I just upgraded from Yosemite to El Capitan (and replicated the problem upgrading from El Capitan to Sierra), and when I try to type for example git status inside a terminal, I get the following error:
xcrun: error: invalid active developer path
(/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools), missing xcrun at:
/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr/bin/xcrun
I don't have Xcode installed, never did.
Anyone have a solution?
Found the fix for the problem here.
xcode-select --install
This will bring up a prompt to install the necessary command line tools.
If you have issues with the xcode-select --install command; e.g. I kept getting a network problem timeout, then try downloading the dmg at developer.apple.com/downloads (Command line tools OS X 10.11) for Xcode 7.1
In macOS 10.14 this issue may also occur if you have two or more versions installed. If you like xCode GUI you can do it by going into preferences - CMD + ,, selecting Locations tab and choosing version of Command Line Tools. Please refer to the attached print screen.
I tried the solution xcode-select --install but it don't help me, I update from Sierra to High and happened this, my solution:
sudo xcode-select --reset
Reassigning the path Xcode is configured with worked for me.
sudo xcode-select -switch /Applications/Xcode.app
You'll then likely be prompted (after trying a command) to agree to the license agreement.
I had the same issue after upgrading to macOS Catalina.
This didn't work for me:
xcode-select --install
Downloading and installing Command Line Tools for Xcode 12 did it!
For me, after I've removed Xcode, I have to switch active developer path as follows:
sudo xcode-select -s /
I just updated to High Sierra and I couldn't just run xcode-select --install. First, I had to actually install xcode from the app store. Then I ran xcode-select --install. Then I had to run sudo xcodebuild -license, agree to the terms, then I could finally run git commands again.
Updated to High Sierra 10.13.2
xcode-select --install ALONE did not work for me.
Download X-code from app store
$xcode-select --install
a. May need to update after install using softwareupdate in command line. $sudo softwareupdate -i "Command Line Tools (macOS High Sierra version 10.13) for Xcode-9.1"
$sudo xcodebuild -license
For Mojave
Uninstall Any old version of Command Line Tools:
sudo rm -rf /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools
Download and Install Command Line Tools 10.14 Mojave.
For those also having issues with heroku command line tools after upgrading, I also had to do the following in my terminal:
xcode-select --install
brew install heroku/brew/heroku
brew link --overwrite heroku
It seems the upgrade to High Sierra messed with my symlinks in addition to forcing me to reinstall xcode tools. I kept getting 'not a directory' errors:
▸ stat /Users/mattymc/.local/share/heroku/client/bin/heroku: not a directory
▸ fork/exec /Users/mattmcinnis/.local/share/heroku/client/bin/heroku: not a directory
Hope that saves someone an hour :)
After update to macOS 10.13.3
After updating do macOS 10.13, I had to install
"Command Line Tools (macOS 10.13) for Xcode 9.3"
downloaded from https://developer.apple.com/download/more/
I upgraded mac os to macOS High Sierra - 10.13.3 and faced a similar issue while trying to install watchman (with command - brew install watchman).
ran the command: xcode-select --install, then ran "brew install watchman" - Everything works fine!
For the most recent version Mojave version 10.14.1, I use
solved by downloaded from https://developer.apple.com/download/more/ " login by apple id, and download
Command line tool newest stable version.dmg
That makes everything work
the old answer
xcode-select --install
doesn't work for me.
sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/Developer
Work for me.
Even if you do xcode-select --install it was not fixing that for me as it showed some network error. The problem was that it could not connect to the app store. I did the following to fix it.
Open keystore
Go to system root and select certificates.
Open digicert high assurance EV.
Expand the trust section, mark it as never trust.
Restart system now repeat step 1, 2, 3. and mark the trust policy as
back to use system defaults.
Your app store should work now and you should be able to run xcode-select --install

I am trying to install mongoDB as a macOS service but I am running to some errors
I first put in the terminal
brew tap mongodb
Nothing really happens.
But, when I run:
brew install mongodb-community#5.0
I receive:
Warning: No available formula with the name "mongosh" (dependency of mongodb/brew/mongodb-community). Did you mean mongocli?
==> Searching for similarly named fo This similarly named formula was found: mongocli ✔
To install it, run: brew install mongocli ✔ It was migrated from mongodb/brew to homebrew/core.
Finally, when I run
brew services start mongodb-community#5.0
I receive
Error: Formula 'mongodb-community' is not installed.
Any advice?
