Touching two phones together to send data - mobile

I'm trying to develop an application like Bump to receive data from another device by touching them together. I could not find any tutorial on Google about this. Can somebody help me make an idea about how this works? What programming language should I use, how can I do it by using Bluetooth or/and Wifi, etc? I only need some info. I don't know where to start. Thank you!

If you want to create something like bump for iPhone, you could code it in Objective-C or swift. (Based on preference) For android you would code it in Java. To make this bump you need to create a trigger that detects a shake gesture on the device to trigger additional code. The additional code will take the location and the time of both devices in the bump and save it into a database. You need to check the location and the timestamp and compare those values. If is the same location and at the same time you know those are the two devices in the bump. After you know the devices involved you can send whatever information between those devices. Some of that data is available in the Display class. However, devices block the access to this information to protect users privacy from spyware. You would need complex permissions & authorization to access that sort of information from a system level.
That means you need to understand native code and even if you do this is impossible to implement on locked down platforms such as iOS.

Getting Locations Best Practice

What are the best practices one needs to know when trying to get the most accurate location coordinates from a user.
How can I explicitly get location using the user's gps? How can I also ensure getting location using the network is accurate? I am asking because when I get location while I am home..by the time I get to the office, the location I get is still the same which isnt supposed to be so. Does it have to do with my listener?
Any help/code snippets will be appreciated.

Modern Android devices and all iOS devices don't use GPS as much as they use hybrid location. Hybrid location correlates all sensor information (including gps) to give a location as accurately and quickly as possible while reducing battery usage.
This is on by default in Codename One if you don't do anything like explicitly specifying that Google Play Services shouldn't be included or if you include google play services other than location (without including location via the build hint android.playService.location=true) this won't be used either. In those cases Android will fallback to use GPS which is slower.

Notice that even then getting location takes time so make a request so you should use the getCurrentLocationSync() method or the location listener API to make sure you get a more accurate reading.

What is equivalent usage of sendmessage()[WINDOWS] in MAC OS X?

I have a ContextualMenuPlugin and an application. When user clicks the option from context menu i need to send a message to my app. In windows i achieved this using sendmessage() function. But i'm new to MAC OS X. Can any one please help me, by giving some api's or functions which will enlighten this situation?
You have plenty of choices on how to get messages into an application on your Macintosh.
The ways I'm thinking of include Apple Events or sockets or kqueues, but there's other stuff I've never even worked with that might even be more useful & appropriate (such as Distributed Objects). Check out this duplicate and/or related question and maybe you'll see a useful answer in there for you that you can build upon.
B.T.W.: how did you construct your Contextual Menu Plugin? Is it in Carbon or Objective C or is it some codeless plugin or plist or? The answer to that question probably will dictate a lot towards how you will be able to talk from your plugin to your app.
If you want to control just your application you might want to look into AppleScript. Using that solution has the added benefit that your users could also use it to automate things via scripting.

Mapping without Google Maps (on a stand-alone server)

I've been asked to create a stand-alone site/app that's not connected to the web (all on a local server).
One part of it is to have a map of a natural reserve with a bunch of links that will show footpaths, different animals habitat areas, visitor centres and such.
So there's a map (static picture) and when you click on it some overlay goes on top of it.
At least that's the way I see it now.
I've looked here: http://www.carto.net/williams/yosemite/ but it just looks mucho ugly.
Getting Maps Premium is not an option as it's not that cheap. And the reason they don't want to use Maps/Earth free API is because internet connection is still very slow there (sattelite internet only and when optic cable will be hooked up nobody knows).
Looking for some recommendations as to how to proceed there. Drawing paths/areas on the picture of the maps seems extremely insufficient and time consuming.
I'd need some way to use coordinates to automatically draw areas and lines over the map (and then somehow export that as a graphis file (or SVG) that'll be layered on top of original map simply using ajax.
Will ARCGIS pro edition be the way to go or should I start learning SVG. Do you know some good SVG books/tutorials (as related to mapping)? Maybe there's some other way around altogether...
They do have detailed maps of the area in ARCGIS (whatever format they are in I don't know yet).

Do you know GeoServer? More or less all-in-one, compatible with different types of datasets, widely customisable.
Starting from "raw" SVG and write the whole thing yourself will probably be prohibitively time consuming.
If you have very little data (say less than 50 geometries) that is fixed, you could also use OpenLayers without any backend server.
For the data you could use a OpenLayers.Layer.Image if your (overlay-) map consists of a small raster image. For vector data, you can use OpenLayers.Layer.Text or a OpenLayers.Layer.Vecor together with protocols OpenLayers.Layer.KML or .JSON.

I admit that this is not an easy task for a beginner, but it's fun hacking the maps together.

Wayfinder - Pathfinder Application

I want to create wayfinder/pathfinder mobile application. it will route visitors in our buildings. we have 20 buildings and each at least have 4 floor.
We want to develop our own wayfinder ex:http://www.wayfinderkiosk.com/
It should use Lat/Long coordinates to locate the people. and help to find its route.
So where should i start. Does any one have any idea for that. and it is going to be mobile.
I can develop app/site based on these platforms ( Mobile Web/Iphone/Adroid /Symbian/Windows )
But i need a start point. and i need your help.

You want to use lat/long inside of a building? Assuming these visitors are going to be using their own unmodified devices, you may have trouble with GPS. Unless you somehow get reliable GPS signal despite being under a four-story building, that's probably not going to work.
An RFID-tagged badge and sensors placed throughout the building seems more likely to work. Put a unique QR-code on each badge that directs the phone's browser to a tracking page for that specific badge.
edit: and now that I re-read your question and see that multiple buildings are involved, the GPS bit could certainly work for routing them from one building to another.
