Build performance for webpack 2 - reactjs

I need some help in improving my build times. I upgraded my webpack config file to version 2 but the build times are worse compared to before. It takes atleast 3min to complete the build.
Here's my webpack file

I am getting a strange issue on bundling webpack for production environment.

Problem
Like I said the problem is from debug which has been included by webpack in your built file (the node code part). That code looks like:
function save(namespaces) {
if (null == namespaces) {
delete {}.DEBUG;
} else {
{}.DEBUG = namespaces; // that is the invalid statement that `terser` complains about
}
}
// Plus, the main file `index.js` of `debug`:
if (typeof process !== 'undefined' && process.type === 'renderer') {
module.exports = require('./browser.js');
} else {
// Above code is from here
module.exports = require('./node.js');
}
Solution
Above code of debug for node has been added since you haven't yet told webpack you build for web app so then it won't include that code.
So as long as you set target as web in your configuration, then it would work:
webpack.common.js
module.exports = {
target: 'web',
// ...
}
One more thing I found that your css typeface-roboto you imported requires you set publicPath as output:
webpack.prod.js
module.exports = {
// ...
output: {
// ...
publicPath: '/',
},
}

How to import a library directly from master branch in react?

https://github.com/danielcaldas/react-d3-graph/issues/276
The question is related to above issue. I tried to update webpack as mentioned in the answers on github but i am constantly getting the same error. I am using create-react-app and typescript.
Module parse failed: Unexpected token (127:33)
You may need an appropriate loader to handle this file type, currently no loaders are configured to process this file. See https://webpack.js.org/concepts#loaders
| * #returns {Object} - Focus and zoom animation properties.
| */
> _generateFocusAnimationProps = () => {
| const { focusedNodeId } = this.state;
I also tried installing it directly via npm but it is not working and I am getting the same error.
Tried importing like
import { Graph } from "react-d3-graph/src/index";
import { Graph } from "react-d3-graph/src";
import { Graph } from "react-d3-graph";
does not work so I am pretty much sure that the issue is with web pack any help is appreciated.

Elaborating my comment. You could do this
Clone the repo to your local file system.
Run the repo's build commands to generate a build. You'll need to see the building instructions from the repo itself. Usually available in README.md or CONTRIBUTING.md.
Then, use either use npm link or npm install to reference the locally built package.

Partial fix >>
Steps:
1-npm install babel babel-cli --save-dev on the library
2-I add "transpile": "babel src/index.js --out-file src/index-transpiled.js"
in package.json scripts
3-yarn transpile
4-I moved the ES5 file to my code and it worked
Update - Full Fix
I included my src folder and the libraries to babel too
// Process JS with Babel.
{
test: /\.(js|jsx|mjs)$/,
include: [
/src\/*/,
/node_modules\/react-native-/,
],
loader: require.resolve('babel-loader'),
options: {
babelrc: false,
presets: [require.resolve('babel-preset-react-native')],
cacheDirectory: true
}
},
I think this is because of ES7 feature. Do you have stage-0 installed & added to your .babelrc or webpack.config.js file?
Here how you can do it:
npm i --save-dev babel-preset-stage-0
And then you should include it into webpack.config.js file like below:
loader: "babel-loader", // or just "babel"
query: {
presets: [ <other presets>, 'stage-0']
}
Or add it to .babelrc file:
{
"presets": ["stage-0"]
}
UPDATE
As I said earlier the issue belongs to ES7 feature. Seems like webpack can not resolve static keyword within react-native-web-linear-gradient module. So what I did to fix this issue:
I copied the source code from react-native-web-linear-gradient into my own component called LinearGradient. I didn't change anything within it.
I installed stage-0 and added it to .babelrc as i described above.
Later instead of using react-native-web-linear-gradient i use my LinearGradient component.
As a result i got gradient on my page. git project link.
Hope it will help!
This is how webpack can be configured to load assets, such as images (pngs, svgs, jpgs and so on):
npm install --save-dev file-loader
Add this in the webpack.config.js, under the module.exports.rules:
{
test: /\.(png|svg|jpg|gif)$/,
use: ["file-loader"]
}
Now, when you import MyImage from './my-image.png', that image will be processed and added to your output directory and the MyImage variable will contain the final url of that image after processing.

How do you configure Webpack to clear the React Warning for production minification?