I had the same happen, however my issue was actually with this error:
fatal: could not solve HEAD to a revision
solve it using:
git -C $(brew --repository homebrew/core) checkout master
you can also:
brew update
brew upgrade
brew upgrade --cask
brew cleanup
and then restart the mongodb community edition install process again! Worked for me!
I am experiencing the exact same problem (I am using MacOC version 11.5.1).
The reason why your brew tap mongodb does not seem to be doing anything may be because you have already tapped into mongodb. Try untapping with brew untap mongodband retapping with brew tap mongodb/brew.
After you have established the connection, try installing again with brew install mongodb-community#5.0. At this stage, I could not get the installation to work for version 5.0 so I installed version 4.4 instead (with brew install mongodb-community#4.4).
After that, try running mongo with brew services start mongodb-community#5.0 (or brew services start mongodb-community#4.4 if you have installed 4.4 version) and it should work just fine!
If you have installed version 4.4, be sure to run the command PATH="/usr/local/opt/mongodb-community#4.4/bin" mongo to start the mongo shell.
I was also having the same issue. This solved it for me:
git -C $(brew --repository homebrew/core) checkout master
brew update
brew upgrade
brew upgrade --cask
brew cleanup
Then install the latest version of Mongodb community using:
brew install mongodb-community#6.0
Note: version might be outdated at the time you're reading this
Check with brew list | grep mongo that mongodb-community, mongodb-database-tools, mongosh exist at your PC. If they do not exist, install them with brew.
Recently also installed mongodb V4.4.5 and can not start it with brew services start mongodb-community. For me works starting it manually as a background process as admin sudo mongod --config /usr/local/etc/mongod.conf --fork
And last call mongo to work with mongoDB shell.
Reason: directory/file access issue. Not sure.
I just installed the VMware Workstation Player virtual machine on my laptop running Ubuntu. On the final step of installation, I get the error message "Version mismatch with vmmon module: expecting 360.0, got 309.0.
You have an incorrect version of the 'vmmon' kernel module" Does anyone know how to fix this?
The below technique manually rewrites vmmon and is from a vmware forum (and other places). This worked well for me for my Ubuntu 18.04 guest on a MacOS host.
Quit Fusion.
In terminal:
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/vmmon.kext
sudo cp -pR /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/kexts/vmmon.kext /System/Library/Extensions/
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/vmmon.kext
sudo kextutil /System/Library/Extensions/vmmon.kext
VMWare should restart correctly with the new version.
Below is the Error message I get every time I install anything in the terminal . Its kinda stuck there for a while.
I tried no. of solutions from StackOverflow but nothing worked.
Before installing this package,
please download the Oracle JDK 11 .tar.gz file
with the same version as this package (version 11.0.4),
and place it in /var/cache/oracle-jdk11-installer-local,
E.g.:
sudo mkdir -p /var/cache/oracle-jdk11-installer-local
sudo cp jdk-11.0.4_linux-x64_bin.tar.gz /var/cache/oracle-jdk11-installer-local/
sha256sum mismatch jdk-11.0.4_linux-x64_bin.tar.gz
Oracle JDK 11 is NOT installed.
dpkg: error processing package oracle-java11-installer-local (--configure):
installed oracle-java11-installer-local package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
oracle-java11-installer-local
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Doesn't show up again.
Remove the package oracle-java11-installer-local. You can do this in following way:
sudo apt remove oracle-java11-installer-local
found this solution:
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/oracle-java11-installer-local.postinst
at this site.
You need to download the folder of the Oracle JDK 11 on here https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase-jdk11-downloads.html
After download the tar.gz file. Move to your folder location then copy the file by using this command
sudo cp jdk-11.0.6_linux-x64_bin.tar.gz /var/cache/oracle-jdk11-installer-local/
don't forget to check your file name! After that repeat again by typing
sudo apt-get install oracle-java11-installer-local
and you can check your java version after that by typing
java -version
Hello,
I've had the same issue.
When you try to run sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade it will automatically try to update the Java if a newer version is available. In my case let's say from 11.0.4 -> 11.0.5.
If you add the JDK from Oracle (after download) to /var/cache/oracle-jdk11-installer-local/ it should work.
You don't have to uninstall it...(I mean the oracle-jdk11-installer-local, it works just fine).
Please let me know if you still have this issue.
I had the same issue. My solution was to download jdk-11.0.5_linux-x64_bin.tar.gz and copied it to /var/cache/oracle-jdk11-installer-local.
In console shell, type:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
After a long search: this solved it for me.
