currency commands')
message.channel.send(embed);
}
Try following code:
let money = db.all().filter(data => data.ID.startsWith(`money_${message.guild.id}`)).sort((a, b) => b.data - a.data)
money.length = 10;
var finalLb = "";
for (var i in money) {
finalLb += `**${money.indexOf(money[i])+1}. ${client.users.cache.get(money[i].ID.split('_')[1]) ? client.users.cache.get(money[i].ID.split('_')[1]).tag : "Unknown User#0000"}** - ${money[i].data}\n`;
}
const embed = new Discord.MessageEmbed()
.setAuthor(`Global Coin Leaderboard!`, message.guild.iconURL())
.setColor("#7289da")
.setDescription(finalLb)
.setFooter(client.user.tag, client.user.displayAvatarURL())
.setTimestamp()
message.channel.send(embed);
I personally use above code for my bot and it works pretty well for me.
Try putting the client.login('token') at the bottom of your code. Maybe the bot can't find the user tag's because of that?

Discord.Js - making a bot that creates custom roles

I'm someone who just got into coding recently.
I'm trying to create a Discord bot that can do custom roles that can allow a user of that custom role to edit its hex or name.
There's also the creation of a role creator that also assigns the mentioned user the role.
My problem is that I've encountered an issue with the role creation + assignment and the commands that allow the user to edit their role.
Here are the problems:
(node:6288) UnhandledPromiseRejectionWarning: TypeError: Cannot read property 'get' of undefined for the role creator command
When I try to use the commands that allow the user to customize their roles, the commands don't work, or to be more specific, they don't activate.
I do believe that the codes I'm using could be outdated, therefore if that is the case, please give me the exact location and the right code.
Here are some pictures of the codes. I've pasted the codes below, but I'm a bit new to this forum, so please pay attention to the separating pieces like "Role Customization Code:" to distinguish which one's which. For some reason, the module.exports aren't going in there. Please describe and let me know a solution to these problems in a specific way since I am a newbie at this topic.

Discord.js how to use bot mention and a set prefix as prefixes

I want to make it so that if I do [prefix] [command] it will give the same effect as [mention bot] [command] but the way I create commands and args makes that difficult:
The prefix is stored as var prefix = '!3';
And this is how I create commands:
bot.on('message', msg => {
if (!msg.content.startsWith(prefix) || msg.author.bot)
return;
//the first message after '!13 '
//!
let args = msg.content.toLowerCase().substring(prefix.length).split(" ");
//^
//any capitalisation is allowed (ping,Ping,pIng etc.)
switch(args[1]) {
case 'ping': //if user inputs '!3 ping'
msg.channel.send('Pong!') //send a message to the channel 'Pong!'
}//switch (command) ends here
};//event listener ends here
You can have a list of predefined prefixes and loop over that to determine if the msg has a prefix from that list.
let prefixList = ['!31 ', '!asdf ', `<#${bot.user.id}> `, `<#!${bot.user.id}> `]
function hasPrefix(str) {
for(let pre of prefixList)
if(str.startsWith(pre))
return true;
return false;
}
<#${bot.user.id}> , <#!${bot.user.id}> will set up bot mention as a prefix.
Here's the shorter version of secretlyrice's answer:
const startsWithPrefix = (command) =>
['!prefix1 ', '!prefix2', <#botId>, <#!botId>].some(p => command.startsWith(p))
Nice code, but change it 1 to 0
switch(args[0]) {
case 'ping': //if user inputs '!3 ping'
msg.channel.send('Pong!') //send a message to the channel 'Pong!'
}
I assume you are running on an older version of Discord.js cause if you are using v13 message is depricated and should be messageCreate but this is what I used when I wasn't using slash commands.
const escapeRegex = str => str.replace(/[.*+?^${}()|[\]\\]/g, '\\$&')
const prefix = '!'
bot.on('message', async msg => {
const prefixRegex = new RegExp(`^(<#!?${bot.user.id}>|${escapeRegex(prefix)})\\s*`)
if (!prefixRegex.test(message.content)) return
// checks for bot mention or prefix
const [, matchedPrefix] = message.content.match(prefixRegex)
const args = message.content.slice(matchedPrefix.length).trim().split(/ +/)
// removes prefix or bot mention
const command = args.shift().toLowerCase()
// gets command from next arg
if (command === 'ping') {
msg.channel.send('Pong!')
}
})

How to make this bot listen to argument after prefix and answer?

so i'm trying this 8ball bot, and everything is working fine, but i can't get how can i leave in the condition that only when the bot get "!verda arg1 arg2" it answers one of the replies in the array.
meanwhile my condition is if the user type the prefix "!verda" only, it replies , i want to include the argument too in the condition
const Discord = require("discord.js");
const client = new Discord.Client();
const cfg = require("./config.json");
const prefix = cfg.prefix;
client.on("message", msg => {
if (!msg.content.startsWith(prefix) || msg.author.bot) return;
const args = msg.content.slice(prefix.length).split(/ +/);
const command = args.shift().toLowerCase;
if (msg.content === prefix){
let replies = [
"Yes.",
"No.",
"I don't know.",
"Maybe."
];
let result = Math.floor((Math.random() * replies.length));
msg.channel.send(replies[result]);
}
else if (msg.content === "!help"){
msg.channel.send("I have only 1 command [!verda]");
}
})
client.login(cfg.token);
const command = args.shift().toLowerCase;
toLowerCase is a function and therefore should be
const command = args.shift().toLowerCase();
By doing msg.content === prefix, you are checking if the whole content of the message is equal to that of cfg.prefix
if(msg.content.startsWith(`${prefix}8ball`) {
}
The answer was simple as i figured it out, i simply had to join the spaces
if (msg.content === `${prefix} ${args.join(" ")}`)
