How to align WPF TabControl headers to right side? - wpf

I attached my control image . Here i need to align my Tab Control headers to align right side position in WPF.

Above code default tab control code in WPF with full template code. i tried Strip Option too it is also not work for me.
Guys you can understand my problem. So if any doubt means comment me.

Try adding HorizontalAlignment to your Dockpanel:
<DockPanel x:Name="headerPanel"
HorizontalAlignment="Right" <--here
Background="Transparent"
Grid.Column="0"
IsItemsHost="true"
Margin="2,2,2,0"
Grid.Row="0"
KeyboardNavigation.TabIndex="1"
Panel.ZIndex="1"/>

Single line TabPanel & button to show hidden tabs

I am having a tab control where the requirement is to have a single TabPanel and also have a button at the top right to show the hidden tabs.
I found one solution here .
As per the solution mentioned in this link, I updated the template and replaced the TabPanel with a ToolBar. This works fine for me.
But there is one problem. The tabs are not responding on click. If I click any of the tabs it does not get activated. I assume only updating the template is not all. May be I have to write some code to handle the click on the toolbar. Here is my xaml code
<Window.Resources>

I think it's not working because your ToolBar's ItemsSource is resolving to the 'tabData' string array, instead of resolving to the TabItems.
If you make this slight change, it works:
<Grid>
<!--<Grid.Resources>
<x:Array x:Key="tabData" Type="{x:Type sys:String}">
<sys:String>MyTab1</sys:String>
<sys:String>MyTab2</sys:String>
</x:Array>
</Grid.Resources>-->
<!--<TabControl ItemsSource="{StaticResource tabData}" Style="{DynamicResource TabControlStyle1}">-->
<TabControl Style="{DynamicResource TabControlStyle1}">
<TabItem Header="MyTab1">Content of Tab 1</TabItem>
<TabItem Header="MyTab2">Content of Tab 2</TabItem>
<TabControl.ItemContainerStyle>
<Style TargetType="{x:Type TabItem}">
<Style.Triggers>
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Mode=FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type TabControl}}, Path=Items.Count}" Value="1">
<Setter Property="Visibility" Value="Collapsed"/>
</DataTrigger>
</Style.Triggers>
</Style>
</TabControl.ItemContainerStyle>
</TabControl>
</Grid>

TabControl with single line TabPanel and Overflow Panel

I want to alter the functionality of the WPF TabControl to only spawn one line, and create a Overflow Popup for each further item (Like the ToolBar / ToolBarOverflowPanel). The same way tabs are shown in VisualStudio at the moment.
This is what i got:
<Style TargetType="TabControl">
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="TabControl">
<Grid KeyboardNavigation.TabNavigation="Local">
<Grid.RowDefinitions>
<RowDefinition Height="Auto" />
<RowDefinition Height="*" />
</Grid.RowDefinitions>
<controls:OneLineTabPanel x:Name="HeaderPanel"
Grid.Row="0"
Panel.ZIndex="1"
Margin="0"
KeyboardNavigation.TabIndex="1"
Background="Transparent">
</controls:OneLineTabPanel>
......
I did now try to alter the TabPanel (which is used to display the headers), but i can't change its template (as it derives from TabPanel). So I try to derive from some other control instead, but then i can not see any items at all.
How can i get my own ItemsControl to work with the TabControl?
You need to override the whole template of TabControl. Fortunately, it's easy to extract the copy of template using Visual Studio (right click in Document Outline window on TabControl element -> Edit Template -> Edit Copy).In default TabControl template HeaderPanel is defined in the following way:
<TabPanel x:Name="HeaderPanel" Grid.Column="0" IsItemsHost="true" Margin="2,2,2,0" Grid.Row="0" KeyboardNavigation.TabIndex="1" Panel.ZIndex="1"/>
The main idea is to bind TabControl.Items not to the Panel control by setting IsItemsHost="true", but to completely another control type.
For example, to bind to the ToolBar, which has out of the box overflow button feature:
<ToolBar x:Name="HeaderPanel" ItemsSource="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Items}"/>
Here is a full example of TabControl template with ToolBar as a header panel:
<TabControl>
<TabControl.Template>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type TabControl}">
<Grid ClipToBounds="true" SnapsToDevicePixels="true" KeyboardNavigation.TabNavigation="Local">
<Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
<ColumnDefinition x:Name="ColumnDefinition0"/>
<ColumnDefinition x:Name="ColumnDefinition1" Width="0"/>
</Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
<Grid.RowDefinitions>
<RowDefinition x:Name="RowDefinition0" Height="Auto"/>
<RowDefinition x:Name="RowDefinition1" Height="*"/>
</Grid.RowDefinitions>
<!--this will do the trick!!!-->
<ToolBar x:Name="HeaderPanel" ItemsSource="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Items}"/>
<Border x:Name="ContentPanel" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" Grid.Column="0" KeyboardNavigation.DirectionalNavigation="Contained" Grid.Row="1" KeyboardNavigation.TabIndex="2" KeyboardNavigation.TabNavigation="Local">
<ContentPresenter x:Name="PART_SelectedContentHost" ContentSource="SelectedContent" Margin="{TemplateBinding Padding}" SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}"/>
</Border>
</Grid>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="TabStripPlacement" Value="Bottom">
<Setter Property="Grid.Row" TargetName="HeaderPanel" Value="1"/>
<Setter Property="Grid.Row" TargetName="ContentPanel" Value="0"/>