The checksum made the issues for me. Try:
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/oracle-java11-installer-local.postinst -f
Navigating to the directory var/cache and doing "sudo rmdir oracle-jdk11-installer-local/" worked for me.
sudo rmdir oracle-jdk11-installer-local/
I have managed to resolve the issue by doing this:
modify /var/lib/dpkg/info/oracle-java11-installer-local.postinst
Change the checkSum. take from oracle website check sum for 11.0.15.1
3. change the version in 2 places
4. save and update apt
5. then sudo apt install oracle-java11-installer-local
this worked for me
Using the CakePHP docs, I am trying to install 3.0-beta2 using composer but I got this error:
cakephp/cakephp 3.0.x-dev requires ext-intl * -> the requested PHP extension intl is missing from your system
However, I know for sure that intl is installed (it shows on phpinfo). I'm using PHP 5.4.33/Apache 2.4.10.1
I faced the same problem today. You need to enable the intl PHP extension in your PHP configuration (.ini).
Solution Xampp (Windows)
Open /xampp/php/php.ini
Change ;extension=php_intl.dll to extension=php_intl.dll (remove the semicolon)
Copy all the /xampp/php/ic*.dll files to /xampp/apache/bin
Restart apache in the Xampp control panel
Solution Linux (thanks to Annamalai Somasundaram)
Install the php5-intl extension sudo apt-get install php5-intl
1.1. Alternatively use sudo yum install php5-intl if you are on CentOS or Fedora.
Restart apache sudo service apache2 restart
Solution Mac/OSX (homebrew) (thanks to deizel)
Install the php5-intl extension brew install php56-intl
If you get No available formula for php56-intl follow these instructions.
Restart apache sudo apachectl restart
Eventually you can run composer install to check if it's working. It will give an error if it's not.
I faced the same issue in ubuntu 12.04
Installed: sudo apt-get install php5-intl
Restarted the Apache: sudo service apache2 restart
OS X Homebrew (May 2015):
The intl extension has been removed from the main php5x formulas, so you no longer compile with the --enable-intl flag.
If you can't find the new package:
$ brew install php56-intl
Error: No available formula for php56-intl
Follow these instructions: https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-php/issues/1701
$ brew install php56-intl
==> Installing php56-intl from homebrew/homebrew-php
When using MAMP
1 Go to terminal
vim ~/.bash_profile
i
export PATH=/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.6.2/bin:$PATH
Change php5.6.2 to the php version you use with MAMP
Hit ESC,
Type :wq,
hit Enter
source ~/.bash_profile
which php
2 Install Mac Ports
https://www.macports.org/install.php
sudo port install php5-intl OR sudo port install php53-intl
cp /opt/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/intl.so /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5.3/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/
{take a good look at the folder names that u use the right ones}
3 Add extension
Now, add the extension to your php.ini file:
extension=intl.so
Usefull Link:
https://gist.github.com/irazasyed/5987693
The error message clearly states what the problem is. You need the intl extension installed.
Step 1: install PHP intl you comfortable version
$sudo apt-get install php-intl
step 2:
For XAMPP Server intl extension is already installed, you need to enable this extension to uncomment below the line in your php.ini file. Php.ini file is located at c:\xampp\php\php.ini or where you have installed XAMPP.
Before uncomment:
;extension=php_intl.dll ;extension=php_mbstring.dll
After uncommenting:
extension=php_intl.dll extension=php_mbstring.dll
Short answer: activate intl extension in php_cli.ini. Thanks to #ndm for his input.
If you are using latest version Ubuntu 16.04 or later just do
sudo apt-get install php-intl
Then restart your apache
sudo service apache2 restart
In my case I was not actually trying to run cakephp locally, I was just trying to get it to auto update locally using composer (because I am playing with writing plugins that you install with composer). Since I don't actually even run it locally I could simply ignore requirements by adding the --ignore-platform-reqs flag.
php composer.phar update --ignore-platform-reqs
In my case, my running php version is 7.1.x on mac OSX .
I installed intl command using brew install php71-intl.
Placing extension=intl.so inside php.ini was no effect at all. Finally i looked for extension installed directory and there i saw intl.so and placed that path (extension=/usr/local/Cellar/php71-intl/7.1.11_20/intl.so) to my php.ini file and it solved my problem.
In my case (xampp PHP 8.0)
Find ;extension=intl in /xampp/php/php.ini
Remove ; and Restart Apache
MAKE this
In XAMPP, intl extension is included but you have to uncomment extension=php_intl.dll in php.ini and restart the server through the XAMPP Control Panel.
