In Protractor, I am trying to write a function to simulate clicking a responsive navigation menu item (i.e. menu is either a bar of dropdowns across the top or a hamburger link if mobile). The structure of the bar is defined by MEANJS with a few id="" attributes mixed in.
It seems to work exactly as I want when I run it one spec at a time, like so:
protractor app/tests/e2e/conf.js --suite mySuite
but when I run with the full test (that only has 4 tests in it), like so:
protractor app/tests/e2e/conf.js
I start to get this error intermittently (source of error is in 2 places below):
Failed: element not visible
Here's my function
commonPOs.clickNavBar = function(mainTab, linkUrl) {
var deferred = protractor.promise.defer();
var hamburger = element(by.id('nav-hamburger'));
var linkCssExpression = 'a[href*="' + linkUrl + '"]';
hamburger.isDisplayed().then(function(result) {
if ( result ) {
hamburger.click().then(function() {
var navBar = hamburger
.element(by.xpath('../..'))
.element(by.id('myapp-navbar'));
return clickItNow(mainTab, linkUrl, navBar);
});
} else {
return clickItNow(mainTab, linkUrl, element(by.id('myapp-navbar')));
}
});
return deferred.promise;
function clickItNow(mainTab, linkUrl, navBar) {
var link;
if(mainTab) {
// if mainTab was passed, need to
// click the parent first to expose the link
var parentLink;
if (mainTab == 'ACCTADMIN') {
parentLink = navBar.element(by.id('account-admin-menu'));
}
else {
parentLink = navBar.element(by.linkText(mainTab));
}
expect(parentLink.isPresent()).toBeTruthy();
parentLink.click(); // FIRST PLACE ERROR HAPPENS
link = parentLink.element(by.xpath('..')).element(by.css(linkCssExpression));
}
else {
link = navBar.element(by.css(linkCssExpression));
}
expect(link.isPresent()).toBeTruthy();
link.click(); // SECOND PLACE ERROR HAPPENS
return deferred.fulfill();
}
};
I have tried to use both of these but neither work:
browser.sleep(500);
browser.driver.wait(protractor.until.elementIsVisible(parentLink));
What NOOB async error am I making?
Self answer... but any better answer will win the green check mark!!!
EDITED - After more problems, found a nice 'waitReady()' contribution from elgalu.
There were a few obvious problems with my original code, but fixing them did not solve the problem. After working through what I could, the solution seemed to be the expect(navBar.waitReady()).toBeTruthy(); lines I added. I also had to split the nested function out. Anyway, here is the new code that seems to be working now. A better (comprehensive) answer will get the green checkmark! I'm pretty sure there's a flaw or 2 here.
commonPOs.clickNavBar = function(mainTab, linkUrl) {
var deferred = protractor.promise.defer();
var hamburger = element(by.id('nav-hamburger'));
hamburger.isDisplayed().then(function(result) {
if ( result ) {
hamburger.click().then(function() {
var navBar = hamburger
.element(by.xpath('../..'))
.element(by.id('myapp-navbar'));
return clickItNow(mainTab, linkUrl, navBar, deferred);
});
} else {
return clickItNow(mainTab, linkUrl, element(by.id('myapp-navbar')), deferred);
}
});
return deferred.promise;
};
function clickItNow(mainTab, linkUrl, navBar, deferred) {
var targetLink;
var linkCssExpression = 'a[href*="' + linkUrl + '"]';
expect(navBar.waitReady()).toBeTruthy();
if(mainTab) {
// if mainTab was passed, neet to
// click the parent first to expose the link
var parentTabLink;
if (mainTab == 'ACCTADMIN') {
parentTabLink = navBar.element(by.id('account-admin-menu'));
}
else {
parentTabLink = navBar.element(by.id('main-menu-' + mainTab));
}
// expect(parentTabLink.isDisplayed()).toBeTruthy();
expect(parentTabLink.waitReady()).toBeTruthy();
parentTabLink.click();
targetLink = parentTabLink.element(by.xpath('..')).element(by.css(linkCssExpression));
}
else {
targetLink = navBar.element(by.css(linkCssExpression));
}
expect(targetLink.isDisplayed()).toBeTruthy();
targetLink.click().then(function() {
return deferred.fulfill();
});
}

I have a ecommerce website, which has list of products similar to amazon. i am trying to look for a element and click it. i have tried by filter and map and both not working for me. Please help.
