In this PLUNK I have an Angular UI Modal and a button to close it. The button doesn't work because the Modal instance doesn't have a close method.
If you remove the rendered statement, the button works. Why doesn't it work WITH rendered?
This DOESN'T work:

In the first case, you are assigning the rendered promise to $scopemodalInstance, not the instance. It works if you do something like (Plunk):

alert("modal rendered")

Ah, just found the problem.
I changed this:
// Open nested modal
var modalScope = $scope.$new();
With this:
// Open nested modal
var modalScope = $rootScope.$new();
That way the nested modal does not rely on his parent.
The parent can die and the child will continue living
I'm trying to find out how to trigger .opened() for my modal. What I want to happen is, after all the data is loaded in my modal, I would like to .opened() to be triggered. I am aware that opened() is triggered when the modal is already opened, is there a way to change that, like maybe only trigger it after I have initialized the values in my controller?

I'm trying to push and pull the form data into the modal window when you click on the task. I have read that you can do this with the "resolve" property (seen below) of the modal but I have been unable to get it to actually work. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

You have to pass the scope you want to resolve (pass to the modal) in the resolve. and resolve it in the modal controller.

I wanted to define a custom scope for the modal (I don't want to use dependency injection for reasons) I am using in my project, but I'm getting an error whenever I define a scope in $modal.open. I tried debugging and saw that (modalOptions.scope || $rootScope) returns true with a custom scope and since true (obviously) doesn't have a $new() function defined, an exception is thrown.
