React webpack create bundle with separated react - reactjs

is possible to configure webpack to not compile react inside bundle file? I would like to have more react applications in one page and I would like to load react library only once to get smallest size. How to achieve this?

In same situation I created final bundle with all small "applications" + React bundled once.
// components/index.js (webpacks entry point)
require("expose?React!react");
require("expose?MarketProductListing!./MarketProductListing");
require("expose?ProductDetail!./ProductDetail");
require("expose?MarketSearch!./MarketSearch");
Then, I include bundled JS via <script/> tag.
<script src="js/components.bundle.js"></script>
Now, I can access React, MarketProductListing, ... components in JS and render them where needed.
As you see, I use expose-loader for Webpack.
Webpack config
var path = require('path');
var webpack = require('webpack');
const js_dir = path.join(__dirname, 'src');
module.exports = {
devtool: 'eval',
entry: {
components: path.join(js_dir, 'components'),
},
output: {
path: js_dir,
filename: '[name].bundle.js'
},
plugins: [
new webpack.ProvidePlugin({
'es6-promise': 'es6-promise',
'fetch': 'imports?this=>global!exports?global.fetch!whatwg-fetch'
})
],
module: {
loaders: [
{ test: /\.js$/, loaders: ['babel'] }
]
},
resolve: {
extensions: ['', '.js', '.json']
}
};

How can I use webpack to build a package that I can use in another react app

My organization has a custom build datatable that is built with React, compiled and used in several other applications. One of those other applications is itself a React app. We recently updated our larger react app so that we're using the latest builds on several npm packages, and the datatable build stopped working within react. I decided to try building the datatable in webpack the same way to get them working again, but I can't seem to produce a file that builds the datatable react into something I can import as a local package.
Here's the webpack.config.js I'm using to build the datatable. Any advice would be very welcome.
const path = require('path');
const nodeExternals = require('webpack-node-externals');
module.exports = [
{
entry: './src/react/datatable/datatable-component.jsx',
externals: [nodeExternals()],
name: 'datatable-react',
output: {
path: path.resolve(__dirname, './dist/assets/js/datatable'),
filename: 'datatable.js',
chunkFilename: '[id].js',
publicPath: ''
},
mode: 'production',
resolve: {
extensions: ['.js', '.jsx']
},
module: {
rules: [
{
test: /\.(js|jsx)$/,
loader: 'babel-loader',
exclude: /node_modules/
}
]
}
},
];

Webpack: Can I get a source map for after babel, before minification?

I have a fairly basic webpack setup that runs babel and out comes my minified js with a source map.
Now when I run my source map in chrome I get the js before babel and before minification. However I would often like to have my source map after babel but before minification. Is this possible?
TL;DR I want source map to post-babel pre-minifcation. Possible?
For completeness
I run babel-loader 8 with webpack 4
Here is a screenshot from chrome showing the problem. As you can see the Dropzone tag indicates this is jsx (and so before babel)
Secondly here is my webpack config (not that it actually matters for my question).
const path = require('path');
module.exports = {
context: path.join(__dirname, 'Scripts', 'react'),
entry: {
client: './client'
},
output: {
path: path.join(__dirname, 'Scripts', 'app'),
filename: '[name].bundle.min.js'
},
module: {
rules: [
{
test: /\.jsx?$/,
exclude: /node_modules/,
use: {
loader: 'babel-loader',
options: {
plugins: [require('#babel/plugin-proposal-object-rest-spread')],
presets: ["#babel/es2015", "#babel/react", "#babel/stage-0"]
}
}
}
]
},
resolve: {
extensions: ['.js', '.jsx']
},
externals: {
// Use external version of React (from CDN for client-side, or
// bundled with ReactJS.NET for server-side)
react: 'React'
},
devtool: 'source-map'
};
Running webpack with -d gives a second set of source maps in chrome that does the trick.