Below is the code for each product:
<b class="productNameHover pcursor word-break">product1</b>
<b class="productNameHover pcursor word-break">product2</b>
<b class="productNameHover pcursor word-break">product3</b>
<b class="productNameHover pcursor word-break">product4</b>
say i have 4 elements in my page. so, i have tried to get the count and it working for me.
var products = element.all(by.className('productNameHover')) ;
expect(products.count()).toBe(4);
when i tried filter,
Solution A) not working, no error message but did nothing
var products = element.all(by.className('productNameHover'));
products.filter(function(elem) {
return products.getText().then(function(text) {
return text === 'product4';
});
}).click();
browser.sleep(5000);
Solution B) not working; index out of bound; Trying to access element at index: 0, but there are only 0 elements that match locator
var products = element.all(by.className('productNameHover'));
products.filter(function(elem) {
return products.getText().then(function(text) {
return text === 'product4';
});
}).first().click();
browser.sleep(5000);
Soluction C) no error message but did nothing
var products = element.all(by.className('productNameHover'));
products.filter(function(elem) {
return products
.element(by.xpath(
"//div[#class='item text-center slide-image-content active']/img"
))
.getText()
.then(function(text) {
expect(text).toContain(product4);
})
.then(function(filteredElements) {
filteredElements.first().click();
});
});
browser.sleep(5000);
Solution D) This is working and giving me all the products; but i need to either click on a single product or loop through
var products = element.all(by.className('productNameHover'));
products.map(function(item) {
return item.getText();
}).then(function(txt) {
console.log(txt);
//expect(txt).toContain("product 4")
});
Solution E) not working and no error message
products.map(function(item) {
return item.getText();
}).then(function(txt) {
console.log(txt);
if( txt== 'product4') {
console.log(item);
item.click();
browser.sleep(5000);
}
});
Solution F) I tried to click on all the elements in loop but it is clicking on the first element and not clicking on the second one; it is giving Failed: stale element reference: element is not attached to the page document.
products.map(function(item) {
browser.sleep(5000);
item.click();
browser.sleep(5000);
var backButton = element.all(by.className('btn btn-outline btn-big mt-3 ml-0 ml-sm-2')).first() ;
backButton.click();
browser.sleep(5000);
})
You have wrong understand the Protractor API: each() / map() / filter(). Recommend you to learn JavaScript Array's forEach() / map() / filter() to have a better understanding before you use Protractor API.
Solution A)
return products.getText() should be return elem.getText().
filter() return an element array, thus you can't call click() on array.
Solution B)
return products.getText() should be return elem.getText().
Solution E) map() return array too.
products.map(function(item) {
return item.getText();
}).then(function(txt) {
// txt = [ 'product1', 'product2', 'product3', 'product4']
console.log(txt);
if( txt == 'product4') { // this condition never be true
console.log(item);
item.click();
browser.sleep(5000);
}
});
// correct code example
products.map(function(item) {
return item.getText();
}).then(function(txts) {
// txts = [ 'product1', 'product2', 'product3', 'product4']
console.log(txts);
let index = txts.indexOf('product4');
if( index > -1) {
products.get(index).click();
browser.sleep(5000);
}
});
Have you tried using each() function of the protractor API ?
var products = element.all(by.className('productNameHover'));
products.each(function(element) {
return element.getText().then(function (text) {
if(text === 'product4') {
return element.click();
}
});
})
I would suggest you to switch to new async/await syntax of writing js code.
const products = element.all(by.className('productNameHover'));
products.each(async function(element) {
let text = await element.getText();
if(text === 'product4') {
await element.click();
}
});
You can also use map() function -
element.all(by.className('productNameHover')).map(function(element) {
return element.getText(function(text) {
return text === 'product4'
});
}).then(function(elements) {
for (var i = 0; i < elements.length; i++) {
elements.get(i).click();
}
});
Sounds like you got it working and I may be misunderstanding, but if you're just trying to click on a specific product in the list, you can use
element(by.cssContainingText('.productNameHover', 'product4')).click();
Using AngularFire, Angular, Firebase.
I load a list of users from a Firebase Database. I use $loaded to ensure it waits until data loads.
I take this list, compare it against another firebase database of groups and push the results into two arrays.
Based on the console.logs the data sorts correctly. However, inside my template I get a blank page (I think this is because the page loads before the data is sorted).
