setting proxy or backend URL while doing gulp build:dist - angularjs

We have some code in Angular JS which is build using gulp (babel).
We have necessity to redirect the api service calls to a different server.
Hence, which development we run gulp server and with that add the api-host server in the proxy argument while running gulp server, as follows:
gulp serve:dist --mock no --proxy http://<host-name>:8090
Now, after development, we build and distribute the same bundle to different host (not the same host where the api services are hosted). Now we are not able to connect to the api server. The command we use to build is
gulp build:dist --mock no
Even if we add the proxy argument here, it doesn't works.
gulp build:dist --mock no --proxy http://<host-name>:8090
We tried customizing the "gulpfile.babel.js" file. but no result.
The following is the "gulpfile.babel.js" used:
'use strict';
var gulp = require('gulp');

You can use gulp-ng-config to add constant in you app module.
Or you a JSON as a config file inside your gulp:
//Gulp file
var fs = require('fs');
var settings = JSON.parse(fs.readFileSync('./config/config.json', 'utf8'));
....
gulp.task('statics', g.serve({
port: settings.frontend.ports.development,
...
}));
gulp.task('production', g.serve({
port: settings.frontend.ports.production,
root: ['./dist'],
...
}));

How to eliminate dead code elimination in React using only Gulp and Browserify?

I try to build my React project with gulpfile.js in production mode so the query developer tools show green color in browser tab. However, it still failed with dead code elimination error, which means development version is still detected in react developer tools.
I have already tried many ways to eliminate this error. One of the closest solution is to add 'unreachable-branch-transform' and gulpif argv in browserify part in gulpfile.js. Please check gulpfile.js content below.
var gulp = require('gulp');
var imagemin = require('gulp-imagemin');
var clean = require('gulp-clean');

My React project is only using gulp and browserify inside gulpfile.js, so this project doesn't use any build tools listed in documentation link below (grunt, webpack, browserify (standalone),rollup).
https://reactjs.org/docs/optimizing-performance.html
Do you have any suggestion how to eliminate dead code elimination, but only by using gulp and browserify inside it ? Thanks in advance.

I just run into the same problem while upgrading to gulp 4.
The depending tasks have to be specified as series or in parallel, just the name is not enough anymore.
Example
gulp.task('copy', ['sass-min'], function() {
Becomes
gulp.task('copy', gulp.series('sass-min'), function() {
gulp.parallel can also be used to execute the tasks in parallel
I had this exact problem with Gulp and it turns out that you must do away with tasks like that.
You must define your tasks as simple functions and then use your functions to define a task with gulp.series() or gulp.parallel().
I don't use this on Angular, but here's my gulpfile:
const bsync = require('browser-sync');
const gulp = require('gulp');
const autoprefixer = require('gulp-autoprefixer');
const sass = require('gulp-sass');
function sync(done) {
bsync.init({
files: [
'*.html',
'assets/css/**/*.css',
'assets/js/**/*.js'
],
host: '0.0.0.0',
server: './',
port: 8080,
reloadDelay: 1000,
ghostMode: false,
notify: false
});
done();
}
function styles() {
return gulp.src('./assets/scss/**/*.scss')
.pipe(sass({ outputStyle: 'expanded' }).on('error', sass.logError))
.pipe(autoprefixer({ remove: false }))
.pipe(gulp.dest('./assets/css'))
.pipe(bsync.stream());
}
function watchFiles() {
gulp.watch('./assets/scss/**/*.scss', styles);
}
gulp.task('start', gulp.series(sync, styles, watchFiles));
I've got inspired by this example. Hope it helps.

