Now I know that the above works, but what I need is it to display nothing unless an app is selected first and THEN after that when an app or a date is changed, the code must re-run.
Perhaps this isn't possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
**Context:
What happens is I get a UI grid returned with no data(as no app has been selected) until I eventually select an app.

I am using the angular-ui-swiper and I want to set the active slide depending on the URL-Parameter. I have an angular controller, where the data is loaded for the swiper. This works fine, the buttons are working (prev, next). I call the method slideTo to set the activeslider after link click in the navigation. But it is not working if I load the page with the special parameter. The swiper-instance is not defined. So I have to call the correct page lifecycle event. I used the load, init-events, an equivalent to document ready, but without any success. It is only working if I put my setActiveSlide-Method to the scroll-event :D
Do you have any idea?

I have a complicated setup. My application is driven by a set of "rules" which dictate what the user interface is. The UI is rendered by looping through the rules and creating the individual dropdowns. Initially, everything renders properly. However, once a user makes a change to the UI, other rules may be affected. In my application, an api call is made, which then returns a modified set of rules. In the attached plunker, I've simplified things such that only the new set of rules is applied, which causes the page to re-render. The problem is that my users would like to be able to tab between all of the entries on the page and make changes. However, once the page is re-rendered, the currently selected page element is now gone nothing has the focus. I've tried to put the focus back on the proper element by tracking a common Id, but to no avail.
Using either of these doesn't seem to work.

I've also tried using the autofocus attribute on the dropdown that I want to have focus, but that didn't work either. I'm using angularjs 1.2. Any ideas are appreciated.

If you want to assign auto focus dynamically to a element on the DOM from angular you can use this:
var myEl = angular.element(document.querySelector('select'));
myEl.attr('autofocus',"attr val");
You can also pass in an id like: angular.element(document.querySelector('#focusId'));

Problem here is, you are trying to focus the element before the blur event completes. So you need to execute the focus code after blur event. Async execution of your focus code would solve the problem. You can use either setTimeout or $timeout.

I am attempting to use $mdToast.updateTextContent() to update a toast and am unsuccessful. The docs don't go into detail on how to call it with a new message. My desire result would have the first toast display 'Adding account' then change to 'account successfully added'. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I think the correct way to approach this using material design standards would be to only use the toast once the account has been added. The loading could be a spinner or maybe a loading bar (maybe like this http://materializecss.com/preloader.html)
Once the $mdToast is open, you're able to call updateTextContent (as you stated)

I'm using angular chosen with angularstrap and i'm having problems with the initial value of the selector to be selected. The way i got it to work is i set a Timeout on the model attached to the selector to wait for the dom and then set the model value. So my guess is that chosen needs to wait for the dom to be created before it can initialize the selected option.

in my opinion this timeout solution is not a good one and i would like to find a better way to set the model after the dom has been created.
This is because chosen directive is calling trigger("chosen:updated") before the DOM is actually loaded. A fix would be adding $timeout() to the $watchCollection trigger.
This has been discussed and looks like the solution is here in the answer from kirliam.
Someone should issue a pull request for this issue.

Given something like this:

I can see currentView in the docs but this only seems to apply at initialisation. Once a view is shown can I query the region to see the view? Either the view instance or type would be helpful. Looking in Chrome's debugger I can't see any properties/methods on the region that would help.
The motive for wanting to do this is so I don't show a static item view in a region again if it is already displayed as this can (especially if images are involved) cause a slight flickering effect on the screen.

you can add a condition before calling show method:
if (myLayout.region.currentView != myView)
myLayout.region.show(myView)
so if you'll try to call show with the same View it wont be shown.
if you want to call region.show(myView) once you can check in this way:
if (_.isUndefined(myLayout.region.currentView))
myLayout.region.show(myView)
You can check the isClosed and $el attributes of the view. Something like
if (myView.isClosed || _.isUndefined(myView.$el)) {
myLayout.region.show(myView);

This is the same way the region checks to see if the view is closed or not:

I'm going out on a limb here and assuming that the OP's question is based on app behavior when navigating to different parts of the app via an anchor tag in the navigation or something similar.
This is how I found the question and I thought briefly that the answers would save my day. Although both answers so far are correct they do not quite solve the problem I was having. I wanted to display a persistent navigation bar. However, I did not want it to display on the login page. I was hopeful that detecting if a Region was already shown or not I'd be able to properly let the display logic take care of this.
As it turns out we were both on the right track to implement Regions as this provides granular control, but even after implementing the above I found that my nav bar would still "flicker" and essentially completely reload itself.
The answer is actually a bit ridiculous. Somehow in all the Backbone tutorials and research I've been doing the last two weeks I never came across the need to implement a javascript interface to interrupt normal link behavior. Whenever a navigation item was clicked the entire app was reloading. The routing was functioning so the content was correct, but the flicker was maddening.
I added the following to my app.js file right after the Backbone.history.start({pushState: true}); code:

Disclaimer: I am very new to Backbone and the fact that the above was such a revelation for me makes me think that I may be doing something wrong elsewhere and this behavior should already exist in Backbone. If I've made a giant error here please comment and help me correct it.