Thoughts?
let userLoggedIn = AuthFactory.getUser();
var allUsersArray = $firebaseArray(ConnectFactory.fbUserDb);
var x = firebase.database().ref('groups');
var friendArr = [];
var notFriendArr = [];
allUsersArray.$loaded().then(function(){
angular.forEach(allUsersArray, function(user, i) {
var haveIAdded = x.child(userLoggedIn).child(allUsersArray[i].uid).once('value').then(function (snap) {
if (snap.val() !== null) {
return true;
} else {
return false;
}
});
var haveTheyAdded = x.child(allUsersArray[i].uid).child(userLoggedIn).once('value').then(function (snap) {
if (snap.val() !== null) {
return true;
} else {
return false;
}
});
Promise.all([haveIAdded, haveTheyAdded]).then(function([you, they]) {
if (you && they) {
console.log('We Are Friends', allUsersArray[i]);
friendArr.push(allUsersArray[i]);
} else {
console.log('not a friend ', allUsersArray[i]);
notFriendArr.push(allUsersArray[i]);
}
});
});
$scope.friendList = friendArr;
$scope.notFriendList = notFriendArr;
});
Alright, this time I tried to actually read the question before attempting to answer. ;-)
When you set your $scope.friendList and $scope.notFriendList within the $loaded promise, your Promise.all may (and most likely) havn't resolved yet when those are called, since angular.forEach doesn't wait for the promises to finish before moving on to the next statement in the function. So you'll have to build an array of promises and wait for them all to resolve outside of the loop before attempting to set your $scope variables.
allUsersArray.$loaded().then(function(){
var promises = [];
var friendArr = [];
var notFriendArr = [];
angular.forEach(allUsersArray, function(user, i) {
... // Same as before
promises.push(
Promise.all([haveIAdded, haveTheyAdded]).then(function([you, they]) {
if (you && they) {
console.log('We Are Friends', allUsersArray[i]);
friendArr.push(allUsersArray[i]);
} else {
console.log('not a friend ', allUsersArray[i]);
notFriendArr.push(allUsersArray[i]);
}
})
);
});
Promise.all(promises).then(function(){
$scope.friendList = friendArr;
$scope.notFriendList = notFriendArr;
});
});
I'm trying to implement Alert/Confirmation dialog boxes using the bootstrap modal service in my angular app. I want to make it generic, based on the parameter that I pass to the modal's controller it will either behave as the alert box where the user can just close it on reading the message on the modal and also it can behave like a confirmation dialog where the user should say either 'OK' or 'Cancel' I need to capture the response from the user which I'm able to. Now, the problem here is that i've list of items say in a grid and when ever user wants to delete an item from the list I need to show the confirmation message box and based on the user response I need to either delete the item or leave it if users wishes to leave it in the list, but my item is being deleted first and then the confirmation dialog is showing up, I've tried using the call back but still no use. Please help me if anyone came across this situation.
Method that shows the alert:
$scope.showAlertMessage = function (modalName,commands,callback)
{
var modalOptions = {};
var alertMessageText;
var okBtn;
var cancelBtn;
var autoCloseTimeout;
$scope.modalResp === false;
if (modalName === 'ItemNotEligible')
{
modalOptions['template'] = 'application/Views/ItemNotEligibleAlert.html';
modalOptions['cntrlr'] = 'itemAlertsController';
modalOptions['winClass'] = 'item-alert-win';
alertMessageText = commands.alertMessage.text;
okBtn=true;
cancelBtn = false;
autoCloseTimeout=commands.alertMessage.autoDismissalTimeout;
}
else if (modalName === 'ItemDelete')
{
modalOptions['template'] = 'application/Views/ItemNotEligibleAlert.html';
modalOptions['cntrlr'] = 'itemAlertsController';
modalOptions['winClass'] = 'item-alert-win';
alertMessageText = commands.alertMessage.text;
okBtn = true;
cancelBtn = true;
autoCloseTimeout = commands.alertMessage.autoDismissalTimeout;
}
var params = { alertMessage: alertMessageText};
var modalInstance=$modal.open({
templateUrl: modalOptions.template,
controller: modalOptions.cntrlr,
windowClass: modalOptions.winClass,
resolve: {
modalParams: function () {
return params;
}
}
});
modalInstance.result.then(function (selected) {
$scope.modalResp = selected; //Response from the dialog
});
callback($scope.modalResp);
}
Method where the delete item logic exists and call to show alert method is made
this.voidItem = function (skuid) {
alertMessage.text = 'Are you sure you want to remove <strong>' + itemdata[itmid].split('|')[0] + '</strong> from your list?';
$scope.showAlertMessage('ItemDelete', commands, function (userresp) {
if (userresp === true) {
var lineId = 0;
for (var i = itemListState.length - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
if (parseInt(itemListState[i].item) === itmid && Boolean(itemListState[i].isItemVoid) != true) {
lineId = itemListState[i].Id;
if (lineId != 0) {
break;
}
}
}
poService.DeleteItem(itmid, lineId, function (modal) {
virtualtable = modal;
$scope.itemCount = $scope.itemCount - 1;
$scope.createlist(itmid);
});
}
});
}
The problem is that you are executing the callback instead of chain the method to the result of the promise
modalInstance.result.then(function (selected) {
callback($scope.modalResp); //Once the promise is solved, execute your callback
$scope.modalResp = selected; //Why you need to save the response?