In WAMP, the intl extension is “activated” by default but not working. To make it work you have to go to php folder (by default) C:\wamp\bin\php\php{version}, copy all the files that looks like icu*.dll and paste them into the apache bin directory C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache{version}\bin. Then restart all services and it should be OK.
if you use XAMPP do this
1. turn off XAMPP
2. Modifed the php.ini is located in c/:xampp/php/php.ini
3. intl extension is included but you have to uncomment extension=php_intl.dll in php.ini and restart the server through the XAMPP Control Panel.
For Ubuntu terminal:
Please follow the steps:
Step-1:
cd ~
Step -2: Run the following commands
sudo apt-get install php5-intl
Step -3: You then need to restart Apache
sudo service apache2 restart
For Windows(XAMPP) :
Find the Php.ini file:
/xampp/php/php.ini
Update the php.ini file with remove (;) semi colon like mentioned below:
;extension=php_intl.dll to extension=php_intl.dll
and save the php.ini file.
After that you need to
Restart the xampp using xampp control.
Intl Means :Internationalization extension which enables programmers to perform UCA-conformant collation and number, currency, date, time formatting in PHP scripts.
To enable PHP Intl with PECL can be used.
pecl install intl
On a plain RHEL/CentOS/Fedora, PHP Intl can be install using yum
yum install php-intl
On Ubuntu, PHP Intl can be install using apt-get
apt-get install php5-intl
Restart Apache service for the changes to take effect.
That's it
For those who get Package not found error try sudo apt-get install php7-intl then run composer install in your project directory.
I had the same problem in windows
The error was that I had installed several versions of PHP and the Environment Variables were routing to wrong Path of php see image example
I'm using Mac OS High Sierra and none of these worked for me. But after searching a lot I found one that worked!
This may seem trivial, but in fact about 2 months ago some clever guys made changes in brew repository, so doing just: brew install php71-intl will show you error with message that such recipe doesn’t exists.
Fortunately, there is. There is temporary fix in another brew repo, so all you have to do is:
brew tap kyslik/homebrew-php
brew install kyslik/php/php71-intl
SOURCE: http://blastar.biz/2018/04/14/how-to-enable-php-intl-extension-for-php-7-1-using-xampp-on-macos-high-sierra/
I use Linux Ubuntu 20, you can try this:
Check php installed modules:
php -m | grep intl
If there are no result(s) from this command, you should just go ahead and install the module:
sudo apt-get install php7.4-intl
you will need to change *php7.4 to your desired php version.
you should restart apache when you're done:
sudo service apache2 restart
When I try to run mongod from the terminal, I get the following error:
2014-07-02T23:56:24.797-0700 [initandlisten] ERROR: listen(): bind() failed errno:48 Address already in use for socket: 0.0.0.0:27017
2014-07-02T23:56:24.797-0700 [initandlisten] ERROR: addr already in use
I recently realize that I have two versions of MongoDB on my Mac, and think this may be the source for the above error. (Plus, I do not need two version.) I tried Googling, but was not able to find clear directions on how I can uninstall. I have development version 2.7.0 AND 2.6.3.
Thanks so much in advance for the help!
Run the following commands to remove mongodb from the launch/startup and to uninstall it using Homebrew:
# See if mongo is in the launch/startup list
launchctl list | grep mongo
# Remove mongodb from the launch/startup
launchctl remove homebrew.mxcl.mongodb
# Kill the mongod process just in case it's running
pkill -f mongod
# Now you can safely remove mongodb using Homebrew
brew uninstall mongodb
Just double-check in /usr/local/bin/ to make sure that the mongodb commands are removed.
For uninstalling the community version, i found that the command brew uninstall mongodb-community worked for me
Nitin Jadhav version worked for me, brew uninstall mongodb kept given me Error: No such keg: /usr/local/Cellar/mongodb. I was removing a mongodb-community.
use cd /usr/local/Cellar then run ls -a and then run rm -rf mongodb-community to remove it
I would suggest navigating into your /usr/local/Cellar and run an ls -a, I had a community version of mongo installed that wasn't being picked up by the command given above. If you find any mongo versions there just rm -rf each instance
For those having this error in osx:
brew uninstall mongodb Error: No such keg: /usr/local/Cellar/mongodb
execute brew list | grep mongo
for example, it could show something like:
mongodb-community#4.2
mongodb-database-tools
mongosh
remove them with brew uninstall mongodb-community#4.2 mongodb-database-tools mongosh
Also execute launchctl remove homebrew.mxcl.mongodb as #anuvrat-tiku says in his answer.