Webpack bundle JS without React or React Dom

I'd like to use webpack to bundle my JS together for a React component but without including React or React Dom, just my own React code.
The idea is so that I can load React or React Dom separately on the webpage with RequireJS as I'm adding the component to Magento2 which uses this approach for adding JS dependencies. My thought being that if I add another component this way, I don't want to be adding the React Libraries twice.
I think I need to use a different babel loader or pass in some other options?
Here is my webpack.config
const path = require('path');
const autoprefixer = require('autoprefixer');
const webpack = require('webpack');
module.exports = {
devtool: 'cheap-module-source-map',
entry: './src/index.js',
output: {
path: path.resolve(__dirname, 'web'),
filename: 'js/react-component.js',
publicPath: ''
},
resolve: {
extensions: ['.js', '.jsx']
},
module: {
rules: [
{
test: /\.js$/,
exclude: /node_modules/,
loader: 'babel-loader'
}
]
},
plugins: [
new webpack.optimize.UglifyJsPlugin()
]
}
It works but as I said it includes the full react libraries in the generated js/react-component.js file. Any advice how I can do this?
As #Aaqib pointed out I needed to add this config options to webpack.
externals : {
react: 'react',
reactDom: 'react-dom'
}

The following modules couldn't be hot updated: (Full reload needed)

I'm trying to setup hot module reloading in a react/typescript (with TSX) environment. I have used the react/redux real-world example as a model in getting things going, and this is what I have so far:
server.js
var webpack = require('webpack')
var webpackDevMiddleware = require('webpack-dev-middleware')
var webpackHotMiddleware = require('webpack-hot-middleware')
var config = require('./webpack.config')
var app = new (require('express'))()
var port = 3000
var compiler = webpack(config)
app.use(webpackDevMiddleware(compiler, { noInfo: true, publicPath: config.output.publicPath }))
app.use(webpackHotMiddleware(compiler))
app.use(function(req, res) {
res.sendFile(__dirname + '/index.html')
})
app.listen(port, function(error) {
if (error) {
console.error(error)
} else {
console.info("==> 🌎 Listening on port %s. Open up http://localhost:%s/ in your browser.", port, port)
}
})
webpack.config.js
var path = require('path')
var webpack = require('webpack')
var HtmlWebpackPlugin = require('html-webpack-plugin');
module.exports = {
devtool: 'cheap-module-eval-source-map',
entry: [
'webpack-hot-middleware/client',
path.resolve('./src/index.tsx'),
],
output: {
path: path.join(__dirname, 'dist'),
filename: 'bundle.js'
},
plugins: [
new webpack.optimize.OccurrenceOrderPlugin(),
new webpack.HotModuleReplacementPlugin(),
new HtmlWebpackPlugin({ template: './index.html' })
],
module: {
loaders: [
{ test: /\.tsx?$/, loader: 'ts-loader' }
]
},
resolve: {
extensions: ['', '.ts', '.tsx', '.js', '.json']
},
}
index.tsx
import * as React from 'react';
import { render } from 'react-dom';
import Root from './containers/root';
render(
<Root />,
document.getElementById('root')
);
containers/root.tsx
import * as React from 'react';
export default class Root extends React.Component<void, void> {
render(): JSX.Element {
return (
<p>boom pow</p>
);
}
}
Changing <p>boom pow</p> to <p>boom boom pow</p> in the root element kicks off this in the javascript console in the browser:
[HMR] bundle rebuilding
client.js?3ac5:126 [HMR] bundle rebuilt in 557ms
process-update.js?e13e:27 [HMR] Checking for updates on the server...
process-update.js?e13e:81 [HMR] The following modules couldn't be hot updated: (Full reload needed)
This is usually because the modules which have changed (and their parents) do not know how to hot reload themselves. See http://webpack.github.io/docs/hot-module-replacement-with-webpack.html for more details.
process-update.js?e13e:89 [HMR] - ./src/containers/root.tsx
process-update.js?e13e:89 [HMR] - ./src/index.tsx
I've stepped through these steps as best I can tell, but am still having no luck.
What am I missing?
The problem, as mentioned by commenters, was missing in my loader - I'm not sure if this had anything to do with it, but I also switched to using babel after typescript - and having typescript compile to ES6. New config below:
var path = require('path')
var webpack = require('webpack')
var HtmlWebpackPlugin = require('html-webpack-plugin');
module.exports = {
devtool: 'cheap-module-eval-source-map',
entry: [
'webpack-hot-middleware/client',
path.resolve('./src/index.ts'),
],
output: {
path: path.join(__dirname, 'dist'),
filename: 'bundle.js'
},
plugins: [
new webpack.optimize.OccurrenceOrderPlugin(),
new webpack.HotModuleReplacementPlugin(),
new HtmlWebpackPlugin({ template: path.resolve('./src/index.html') })
],
module: {
loaders: [
{ test: /\.tsx?$/,
loaders: [
'react-hot',
'babel?presets[]=es2015',
'ts-loader'
]
},
{ test: /\.json$/,
loader: 'json'
}
]
},
resolve: {
extensions: ['', '.ts', '.tsx', '.js', '.json']
},
}
if someone still struggles with this see the readme: https://github.com/webpack-contrib/webpack-hot-middleware/blob/master/README.md
This module is only concerned with the mechanisms to connect a browser client to a webpack server & receive updates. It will subscribe to changes from the server and execute those changes using webpack's HMR API. Actually making your application capable of using hot reloading to make seamless changes is out of scope, and usually handled by another library.
webpack-hot-middleware doesn't handle hot reload, you'd need to use react-hot-loader for example