I am sure everyone has seen this error but here it is again:
Warning: It looks like you're using a minified copy of the development build of React. When deploying React apps to production, make sure to use the production build which skips development warnings and is faster. See https://facebook.github.io/react/docs/optimizing-performance.html#use-the-production-build for more details.
So of course I followed the instructions in the link provided, yet though I have made all the necessary updates to my code, I am still getting this error.
According to some other answers I have seen on StackOverflow and Github, the process.env.NODE_ENV being set to production through the Webpack plugin DefinePlugin tells React to build using the minified version. So I logged process.env.NODE_ENV in my main application component and it is in fact being set to production by the plugin and still I am getting the warning.
So even though the environment variable is being set to production, I am getting the warning and my React Dev Tools says:
This page is using the development build of React. 🚧
Note that the development build is not suitable for production.
Make sure to use the production build before deployment.
I cannot seem to isolate where the problem might be here since I have done all the necessary changes to get the production build to work.

After stumbling around the interweb for some different ways to configure webpack to overcome this problem I found a configuration option in the UglifyJsPlugin that cleared the error.
plugins: [
new webpack.optimize.UglifyJsPlugin({
include: /\.min\.js$/, <------This option fixed it
})
]
All though this cleared the warning in the console, I am still seeing my React Dev Tools saying that it is not using the production version.
I've had the same problem, but it doesn't seem to be a problem with webpack- it's likely something to do with Gulp. Have you tried running webpack with the config directly from the command line (i.e. webpack --config webpack-build.config.js or whatever) ? That produced a build without the warning quite happily. Here's my webpack config, cobbled together from various sources:
const path = require('path')
const webpack = require('webpack')
module.exports = {
devtool: 'cheap-module-source-map',
entry: './src/scripts/app',

If I track down what's going on with gulp + webpack I'll write an update.

Can't get React Hot Loader to work

I am trying to config react-hot-loader into my app. It's built on webpack 2, webpack-dev-middleware, browser-sync, express and doing server side rendering.
Here's my webpack.config

import fs from 'fs'

To hot load reducers, I have changed my code like this,
const configureStore = (initialState = {}) => {
const store = createStore(
// storage.reducer is what merges storage state into redux state
storage.reducer(rootReducer),
inflateDecorators(initialState),
applyMiddleware(...middleware)
)
if (module.hot) {
module.hot.accept('./reducers', () => {
const nextRootReducer = require('./reducers')
store.replaceReducer(nextRootReducer)
})
}
return store
}
We have multiple bundles, so there is common function to handle the entry logic,
import 'babel-polyfill'
import React from 'react'
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom'
import FastClick from 'fastclick'
import { Provider } from 'react-redux'
import { setUrl } from 'actions'
import Location from '../../libs/Location'
import configureStore, { loadFromLocalStorage } from '../../configureStore'
import { AppContainer } from 'react-hot-loader'
const initialState = window.__INITIAL_STATE__
const store = configureStore(initialState)
function runner (createBody) {
return function () {
// Make taps on links and buttons work fast on mobiles
FastClick.attach(document.body)
const component = (
<AppContainer>
<Provider store={store}>
{createBody()}
</Provider>
</AppContainer>
)
if (!initialState) {
store.dispatch(setUrl(`${Location.location.pathname}${Location.location.search}`))
}
Location.listen((location) => {
store.dispatch(setUrl(`${location.pathname}${location.search}`))
})
ReactDOM.render(component, document.getElementById('app'))
// only apply stored state after first render
// this allows serverside and clientside rendering to agree on initial state
loadFromLocalStorage(store)
}
}
export default function run (createBody) {
if (['complete', 'loaded', 'interactive'].includes(document.readyState) && document.body) {
runner(createBody)()
} else {
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', runner(createBody), false)
}
}
This is one of the bundles entry point where the above common function is called,
import run from '../util/run'
import createBody from './body'
run(createBody)
if (module.hot) {
module.hot.accept('./body', () => run(createBody))
}
Not sure what I am missing still, I tried to follow a few blog post and react hot loader docs but I couldn't get it to working.
Thought it would be helpful for people who have similar kind of setup, even in webpack 2 for react hot loader to work your entry point code should be something like this,
if (module.hot) {
module.hot.accept('./body', () => {
const body = require('./body').default
run(body)
})
}
As I am using extract-text-webpack-plugin it is not possible to hot reload css changes. As I am already using browser-sync, the simple work around is to use write-file-webpack-plugin to write the css files out and let browser-sync listen to the changes.