// If the user press cancel o close the dialog the promise will be rejected
}, onUserCancelDialogFn);
A more simple way:
modalInstance.result
.then(callback, onErrBack);
In my Service i have the vars i want to display and the getters for it:
var docsLoaded = 0;
var docsToLoad = null;
pouchService.getDocsLoaded = function () {
return docsLoaded;
};
pouchService.getDocsToLoad = function () {
return docsToLoad;
};
While the service is syncing, i want to count the synced docs
pouchService.syncNow = function () {
var foundLastSeq = false;
docsLoaded = 0;
docsToLoad = null;
remoteDB.info().then(function (remoteInfo) {
function findOutDiff(localPosition) {
docsToLoad = (remoteInfo.update_seq - localPosition) + 1;
console.log("docs to load: " + docsToLoad);
}
// start Sync progress
sync = localDB.sync(remoteDB, {live: false})
.on('change', function (info) {
console.log('AI change: ');
console.log(info);
if (info.direction === 'pull') {
if (foundLastSeq === false) {
foundLastSeq = true;
findOutDiff(info.change.last_seq);
}
}
console.log(docsLoaded + " from " + docsToLoad);
docsLoaded++;
})
In my HTML i want to display the progress like this:
{{pouchService.getDocsLoaded()}} from {{pouchService.getDocsToLoad()}}
Now i get sometimes a value from getDocsLoaded, but mostly its zero. When I cancel the Syncprogress i get the value where it's stopped.
So i get the value before it really starts and when it's over, but i want it during the sync progress. (on the console my my progressinfos are working as expected)
Any ideas?
The problem is in applying scope. Jim wrote a nice article about this problem:
jimhoskins.com/2012/12/17/angularjs-and-apply.html
Solved it:
$rootScope.$apply(function () {
docsLoaded++;
});
I've had a requirement recently to implement a UI for managing a many-many relationship. Ward Bell kindly provided this plunker showing how to implement using 1-m-1 with Angular and Breeze.
My app's design is based largely (especially the datacontext and the local storage) is based largely on John Papa's recent Pluralsight courses.
In my app, BusUnit = Hero and Dimension = Power (in reference to Ward's example.
Everything seems to be working well when I force the app to fetch data from the server, in that my updates to a business unit's dimensions reflect correctly. The problem I'm facing now is when I navigate away from the page and back again (which gets data from local storage). In this case:
if I previously added a new dimension to a business unit, everything is ok, but
if i previously marked a business unit's dimension for deletion and the save, the dimension still appears for the business unit in question.