How to get sourcemaps working for React Css Modules?

I'm trying to setup a React project with react-css-modules, webpack and Hot Module Replacement. Everything is working like a charm but I can't get the CSS sourcemaps to work.
I followed this guide to make HMR work. It involves a BrowserSync setup to update the css file after Webpack writes it to disk.
I use (as suggested by react-css-modules) the ExtractTextPlugin to extract all of the css:
{
test: /\.scss$/,
loader: ExtractTextPlugin.extract('style','css?modules&importLoaders=1&localIdentName=[name]__[local]___[hash:base64:5]!sass')
}
But if I change this to sourcemaps, as suggested here
loader: ExtractTextPlugin.extract('style', 'css?sourceMap!sass-loader outputStyle=expanded&sourceMap=true&sourceMapContents=true')
I get the error: "root" CSS module is undefined. in my browser console.
You can find my example repo here, but here's the full webpack config I'm using for development.
var webpack = require('webpack');
var path = require('path');
var ExtractTextPlugin = require('extract-text-webpack-plugin');
var WriteFilePlugin = require('write-file-webpack-plugin').default;
module.exports = {
entry: {
bundle: [
'webpack/hot/dev-server',
'webpack-hot-middleware/client',
'./index.js'
]
},
devtool: 'cheap-module-source-map',
debug: true,
devServer: devServer,
context: path.resolve(__dirname, './src'),
output: {
path: path.resolve(__dirname, './builds'),
filename: '[name].js',
publicPath: '/builds/'
},
plugins: [
new webpack.HotModuleReplacementPlugin(),
new webpack.OldWatchingPlugin(),
new WriteFilePlugin(),
new ExtractTextPlugin('[name].css', {
allChunks: true
})
],
module: {
loaders: [
{
test: /\.js$/,
loaders: ['react-hot', 'babel-loader'],
exclude: /node_modules/
},
{
test: /\.scss$/,
loader: ExtractTextPlugin.extract('style','css?modules&importLoaders=1&localIdentName=[name]__[local]___[hash:base64:5]!sass')
}
]
},
resolve: {
extensions: ['', '.js', '.json']
}
};
How to make the sourcemap work?
Use this:
ExtractTextPlugin.extract('style','css?sourceMap&modules&importLoaders=1&localI‌dentName=[name]__[local]___[hash:base64:5]!sass?sourceMap')
i.e. add the sourceMap param to both css & sass loaders. It said so in sass-loader docs.
This is how I have my css modules set up:
'css-loader?modules&sourceMap&importLoaders=1&localIdentName=[name]__[local]___[hash:base64:5]!',
