I have to use a cumbersome Silverlight application that I don't own and that I have to use as part of my job. In the past a web application that was painful to use I would just "screen-scrape" by doing direct posts, using a browser object to manipulate, call JS directly, but Silverlight doesn't make that possible as far as I know and the company that owns the application says a programmatic API for the application (WSDL/REST) is "something we are considering in the future". I'm sure someone has figured out how to do this but I'm not searching with the right key-words. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
I am in the similar situation and saw ppl suggested something like `teststack' or 'white'. But i don't know how to use them yet.
One dumb way I can think of is to save the 'screen shots' as jpg files and use machine learning algorithm to 'read' the information you needed.

I've never used Drupal, but have been looking up tutorials online. My client would really like the adaptability of React and to have more flexibility in terms of design. I could make my own database and React app, but I have not studied security (I'm a team of one, so no one for security on my end, either). Security and access to a content management system was the main reason we decided to go with Drupal. However, I would still like to be able to code in React/something I'm familiar with to produce a site I am proud to say I made.
I've been Googling and Youtubing tutorials and help, but not having anyone to ask specific questions is making this difficult.
If anyone knows of a relatively easy way to build a React app on Drupal, I would really appreciate the advice. Or if there is a better way I should go about beginning a project as I've briefly mentioned above, I would also be open to that. Thank you in advance and sorry for the long message!
What you are asking is quite broad in concept and not easy to answer in just one answer post. Try to look for Headless / Decoupled Drupal.

What this essentially means is that all the services and the content management are handled by Drupal while the core user experience or the way the site is displayed in a browser is controlled via a JavaScript framework such as React.js or backbone.js. This is achieved via Drupal’s RESTful API service.

I've been really interested in making a walkie talkie wpf application, however I'm not too sure where to start. I was wondering what kind of technology would be needed to capture one person speaking and playing it back to someone else? For anyone who's interested in something like this too, I found that the makers of Zello the phone walkie talkie phone app also provide a SDK which can be used to integrate in a .NET application. The question says it all really. If you are writing a WPF application, how are you integrating the application help? What is the state of play in mid-2013?
It seems that there is no clear answer to this from an afternoon with a search engine, but several options:
Write your own fancy tooltip based help (but where are you getting your data from?)
Use .CHM files and the Windows Forms help system (seems archaic to me).
Use Microsoft Help Viewer 1.X or Microsoft Help 2.0.
There is some confusion as to which is more recent / approved of by MS. It appear Help Viewer 1.X might be the recommended option over Microsoft Help 2.0. It doesn't help that the names are so similar...
What is the status of 2.0? Should we use it? Was it ever fully deployed?
Use a third-party product to author your help files and link to them somehow - DocToHelp/NetHelp, NetAdvantage on-line help, etc...
Furthermore, what XAML based mark-up / attributes are you using to provide the necessary context? What is the recommended method?
It seems surprising there is no clear path for supporting application based help in WPF.
My current preference is to use a third party help authorizing system to generate HTML based help.
We then use a WebBrowser to display this help as needed. The authoring system we use makes it fairly easy to extract out a single page from the main help (each "topic" is a single HTML file, and can be included with full contents or not as desired).
Granted, this definitely felt like a bit of a nasty hack at first - but once we wrote the basic plumbing (some attached properties for xaml to specify attributes for context location and add behavior to trigger help, etc), it's fairly clean.
One very nice advantage to this approach, however, is a single help system build works perfectly in all contexts - we can include the documentation online, expose it locally for use in a browser, and use it with context from within our application directly.
I'm pretty much totally lost.. I've posted twice on the smartclient forums and gotten no help so maybe the people here are more friendly than their own staff. (it really bothers me but they appear to have the best software for what I'm trying to do)
I'm trying to wrap my head around how I would get one of their examples (the demo showcase ones which I have downloaded etc) on my web host, just to see how it works/play with it, but I couldn't find any forum guides or videos etc on this (documentation is really abysmal for people that don't speak code yet).
Is there some special back-end I need on my web host? Where can I go to figure out how to link the stuff together? Do I have to compile something using java.. etc.
I'm used to just editing stuff in notepad++, uploading it, and hitting refresh, but I'm guessing smartclient isn't that simple, or is it? (I'm just going to use it to make tables from excel spreadsheets that I can filter through, that's it, no fancy application).

SmartClient embed everything needed, you will only need a valid JDK installation and the zip provided in their website.
Almost 2 years ago, I asked a question how easy it would be to convert an application from WPF to Silverlight. The result was that I couldn't do it in a few days.
Now we are considering moving in the opposite direction. We have an application that looks like this:
So when converting, the server would just stay the same. We don't have any idea what time it would need to make the changes. We figure that we need to redo all Views, but besides that, we don't know for sure what modifications are needed.
Has someone did something similar before? How did you do it? What were pitfalls? And how did you plan it?
Any advice/tips/guidance would be great.
One thing that may put a wrench in things is if you're using the async web service calls that are in silverlight you'll have to translate them in WPF because until .Net 4.5 async web calls aren't well supported. (looking for a reference on that fact, if someone has that'd be excellent)
also WPF offers some easier ways to do some of the tasks around binding and data templates which may wish to be explored and may change some of the design