this is the controller code that initially gets business units and their dimensions:
function getdboardStructure() {
var busUnitsPromise = datacontextSvc.busUnits.getByDboardConfigId(vm.dboardConfig.id);
var dimensionsPromise = datacontextSvc.dimensions.getByDboardConfigId(vm.dboardConfig.id);
$q.all([busUnitsPromise, dimensionsPromise])
.then(function (values) {
vm.busUnits = values[0];
vm.dims = values[1];
createBusUnitVms();
//vm.currentBusUnitVm = vm.busUnitVms[0]; // not required as using accordion instead of drop-down
vm.hasChanges = false;
});
}
this is the code in my controller that prepares for the save:
function applyBusUnitDimensionSelections(busUnitVm) {
var busUnit = busUnitVm.busUnit;
var mapVms = busUnitVm.dimensionMapVms;
var dimensionHash = createBusUnitDimensionHash(busUnit);
mapVms.forEach(function (mapVm) {
var map = dimensionHash[mapVm.dimension.id];
if (mapVm.selected) {
if (!map) {
datacontextSvc.busUnits.addBusUnitDimension(busUnit, mapVm.dimension)
.then(function () {
});
}
} else {
if (map) {
datacontextSvc.markDeleted(map);
}
}
});
}
this is the code in my controller that executes the save:
function save() {
if (!canSave()) {
return $q.when(null);
}
vm.isSaving = true;
vm.busUnitVms.forEach(applyBusUnitDimensionSelections);
return datacontextSvc.save().then(function (saveResult) {
vm.isSaving = false;
trapSavedDboardConfigId(saveResult); // not relevant to use case
}, function (error) {
vm.isSaving = false;
});
}
this is the code in my repository that add a new busUnitDimension entity:
function addBusUnitDimension(busUnit, dimension) {
var newBusUnitDimension = this.em.createEntity(busUnitDimension);
newBusUnitDimension.busUnitId = busUnit.id;
newBusUnitDimension.dimensionId = dimension.id;
return this.$q.when(newBusUnitDimension);
}
this is my datacontext code for marking an item deleted:
function markDeleted(entity) {
return entity.entityAspect.setDeleted();
}
and finally this is the repository code to get business units and their join table entities:
function getByDboardConfigId(dboardConfigId, forceRefresh) {
var self = this;
var predicate = pred.create('dboardConfigId', '==', dboardConfigId);
var busUnits;
if (self.zStorage.areItemsLoaded('busUnits') && !forceRefresh) {
busUnits = self._getAllLocal(entityName, orderBy, predicate);
return self.$q.when(busUnits);
}
return eq.from('BusUnits')
.expand('BusUnitDimensions')
.where(predicate)
.orderBy(orderBy)
.using(self.em).execute()
.to$q(succeeded, self._failed);
function succeeded(data) {
busUnits = data.results;
self.zStorage.areItemsLoaded('busUnits', true);
self.zStorage.save();
//self.logSuccess('Retrieved ' + busUnits.length + ' business units from server', busUnits.length, true);
return busUnits;
}
}
My departure from John's course examples is that I'm using expand in the function I use to get Business Units from the server, and my hypothesis is that this has something to do with the fact that breeze is going to the server everytime I refresh the page (without clearing cache) instead, and that this also has something to do with the error i'm receiving if I navigate away and then back to the page.
Can anyone offer and suggestions?
Appreciate this was a long time ago and you have probably solved it or moved on but I came up against the same problem recently that took me ages to resolve.
The answer I found is that you have to edit JP's angular.breeze.storagewip.js file.
I contains the names of the entities hard-coded into the file and you will need to change these to match your own entities.
There are two functions where you need to do this, examples below show the changes with the four entities I am using:
function zStorageCore($rootScope, zStorageConfig) {
var storeConfig = zStorageConfig.config;
var storeMeta = {
breezeVersion: breeze.version,
appVersion: storeConfig.version,
isLoaded: {
elementAssets : false,
surveyors : false,
elements : false,
assets : false
}
};
and...
function checkStoreImportVersionAndParseData(importedData) {
if (!importedData) {
return importedData;
}
try {
var data = JSON.parse(importedData);
var importMeta = data[0];
if (importMeta.breezeVersion === storeMeta.breezeVersion &&
importMeta.appVersion === storeMeta.appVersion) {
if (importMeta.isLoaded) {
storeMeta.isLoaded.assets = storeMeta.isLoaded.assets || importMeta.isLoaded.assets;
storeMeta.isLoaded.elements = storeMeta.isLoaded.elements || importMeta.isLoaded.elements;
storeMeta.isLoaded.surveyors = storeMeta.isLoaded.surveyors || importMeta.isLoaded.surveyors;
storeMeta.isLoaded.elementAssets = storeMeta.isLoaded.elementAssets || importMeta.isLoaded.elementAssets;
}
return data[1];
} else {
_broadcast(storeConfig.events.error,
'Did not load from storage because mismatched versions',
{ current: storeMeta, storage: importMeta });
}
} catch (ex) {
_broadcast(storeConfig.events.error, 'Exception during load from storage: ' + ex.message, ex);
}
return null; // failed
}
I solved this by comparing JP's Style Guide course files with his SPA/Angular/Breeze course.
