HTML select, previously selected value in angular - angularjs

I have select option in HTML and I don't know how to put previosly selected value after reload.
<select ng-init="city_id = city_id" name="region" id="region" ng-model="city_id" >
<option value="-1" selected="selected">Select area</option>
<option ng-repeat="city in cities" value="{{city.id}}" ng-class="{ 'bold' : city.capital == 1 }">{{ city.name }}</option>
</select>
I used controller and created $scope.city_id and it has a value. But select still has default value.
Select area item is necessary for me because i can't modify json data to add this optio in cotroller.
Solution:
<option ng-selected="city_id == city.id" ng-repeat="city in cities" ...

Use ng-selected for select option

If the problem is that the controller is destroyed you may want store it in a value, I.e. angular.module ('myApp').value ('name',value)

Default for ng-select not working

I have a form using a select. I'm trying to set a default value, which I want to disable, so the dropdown will show "-- select state --" as the first option and will force the user to make a selection.
My problem is it's not working and the select always starts out blank.
Here is my code:
<select ng-model="contactEditCtrl.addressData.state" style="width: 50%;">
<option ng-disabled="$index === 1" ng-selected="true">--Select State--</option>
<option value="{{state.abbreviation}}" ng-repeat="state in contactEditCtrl.states">{{state.name}}</option>
</select>
Check this one with default <option> and ng-options:
<select ng-model="contactEditCtrl.addressData.state"
ng-options="state.name as state.name for state in contactEditCtrl.states" >
<option value="" ng-disabled="true">-- select state --</option>
</select>
Demo fiddle
It will be converted to:
<select ng-model="addressData.state" style="width: 50%;"
ng-options="state.name as state.name for state in states" class="ng-valid ng-dirty">
<option value="" ng-disabled="true" class="" disabled="disabled">-- select state --</option>
<option value="0">CCCCC</option>
<option value="1">QQQQQQ</option>
</select>
The empty option is generated when a value referenced by ng-model doesn't exist in a set of options passed to ng-options. This happens to prevent accidental model selection: AngularJS can see that the initial model is either undefined or not in the set of options and don't want to decide model value on its own.
In short: the empty option means that no valid model is selected (by valid I mean: from the set of options). You need to select a valid model value to get rid of this empty option.
Taken from here
So I'd suggest writing it like this.
var app = angular.module('myApp', []);
// Register MyController object to this app
app.controller('MyController', function MyController($scope) {
this.addressData = {state: "--Select State--"};
this.states = [{abbreviation: 'a', name:'ant'}, {abbreviation: 'b', name:'asd'}, {abbreviation: 'b', name:'asd2'}]
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.2.22/angular.min.js"></script>
<div ng-app='myApp' ng-controller='MyController as contactEditCtrl'>
<select ng-model="contactEditCtrl.addressData.state" style="width: 50%;">
<option value="--Select State--">--Select State--</option>
<option ng-value="state.abbreviation" ng-repeat="state in contactEditCtrl.states">{{state.name}}</option>
</select>
</div>

angularjs ng-repeat selected option

How to get the object of selected option in angular js using ng-repeat? Sample fiddle is here where myself populating the dropdown as,
<select ng-model="id" ng-init="id = '-1'" ng-change="select(option)">
<option value="-1">--Select--</option>
<option ng-repeat="option in list" value="{{option.id}}">{{option.name}}</option>
</select>
If someone chose option with id=1, i want to get the object {id:1, name:'A' in $scope variable.
EDIT: Myself tried with ng-options but filtering is not happening as required based on previous dropdown selection. sample fiddle
Use option object in ng-value={{option}} and whenever u select an option your scope.id will have the desired object.
Basically ur ng-model gets populated with selected value.
Just you have to change your option to this
<option ng-repeat="option in list" value="{{'Id : ' + option.id + ' Name : ' + option.name }}">{{option.name}}</option>
Hope this will work for you and you were looking for the same result
You have 2 option to get as Object.
option 1 :
you can use Filter to get Object
<select ng-model="id" ng-init="id = '-1'" ng-change="select((list|filter:{id:id}))">
<option value="-1">--Select--</option>
<option ng-repeat="option in list" value="{{option.id}}">{{option.name}}</option>
</select>
updated fiddler here
option 2 :
set your value as Object (option)
<select ng-model="id" ng-init="id = '-1'" ng-change="select(option)">
<option value="-1">--Select--</option>
<option ng-repeat="option in list" value="{{option}}">{{option.name}}</option>
</select>

Why the Angular ng-options value contains the value data type?

