How to create New Server in Microsoft SQL Server 2017 - sql-server

I have installed Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2017. After the installation completed, I launched the Studio. It asked me for server name. How can I create a new server? click here to view picture

You can not. SQL Server is a software that is INSTALLED on servers. Same like ordering a new phone (ssms) does not magically create a phone provider (sql server).
Either you get access to it (download MS, i.e.) or your company / school provides you with the database and access credentials. Which include server name.

"Create new table" is not visible on SSMS 2016 for SQL Server 2008

I have a shared hosting. I was happy with it. I was creating new databases on its panel and then I was managing my databases with SQL Server Management Studio. I could add new table by right clicking the database with designer.
Database is: SQL Server 10.0.2531 (SQL Server 2008 SP1 I think)
My SSMS details
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 13.0.15500.91
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 13.0.1605.86
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 10.0.10586.0
Microsoft MSXML 3.0 6.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.11.10586.0
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0.30319.42000
Operating System 6.3.10586
I have updated my SSMS to 2016. But now, when I right click on my database, there is no "New -> Table menu". The right-click menu is only "Filter, Start Powershell, Report and Refresh"
Now I can create new table by New Query menu (by writing query), but where is my "New -> Table menu"? Is this a security issue ?
There is a bug reported for this issue

In SSMS you can use a SQL script to create a new table because that processing is done on the server. However, SSMS provides the capability to add a table, here the User interface has to be developed to provide the necessary features for each version of SQL Server, this obviously has an overhead. So gradually older versions get dropped.
SSMS for SQL 2012 did not provide support for SQL Server 2005.
Now as Damien_The_Unbeliever points out SSMS for SQL Server 2016 supports all supported versions of SQL Server. But this is for "Mainstream Support End Date", so alas, SQL Server 2012 is the last version that has full UI support.
Still you can have mulitple versions of SSMS installed, just like you may need to keep BIDS as well as Data Tools installed to maintain older verions of SSIS

Creating Database in Visual Studio 2015

I am trying to create a database in Visual Studio 2015 MVC setup. When I create a new file in the "App_Data" folder and select SQL Server Database, a popup comes up that says the following:
"Connections to SQL Server database files (.mdf) require LocalDB or
SQL Server Express to be installed and running on the local computer.
You may need to modify the setup and ensure Microsoft SQL Server Data
Tools is selected."
I have already installed SQL Express in my computer. But Visual Studio still shows the same popup. Can anyone please give me a step by step instruction on how to create a DB through Visual Studio 2015?
(My thought was if I clicked on new file->SQL server Database, then a popup would launch allowing me to input my data and name it. But I obviously am unable to do that).
Make sure that SQL Server is up and running. Open up SQL Server Management Studios (installed with SQL Server) and try and connect to the instance that you created (should be the same as your machine name). If it fails to connect, SQL Server might not be running.
To turn it on, open SQL Server Configuration Manager (just do a search and it'll show up), go to SQL Server Services, and turn on the database engine. You should then be able to connect to the database.

How to Open a Database from Visual Studio Server Explorer in SQL Server?

Question Background
I have a created a database in Visual Studio under the Server Explorer tab. This is fine but I would like to be able to open this database in SQL Server Management Studio (SQL Server 2008 in this case). I can't see the database under the database list in SQL.
How can I open the database I've created in Visual Studio in SQL Server?
The following diagrams show the issues:
The MainDB.mdf database in VS:
SQL Server 2008 Management Studio. The database MainDB database is not showing:
You are connecting to two different instances. From Visual Studio, the default instance is either localhost\SQLExpress or just localhost (or just your computer name). From SQL Server Management Studio I can see that you specified something else. From the "Connect to Server" window in SQL Management Studio, choose one of the instances I mentioned above. Or alternatively, from Visual Studio, right click on "Data Connections" --> "Add Connection...", and then specify the same instance name you used to connect using SQL Server Management Studio.
Since you are using Visual Studio 2012, here is something that changed - VS 2012 uses a localDB instance whenever you create a database for use within your application. So you have 2 options:
1. There is a new window called the SQL Server Object Explorer that you can use to work with your LocalDB. It provides a view of your database objects that’s similar to SQL Server Management Studio. You can access it from the view menu.
2. If you still want to use SSMS, you can access it by putting (localdb)\v11.0 in server name. More about this here.
It should show directly in SQL Server, Unless your are using different credentials for connection. (credentials means Server Name & User)

Can you let us know are they both same ?
You can also try 'Browse in sql server object explorer' by right clicking DB name in Visual studio

SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio errors

I had SQL Server 2005 installed on my system. Then I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 also.
Now when I open SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio I get two messages.
(1) You can import customized user settings from SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. Be aware that some default settings might be changed after you import your customized user settings. Do you want to import your customized user settings from SQL Server 2005 Management Studio
(2)There are SQL Server 2005 Management Studio registered services on this system. Do you want to add them into Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio? Adding The Server registration information has no effect on the servers themselves.
What I should answer to this messages? Yes or No? Please help. I am trying to install Sharepoint Server 2013 Server on my system. But there is an error when I ran Products configuration wizard.
Failed to create sample data. An exception of type
System.Null.Reference Exception was thrown.
Does the error in SQL server Management Studio have anything to do with this error?
1st Sql is warning you that you have prev users that are created in the old sql server 2005 instance.
And asking you if you wish to migrate those users to the new sql 2008 instance.
if you would like to login with the same users that you used to use in the old sql then press yes other wise neglect the dialog and create your new users in the new sql server.