How to hide the border line of a selected tab item after changing the height in WPF?

I want to set custom height for tab items in tab control.
This is the code I tried.
Here I am providing custom height value for tab item1. For other tab items i didn't provide any height value.
<Grid Name="grid1" Height="auto" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Background="Cyan">
<TabControl Name="tabControl1" Height="auto" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="0,0,0,0" IsEnabled="True" Background="White" SelectionChanged="tabControl1_SelectionChanged_1">
<TabControl.Resources>
<Style TargetType="TabItem">
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="TabItem">
<Border Name="Border" BorderThickness="1,1,1,0" BorderBrush="Black" CornerRadius="6,6,0,0" MinHeight="35" >
<ContentPresenter x:Name="ContentSite"
VerticalAlignment="Center"
HorizontalAlignment="Center"
ContentSource="Header"
Margin="20,10"
/>
</Border>
<ControlTemplate.Triggers>
<Trigger Property="IsSelected" Value="True">
<Setter TargetName="Border" Property="Background" Value="White" />
</Trigger>
<Trigger Property="IsSelected" Value="False">
<Setter TargetName="Border" Property="Background" Value="Cyan" />
</Trigger>
</ControlTemplate.Triggers>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
</TabControl.Resources>
<TabItem Header="HOME" Name="tabItem1">
<Grid />
</TabItem>
<TabItem Header="DATA ENTRY" Name="tabItem2" >
<Grid />
</TabItem>
<TabItem Header="MANIPULATION" Name="tabItem3" >
<Grid />
</TabItem>
<TabItem Header="REGISTER" Name="tabItem4" >
<Grid />
</TabItem>
<TabItem Header="ADMIN" Name="tabItem5" >
<Grid />
</TabItem>
</TabControl>
</Grid>
After running the software, when I click on tab item1, border line is produced under the tab where as in other tab items there is no line since I didn't provide custom height value
I tried searching in google, I couldn't find a correct solution.
How do I get rid of that border line after changing the height of tab item?
I am new to WPF, please help me.
Set the MinHeight rather than the Height. The tab control uses triggers to change the size when selected. By defining a height, it doesn't change the size like it wants to in order to appear as if it is removing the border. Unless you want to re-template the entire control, this is the quickest way that I can think of.
<TabControl Name="tabControl1" Height="auto" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="0,0,0,0" >
<TabControl.Resources>
<Style TargetType="TabItem">
<Setter Property="MinHeight" Value="35" />
</Style>
</TabControl.Resources>
<TabItem Header="HOME" Name="tabItem1" >
<Grid />
</TabItem>
<TabItem Header="DATA ENTRY" Name="tabItem2" >
<Grid />
</TabItem>
<TabItem Header="MANIPULATION" Name="tabItem3" >
<Grid />
</TabItem>
<TabItem Header="REGISTER" Name="tabItem4" >
<Grid />
</TabItem>
<TabItem Header="ADMIN" Name="tabItem5" >
<Grid />
</TabItem>
</TabControl>
[EDIT]
See below for a full-blown re-templating start point for you. I commented what I changed. The idea that I generally follow (be it good or bad) is when I begin to customize a control, if it is anything besides a basic change, I will create a custom template. If you have access to Expression Blend, you can easily get the base templates and modify from there. Below is the base template for the tabcontrol as well as the tab item. This helps keep the functionality you expect from the stock control and add your own flourish or design, etc. If the template is global, don't use style names, just define the type that it is applied to. In a real app, this style would be in a resource dictionary instead of the mainpage resources, but this serves the purpose of the example. Good luck! I hope this helps

You should go to the msdn site and get the default control template for the combobox. After that you use it in your project and change it depending on your needs. Here: ComboBox ControlTemplate Example
Either that or use Expression Blend
