I'm writing an small key application and I'm using a listbox to dynamically visualise a list from code. Now the issue is it needs to be used on windows 7 and I'm having multiple issues with the visualisation on that platform.
The code I have is:

I guess you want to remove the selection state of ListBoxItem, if thats right, Please use the below style,
in this i have commented out the triggers responsible for selection and mouse over state.

Why don't you remove the selection upon happening? Like this:

however, when I run it I get the columns, but in the items list it just gives 'TestApp.SampleObject' readout for each item, and not even in each column, just once for each. If I remove the item container style it works as it should.
So I generated this style by going into Blend, creating a ListViewItem, and editing a copy of the template. However it turns out the template is different if it's inside a GridView than if it isn't... I had to create a ListView with a GridView, THEN a ListViewItem inside it and then edit that style. Here is the revised style that works:

The template of combo box says that its background is transparent, just add a panel/grid behind it and change the color of panel/grid to desired color, it will change to that color.
You will have to create a grid, set its background color, bring it over the combo box control, set its height and width to match with combo box, and right click the combo box, go to order, select bring to front.
This will do the trick.

I have some extra space around my Listbox. It's 1px wide, but I don't know where it comes from...
I set the padding, margin and BorderThickness of both, the ListBox and the ListboxItem to 0.

Notice the Padding="1" on Border named Bd. Since this is harcoded and not template bound, you can either retemplate the ListBox and set the padding to 0, or since Padding on the ScollViewer has a TemplateBinding to the Padding of the ListBox, you can set the Padding on your ListBox to -1 to offset the padding on the border.

Can someone tell me how I can template a treeview control so that it doesn't look like a tree? Basically, I want to remove the indents at various levels as well as the +/- that allow for expansion and collapse.
The actual requirement is that I have a hierarchical data template that is bound to an object collection that is recursive in nature. And I want to display these objects on screen in a flat manner. The best solution would be to get the hierarchical data template to work with an itemscontrol. But sadly, i believe that the itemscontrol does not understand hierarchical templates. So I am forced to use a treeview control and strip all the "tree" features.
Any suggestions will be mighty helpful..
You need to modify the TreeViewItem's template. I already did it for you, just copy/paste code below in your Window. Although I extremely recommend you study ControlTemplates and how to modify them since if you're gonna be using WPF. It's EXTREMELY useful.

You could probably do this with a template, but if the data doesn't need to be in a hierarchy then it makes more sense to flatten it in the ViewModel - possibly using AutoMapper.
If I set TreeViewItem Background it highlights the header only. How can I highlight the whole line?

2. The tree has XP style on Vista. I whould like it to looks the same way on Vista as it was, but if user changed the theme to XP - it should be XP way.

TreeViewItem Header won't stretch?
This problem occurs because WPF's default template for TreeViewItem is set up as a 3-column by 2-row Grid. The first row is for the "header" (actually a Border), and the second row is for the ItemsPresenter. The two rows are made visible or hidden as necessary, in order to accomplish the tree expansion when you click the little triangle--which occupies column zero of the Grid.
Both rows really only need one additional column. For example, in the second row, we must have nothing at col-0, row-1, because that blank part should be indented when IsExpanded is true. But the mystery begins when we note that the ItemsPresenter, based in col-1, row-1, specifies Grid.ColumnSpan=2.
Unfortunately in the top row, the Border which holds the header is set to Grid.Column=1... but no ColumnSpan. Since the col-2 of the Grid has Width=* this means the header/border won't stretch horizontally.
In other words, I seems like the 3-column grid design has no purpose except to specifically to prevent the header from stretching. As far as I can tell, a simple 2x2 arrangement would be more flexible [edit: see footnote #2], and support either full-stretching or the 'jagged' header non-stretching, via the regular WPF alignment mechanisms.
Ideally, we'd change the Grid to have only 2 columns instead of 3. Since that's not so easy, instead we'll make the header span 2 columns, just like the ItemsPresenter does.

If you run this program as shown you will see something like this. This is the altered (modified) behavior, which allows you to regain full control over the stretching behavior of the TreeViewItem header:
Notice the BEGIN/END part with the dotted lines in the XAML source. Basically, I just set Grid.ColumnSpan=2 on the offending Border, so that it will fill the stretched width of the Grid. That element is emitted by the TreeViewItem template, so I found that an effective way to alter its properties is via a targeting Style in the resource dictionary of the TreeViewItem's Style. Yes, confusing. That Style is accessed via TreeViewItem.ItemContainerStyle.
To see the (existing) broken behavior, you can comment out the part between the dotted lines:
You can also set these styles in some resource dictionary, rather than using the ItemContainerStyle property as I did here. I did it this way because it minimizes the scope of the fix, so that unrelated Border controls won't be affected. If you do need a more discriminative way to target just this control, you might be able to take advantage of the fact that it has Name='Bd'.
[edit:] This solution does not use reflection! Don't be scared by the meaningless demo data--it has nothing to do with this issue; it was just the easiest way to grab some hierarchical data for demonstration purposes, while keeping the entire program tiny.
[edit #2:] I just realized that what the designers were trying to avoid with the 3x2 grid arrangement was the following unsightly effect (exaggerated here by a zoomed-out screenshot). So if you adopt one of the solutions from this page, be forewarned that you might not want this:

Source of the problem when use TreeView with ItemsSource is , refered from link text, I have changed some code of TreeViewItemExtensions class:

Just nest the triggers within the Control Template. Colours/padding/design will need to be tweaked to suit your own needs but the above should be a very basic idea on a XAML only foundation.
I managed this by copying the ItemContainerStyle out using blend, giving a name to the grid that the item is placed in and then setting the background of the grid.
