I've reformatted my machine around 3 times. I'm on windows 10 and I've selected the erase all apps and files option and I'm still not able to install sql server express 2016. I'm presented with this error when trying to install.
‘Microsoft.VC80.MFC,version=”8.0.50727.4053″,publicKeyToken=”1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b”,processorArchitecture=”x86″,type=”win32″‘. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736CC.
I've tried many many things. I've reformatted, I've tried running the file as admin, tried other versions such as stand edition 2012, tried to install the files while deleting 2010 c++ distribution. I've ran .net repair tool and nothing as well.
The problem stemmed when I manually uninstalled .net 4.5.1 framework using add/remove programs. I think my system files or registry is corrupted.
I think the error says, you have a 32 bit machine(processorArchitecture=”x86″) and you are trying to install 64 bit app ,which is not possible
further there is no 32 bit version of SQLSERVER from SQL2016 onwards
Some of you may have noticed that Microsoft recently released SQL Server 2016 CTP 2.4. There is one major change that I am very happy about – x86, or the 32-bit version, is no longer included. SQL Server 2016 is now 64-bit only
you can try downloading SQL2014 express version which comes in both versions..here is a link to download :Download SQL Server Express

I am currently trying to install SQL Server 2017 Enterprise on Windows Server 2016 Datacenter.
When the installation reaches "Install Setupfiles", the window freezes.
I have tried to install SQL Server 2016 Enterprise and SQL Server 2016 Developer, but no difference.
I also have installed .Net Framework 4.7 to meet the requirements of the setup, but nothing changed.
There is also no information from the setup, despite the fact that it skips downloading and extracting the installation files (which is fine, due to the fact that I downloaded a full ISO), but it also skips "installing installation files".
Did I forget any crucial software or setting ?
Did anyone face the same problem ?
Best regards,
I tried Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 at first, Its installation was going smoothly until I closed my computer to attend to an occasion. Before I tried installing it for a second time, I compressed my C drive(C:) so as to create more storage space. On Installing it again, It couldn't install as a dialog box displayed showing that my attributes doesn't match.
I uncompressed my C: drive and tried installing it again yet it couldn't install. Finally I tried for the last time just to see the image below.
What do I do? My computer is a 32bit OS. and window 7 Ultimate.
You should take a look at the Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2008, some conditions are:
SQL Server Setup will block installations on read-only or compressed drives.
For minimum version requirements to install SQL Server 2008 on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8, see Installing SQL Server on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562).
So please read it carefully, you can found it in the MSDN here
I'm getting the exact same error message as see in this blog post:
http://shawndowler.com/blog/2012/06/25/microsoft-sql-server-installation-issue-fix/
I ran the SQL Server 2012 setup exe (renamed it to setup.exe it was the expresss edition) as Admin from the command prompt specifying to install the updates prior which exists in my 'C:\Updates' and got the exact same error message as the blogger "An error occurred during the installation of an assembly"
Someone commented it resolved their issue for SQL 2012 in Windows 10 (I'm using express, they didnt specify which version).
Anyone else had issues with SQL 2012 or other installing on Windows 10 complaining about Microsoft.VC80.MCF or similar?
For Windows 10, you need at least SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 - RTM version isn't supported. For some reason, it is only mentioned in documentation regarding SQL Server 2014: Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server.
Hopefully, with Express edition you can download the correct version with SP already integrated into it. However, it might be wiser to install SP3 instead and save yourself some hassle in the future.
I've developed an application that uses SQL Server (in particular LocalDB), and, I have just pushed it out to the client.
The client runs Windows 8.1 x64, but, when I try to install either x86 or x64 version of SQL LocalDB direct from Microsoft, I keep getting this error:
Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express LocalDB
Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For information on supported configurations, see the product documentation.
I'm a little bit stuck here, and, quite confused as I am using LocalDB on my Windows 8.1 dev machine.
How can I resolve this?
Please right click the LocalDB setup file and check if it is configured with other compatibility mode. And make sure that you choose “Run as Administrator” to start the installation. There is also a similar thread for your reference, which may require you to reinstall the Windows to resolve the OS error.
SQL Server 2014 Express why not support Windows 8.1 Pro
I am using Visual Studio 2012 with SQL Server 2012 Data Tools installed. For some unexplained reason, my workstation will only run my SSIS code in 32 bit mode. Here is a dummy data flow I built for testing purposes:
Here are my settings:
It only runs DTSDebugHost.exe *32.
I am at my wits end trying to figure this one out. What do I do to figure out why it is not running just DTSDebugHost.exe (the 64 bit version)?
This happens because VS 2012 is checking to see if VS 2010 ULTIMATE is installed. It just looks for a registry entry.
Solution:
Open Regedit
Browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DevDiv\vs\Servicing\11.0\
Create a Key called premium
Create a Key called ultimate
Browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DevDiv\vs\Servicing\10.0\
Create a Key called premium
Create a Key called ultimate
Restart VS 2012.
Now it should work in 64-bit mode when you debug.
Ran into an almost identical problem and solution with SQL Server 2014 Enterprise, after installing SSDT-BI for VS 2013.
On a side note, I tried using the 64-bit debug host in SSDT-BI VS 2013 on two separate installs. One
where a full instance of SQL Server 2014 Enterprise was already
installed (with 64-bit debug host installed and verified) and another
where no previous SQL Server components had been installed at all. I
wanted to ensure that the "no debug with 64-bit runtime" issue was not
simply due to a missing 64-bit debug host or that the 64-bit host was
not installed as part of SSDT-BI for VS 2013 (It is not. It's part of
the full SQL Server itself, Integration Services (Shared Feature).
Per this thread on Social MSDN, adding the following registry key was what got the 64-bit debug host working for me:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DevDiv\vs\Servicing\11.0\professional