Prevent gulp to minify code on local machine

I started a project with [RDash angular dashboard][1] which using gulp.
this is the first time I work with gulp and the problem is that while I'm working locally I can't debug because it minify css/js/html files.
How can I prevent from gulp to minify while working locally?
Here is what I have on gulpfile.js:
var gulp = require('gulp'),
usemin = require('gulp-usemin'),
wrap = require('gulp-wrap'),
connect = require('gulp-connect'),
watch = require('gulp-watch'),
minifyCss = require('gulp-minify-css'),
minifyJs = require('gulp-uglify'),
concat = require('gulp-concat'),
less = require('gulp-less'),
rename = require('gulp-rename'),
minifyHTML = require('gulp-minify-html');
var paths = {
scripts: 'src/js/**/*.*',
styles: 'src/less/**/*.*',
images: 'src/img/**/*.*',
templates: 'src/templates/**/*.html',
index: 'src/index.html',
bower_fonts: 'src/components/**/*.{ttf,woff,eof,svg}',
};
/**
* Handle bower components from index
*/
gulp.task('usemin', function() {
return gulp.src(paths.index)
.pipe(usemin({
js: [minifyJs(), 'concat'],
css: [minifyCss({keepSpecialComments: 0}), 'concat'],
}))
.pipe(gulp.dest('dist/'));
});
/**
* Copy assets
*/
gulp.task('build-assets', ['copy-bower_fonts']);
gulp.task('copy-bower_fonts', function() {
return gulp.src(paths.bower_fonts)
.pipe(rename({
dirname: '/fonts'
}))
.pipe(gulp.dest('dist/lib'));
});
/**
* Handle custom files
*/
gulp.task('build-custom', ['custom-images', 'custom-js', 'custom-less', 'custom-templates']);
gulp.task('custom-images', function() {
return gulp.src(paths.images)
.pipe(gulp.dest('dist/img'));
});
gulp.task('custom-js', function() {
return gulp.src(paths.scripts)
.pipe(minifyJs())
.pipe(concat('dashboard.min.js'))
.pipe(gulp.dest('dist/js'));
});
gulp.task('custom-less', function() {
return gulp.src(paths.styles)
.pipe(less())
.pipe(gulp.dest('dist/css'));
});
gulp.task('custom-templates', function() {
return gulp.src(paths.templates)
.pipe(minifyHTML())
.pipe(gulp.dest('dist/templates'));
});
/**
* Watch custom files
*/
gulp.task('watch', function() {
gulp.watch([paths.images], ['custom-images']);
gulp.watch([paths.styles], ['custom-less']);
gulp.watch([paths.scripts], ['custom-js']);
gulp.watch([paths.templates], ['custom-templates']);
gulp.watch([paths.index], ['usemin']);
});
/**
* Live reload server
*/
gulp.task('webserver', function() {
connect.server({
root: 'dist',
livereload: true,
port: 8888
});
});
gulp.task('livereload', function() {
gulp.src(['dist/**/*.*'])
.pipe(watch())
.pipe(connect.reload());
});
/**
* Gulp tasks
*/
gulp.task('build', ['usemin', 'build-assets', 'build-custom']);
gulp.task('default', ['build', 'webserver', 'livereload', 'watch']);
You should add gulp-minify and use it as follows:
var minify = require('gulp-minify');
gulp.task('compress', function() {
gulp.src('lib/*.js')
.pipe(minify({
exclude: ['tasks'],
ignoreFiles: ['.combo.js', '-min.js']
}))
.pipe(gulp.dest('dist'))
});
Pass the files that you dont want to minify to the exclude.
In your code, you have specified that you want to minify all of the files here:
gulp.task('usemin', function() {
return gulp.src(paths.index)
.pipe(usemin({
js: [minifyJs(), 'concat'],
css: [minifyCss({keepSpecialComments: 0}), 'concat'],
}))
.pipe(gulp.dest('dist/'));
});
In line
.pipe(usemin({..})
Just dont use this usemin task, and you should be fine

