When I try to start Oracle SQL developer or Oracle Data modeler from Fedora,a screen opens but it is blank.Any leads here is helpful.
I had to install at least one or both of these. I have them both:
java-1.8.0-openjdk-openjfx
openjfx

SQL Server Management Studio used to have Debug functionality that would allow to step through the code and watch the values etc. Referring to How to add the Debug button to SSMS v18?, I understand that the functionality is removed from SQL Server Management Studio V18.1.
But what is the alternative now? How do you step through the code to pinpoint a bug in the code?
You can use Visual Studio (the full IDE) to do it:
Use "Server Explorer" (Under the View menu) to connect to your DB
Right-click the DB and choose "New Query" (or find a stored procedure to debug)
Set a break point (F9 key or otherwise) on a line of SQL
Right-click inside the SQL editor and choose "Execute with Debugger"
Your best option is to not upgrade version 18.X, but stay on 17.9 until the Microsoft Product Manager gets sacked. A similar thing happened in going from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2k5. Eventually, they capitulated and re-introduced the feature.
Ta for answer above, but when trying to debug with Sever Explorer, I find that "SQL Debugging is not supported on Microsoft Azure SQL Database'... ho hum, so I downgrade to SSMS 17.9 or dump the database to local and do it there.
Nice, I just wanted to quickly debug something... by the time I've done that lot I'll have forgotten what the problem I was trying to fix was !
It's deprecated, so you don't. Personally, I never use the feature and I'm assuming many others didn't either (which is why it's being retired).
The work around is to debug stored procedures by outputting values using PRINT or RAISERROR. Using BEGIN TRAN / ROLLBACK this works well because you can easily run code against the same data.
It's not the same as step through debugging, but it works.
I am trying to query a remote database that I am connected to, however am having issues 'connecting' to the database with the Query Tool. The Query Tool opens, however the 'plug' icon stays red and doesn't seem to connect to the database (see picture below).
I'm not sure if that is the best way to describe it, however hopefully attached picture makes sense.
Is there a reason that this is occurring? I have left it to load overnight, etc. in case it is just waiting to connect with remote database but it still does not connect.
Thanks in advance
I had the same problem for months. But I found that the issue would be resolved when we download and install pgAdmin 4 v4.2 .If a VPN is needed to connect to your remote database, makes sure that it works fine in your computer.
The download link is:
https://www.pgadmin.org/download/
We had a similar problem with 3.x. In our case, upgrading to 4.4 did not solve the problem until we restarted the computer (MacOSX); although we had stopped the local server before upgrading.
I have following problem: When I try to deploy my SSAS project (with cube, dimensions and all that jazz) to sql-server, it throws error saying that
You cannot deploy the model because the DB deployment server is not running in multidimensional mode.
I'm new to this, so it might be a dumb question, but how do I change database mode from tabular to multidimensional?
It is possible to stop SSAS, edit the msmdsrv.ini and change DeploymentMode from 2 to 0. Empty the DataDir folder. Then start SSAS. This will change the instance from Tabular mode to Multidimensional mode. It will not convert models.
Cathy Dumas describes the reverse here.
Tabular and Multi Dimensional are completely different thing.
When you install SQL Server, you have to choose which one you are going to install.
So, if you create a Tabular model, you only can deploy it to Tabular installation of SSAS and the same for Multi Dimensional
you can not convert those model to each other.
Best recommendation is to reinstall only SQL Server Analysis Services feature without disrupting other features/components like SQL Server Engine. During reinstallation of the feature, we can change the configuration of Analysis Services to Multidimensional and Data Mining Mode. The whole reinstall process takes less than 10 minutes. So, this approach is easy and quick.
I'm enlisting all the steps here for SQL Server 2017 installation:
Go to Add Remove Program (ARP) Window in Control Panel. Alternatively, you run appwiz.cpl command from Windows Run prompt (Refer screenshot).
Select the row for Microsoft SQL Server 2017 (64-bit) and click on Uninstall/Change (Refer screenshot).
It'll open the SQL Server 2017 change wizard (Refer screenshot):
Click on Remove link
Select the Analysis Services checkbox on Select Features step of uninstallation wizard (Refer screenshot):
Complete remove action by following the remaining steps in the guided wizard. They are self-explanatory in nature.
Restart from step 1 but this time click on Add link (Refer screenshot in step # 2) to start installation wizard.
During feature addition, it'll ask for the location of SQL Server setup files. Setup files can be present in a folder in your hard disk, Compact Disk (CD), or a mounted virtual drive via an ISO image file.
Reinstall SQL Server Analysis Services feature. On the Analysis Services Configuration step of the installation wizard, go to Server Configuration tab and select the Multi-dimensional and Data Mining Mode option button (Refer screenshot):
Click Next > and complete the installation by following the remaining steps in the guided wizard. They are self-explanatory in nature.
All you have to do it go edit the MSMDSRV.ini and change the deployment mode to either (0,1,2,3) depending on what you are trying to use. Also remember that you have to log off the SQL studio and log back in.
I'm using SSMS (from SQL Server 2014 Developer edition) to work with SQL Azure. It's running on Windows 10. I have a number of databases set up on Azure, and have always used SSMS to work with them. I have also installed devart's dbForge Studio for SQL and use that from time to time.
I've now hit a very weird problem. I was about to create a view, and clicked the + next to a table to expand the nodes below. Then I clicked the + next to columns and got a strange error as follows:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server&LinkId=20476
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
unknown property IsMemoryOptimized (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc)
Having dismissed this error, everything seemed fine, however, until I noticed that I no longer have a Columns node under that table. Or indeed any table (see screenshot).
I tried the following trouble-shooting steps:
Restart SSMS. No change
Restart the PC. No change
Use the "Repair" option in the SQL Server Installation Center to repair the Management tools. No change
Then I tried connecting to another database entirely, and I can see columns again! But when I connect back to this one, no columns.
To be clear, the columns ARE there, I can use them in SELECT statements, and I can use Script table as --> Create and SSMS creates a script including all the column names.
I can also see the columns if I use DBForge instead of SSMS.
Anyone ever come across this? It's a real mystery to me, so I'm hoping someone here can help. Incidentally, I did follow the link in the error message above to see if there's more information, but no luck.
This is a bug in SSMS. Ensure that your SSMS 2014 is updated (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46694) or, even better, use the latest version of SSMS (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlreleaseservices/archive/2015/09/01/announcing-sql-server-management-studio-august-2015-release.aspx).
I'm having an Oracle 10g installation on Windows, and I'm trying to upgrade to 11g installed on Oracle Linux, with a change of the character set from we8iso8859p1 to we8iso8859p15.
Before upgrading i want to run the csscan to see if data in the 10g db is ok. I'm only interested in a schema(only this will be exported), so i want to run it only on that schema.
Can i do this? How ?
Thank you!
The cssscan documentation shows that you can run it for a single user (schema), with a USER=<schema> parameter. Also see the parameter section. I don't have an environment set up to run this against but I seem to think ti was pretty straightforward when I last used it, just following the docs.