Guys after I used the angular directive ng-options I got this result
<select name="users" id="users" ng-options="user.id as user.name for user in users" ng-model="user">
<option value="number:1" label="Developers">Ahmed</option>
<option value="number:2" label="Designers">Jon</option>
<option value="number:3" label="HR">Astm</option>
<option value="number:4" label="Doctor">Fady</option>
</select>
<select name="colors" id="colors" ng-options="color.code as color.name for color in colors" ng-model="color">
<option value="string:ff0000" label="Developers">Red</option>
<option value="string:ffffff" label="Designers">White</option>
<option value="string:000000" label="HR">Black</option>
</select>
why the option value contains the data type such as number:1 or string:ffffff ??
how I can remove the data type from it and keeping only the value ?
Add track by [id] at the end of ng-options.
In your case it would be:
ng-options="user.id as user.name for user in users track by user.id"
and
ng-options="color.code as color.name for color in colors track by color.code"
Right now there is not option in angular to remove that type. If you need that, use custom directive with ng-option as parent.

Angular set tag as selected

I'd like to set the ng-class of a optiones-element as active. Unfortunately it doesn't work.
This is my option-menu:
<select>
<option ng-repeat="item in items">{{item}}</option>
</select>
and the item "one" should be active
<select>
<option ng-repeat="item in items" ng-class="{selected: item=='one'}">
{{item}}
</option>
</select>
It doesn't work. Does anyone know how to set the option tag as active?
An example of how it works is this:
<select>
<option>Blue</option>
<option selected>Green</option>
<option>Red</option>
</select>
Below is the right way "select" works in Angularjs, notice the included ng-model directive, if missing it doesn't work.
<select ng-model="selectedItemId" ng-options="item.id as item.name for item in items">
<option value="">-- choose item--</option>
</select>
to make an item of the list active, just set SelectedItemId variable assigned to ng-model at controller side.
$scope.selectedItemId = 1; //the Id belonging to the option to be selected
I see that you want to loop over the options using ng-repeat and then manually select the right option. It is nicer to use the select directive of Angular in that case:
<select ng-model="selectedItem" ng-options="items"></select>
See https://docs.angularjs.org/api/ng/directive/select for more information.

How does ng-selected work?

Here is a snippet. Q2 is selected as I expect.
<select name="quarter" ng-model="Quarter" >
<option value="1" >Q1</option>
<option value="2" ng-selected="Quarter=='Q1'">Q2</option>
<option value="3">Q3</option>
<option value="4">4</option>
</select>
Changing 'Q1' to 'Q2' makes nothing as selected as I expect. Now putting ng-selected="Quarter=='Q1'" DOES NOT make Q1 selected until i delete ng-selected="Quarter=='Q2"
wtf. How is this suppose to work?
If you put the ng-selected on the option element, your option will be selected when the ng-selected value is true. In your case, the option Q2 is selected when Quarter is equal to Q1.
If you want to select the value passed in Quarter, you must put the ng-selected on the select element :
<select name="quarter" ng-model="Quarter" ng-selected="Quarter"
ng-options="Quarter for Quarter in Quarters" >
{{Quarter}}
</select>
Take a look at the select directive documentation.
<select ng-model="hour">
<option ng-selected="hour == $index" ng-repeat="h in (((b=[]).length=24)&&b) track by $index" ng-bind="$index">{{h}}</option>
</select>
if you want a select for 24 hour, you can do this.
like this:
<body ng-controller="MainCtrl">
{{referenceNumber}}
<select ng-model="referenceNumber">
<option ng-selected="!referenceNumber">Default</option>
<option ng-repeat="number in numbers track by $index" ng-value="number">{{number}}</option>
</select>
</body>
"I believe one of the main reasons for ngSelected is to set default
values depending upon if the model is not set correctly." joshkurz commented on Mar 3, 2014
So the right way would be to rely on ng-model only in you case.
The right way to do what you are trying to do(pre select a option) is like this:
<select ng-model="purchase.product" name="purchase.product" class="u-full-width" ng-options="product.id as product.name for product in products"></select>

The ng-selected directive takes a boolean value or an expression which leads to a true/false boolean result.
You just need to pass its value true to make it work or an expression which leads to true.
It has nothing to do with ng-model of <select> tag.
Following is an example of this behaviour:
<select name="quarter" ng-model="Quarter" >
<option value="1" >Q1</option>
<option value="2" ng-selected="true">Q2</option>
<option value="3">Q3</option>
<option value="4">Q4</option>
</select>
This will make option Q2 selected by default.