Copy angular-ui-grid fonts into .tmp/fonts

I was experiencing a known issue with Angular UI Grid where some of my fonts would look Korean in production.
I applied a certain fix by adding the following CSS:
#font-face {
font-family: 'ui-grid';
src: url('../fonts/ui-grid.eot');
src: url('../fonts/ui-grid.eot#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), url('../fonts/ui-grid.woff') format('woff'), url('../fonts/ui-grid.ttf?') format('truetype'), url('../fonts/ui-grid.svg?#ui-grid') format('svg');
font-weight: normal;
font-style: normal;
}
This fixed the problem in production, but now in development I get these errors in the browser console:
GET http://localhost:9000/fonts/ui-grid.woff
GET http://localhost:9000/fonts/ui-grid.ttf? 404 (Not Found)
I'm using Gulp as my build tool. I can get the errors to go away by adding a fonts directory to .tmp/serve and manually copying bower_components/angular-ui-grid/ui-grid.* there, but this of course isn't an acceptable permanent solution.
My Gulp configuration already copies my font files to public/fonts in production. How can I achieve something similar in development?
Here's my gulp/build.js. I'm a Gulp novice.
'use strict';
var gulp = require('gulp');
var $ = require('gulp-load-plugins')({
pattern: ['gulp-*', 'main-bower-files', 'uglify-save-license', 'del']
});
module.exports = function(options) {
gulp.task('partials', ['markups'], function () {
return gulp.src([
options.src + '/{app,components}/**/*.html',
options.tmp + '/serve/{app,components}/**/*.html'
])
.pipe($.minifyHtml({
empty: true,
spare: true,
quotes: true
}))
.pipe($.angularTemplatecache('templateCacheHtml.js', {
module: 'freightVerify'
}))
.pipe(gulp.dest(options.tmp + '/partials/'));
});
gulp.task('html', ['inject', 'partials'], function () {
var partialsInjectFile = gulp.src(options.tmp + '/partials/templateCacheHtml.js', { read: false });
var partialsInjectOptions = {
starttag: '<!-- inject:partials -->',
ignorePath: options.tmp + '/partials',
addRootSlash: false
};
var htmlFilter = $.filter('*.html');
var jsFilter = $.filter('**/*.js');
var cssFilter = $.filter('**/*.css');
var assets;
return gulp.src(options.tmp + '/serve/*.html')
.pipe($.inject(partialsInjectFile, partialsInjectOptions))
.pipe(assets = $.useref.assets())
.pipe($.rev())
.pipe(jsFilter)
.pipe($.ngAnnotate())
.pipe($.uglify({ preserveComments: $.uglifySaveLicense })).on('error', options.errorHandler('Uglify'))
.pipe(jsFilter.restore())
.pipe(cssFilter)
.pipe($.replace('../../bower_components/bootstrap-sass-official/assets/fonts/bootstrap/', '../fonts/'))
.pipe($.csso())
.pipe(cssFilter.restore())
.pipe(assets.restore())
.pipe($.useref())
.pipe($.revReplace())
.pipe(htmlFilter)
.pipe($.minifyHtml({
empty: true,
spare: true,
quotes: true,
conditionals: true
}))
.pipe(htmlFilter.restore())
.pipe(gulp.dest(options.dist + '/'))
.pipe($.size({ title: options.dist + '/', showFiles: true }));
});
// Only applies for fonts from bower dependencies
// Custom fonts are handled by the "other" task
gulp.task('fonts', function () {
return gulp.src($.mainBowerFiles())
.pipe($.filter('**/*.{eot,svg,ttf,woff,woff2}'))
.pipe($.flatten())
.pipe(gulp.dest(options.dist + '/fonts/'));
});
gulp.task('other', function () {
return gulp.src([
options.src + '/**/*',
'!' + options.src + '/**/*.{html,css,js,scss,jade}'
])
.pipe(gulp.dest(options.dist + '/'));
});
gulp.task('clean', function (done) {
$.del([options.dist + '/', options.tmp + '/'], done);
});
gulp.task('config', function() {
gulp.src(options.src + '/app/config/config.json')
.pipe($.ngConfig('freightVerify', {
wrap: '(function () {\n\'use strict\';\n/*jshint ignore:start*/\n return <%= module %> /*jshint ignore:end*/\n})();',
createModule: false,
environment: process.env.NODE_ENV || 'development'
}))
.pipe(gulp.dest(options.src + '/app/config'));
});
gulp.task('build', ['config', 'html', 'fonts', 'other']);
};
And here's the gulpfile itself, if it helps:
'use strict';
var gulp = require('gulp');
var gutil = require('gulp-util');
var _ = require('lodash');
var wrench = require('wrench');
var options = {
src: 'src',
dist: '../public',
tmp: '.tmp',
e2e: 'e2e',
errorHandler: function(title) {
return function(err) {
gutil.log(gutil.colors.red('[' + title + ']'), err.toString());
this.emit('end');
};
}
};
wrench.readdirSyncRecursive('./gulp').filter(function(file) {
return (/\.(js|coffee)$/i).test(file);
}).map(function(file) {
require('./gulp/' + file)(options);
});
gulp.task('default', ['clean'], function() {
gulp.start('build');
});
gulp.task('heroku:production', function() {
gulp.start('build');
})
I came up while a solution that works, although it's not very DRY. I hope someone else suggests a better solution.
// This is the original fonts task
gulp.task('fonts', function () {
return gulp.src($.mainBowerFiles())
.pipe($.filter('**/*.{eot,svg,ttf,woff,woff2}'))
.pipe($.flatten())
.pipe(gulp.dest(options.dist + '/fonts/'));
});
// This is my new task, only slightly different
gulp.task('fonts:dev', function () {
return gulp.src($.mainBowerFiles())
.pipe($.filter('**/*.{eot,svg,ttf,woff,woff2}'))
.pipe($.flatten())
.pipe(gulp.dest(options.tmp + '/serve/fonts/'));
});
I added the fonts:dev task as shown above, and I added it as a dep to my serve task.
