I can't get my angularJS module to update when the provider keeping the data is updated.
The console.logs are being written out, but html doesn't update.
Directive:
.directive('logBar', ['loggingService', function(loggingService) {
var template = '<div class="floatLeft" ><div class="arrow"></div></div>' +
'<ul class="floatLeft">' +
'<li class="logHolder" tabindex="-1" ng-repeat="log in logs | reverse">' +
'<label class="label label-{{log.type}}" ng-click="alert(log.message);" tabindex="-1">{{log.date | date:"HH:mm, dd.MMM" }} - {{log.message}}</label>' +
'</li>' +
'</ul>';
return {
restrict: 'E',
template: template,
scope: {},
link: function($scope, $elem, $attrs) {
$scope.$watch(function() {
console.log("logs updating");
$scope.logs = loggingService.getLogs();
console.log($scope.logs);
});
}
};
}]);
provider:
provider('loggingService', function() {
var logs = [{"date": Date.now(), "origin": "Logbar", "message": "Welcome", "type": "info"}];
var maxLogs = 15;
var types = "default,primary,success,info,warning,danger";
this.resetLog = function() {
logs = [];
};
this.Removelog = function(message, type, alert) {
};
this.$get = function() {
return {
logs: logs,
getLogs: function() {
return logs;
},
log: function(message, type, alert) {
if (types.indexOf(type) === -1) {
if (type !== "error") {
type = "default";
} else {
type = "danger";
}
}
logs.push({"message": message, "type": type, "date": Date.now(), origin: "User"});
if (logs.length > maxLogs) {
logs.shift();
}
}
};
};
})
controller:
Works with applys, but without them, it does not. Is there anyway to insert the $apply into the provider so I don't have to write them everywhere?
$http.post("/competition/" + $scope.key, angular.toJson($scope.draws)).success(function(data) {
$scope.fixDraws();
loggingService.log("Saved", "success", false);
$scope.$apply();
}).error(function(data) {
loggingService.log("Error", "danger", true);
$scope.fixDraws();
$scope.$apply();
});
From what I read, you're trying to update your scope from the watchExpression, not from the $watch listener.
Try this:
link: function($scope, $elem, $attrs) {
$scope.$watch(
// watch expression
function() {
return loggingService.getLogs();
},
// listener
function(newVal){
$scope.logs = newVal;
}
);
}
Refer to the docs.
It was fixed by adding the $apply to the http calls. And I could not reproduce the error in another project.

When initial value of $scope.ratings is number like 1,2,3 then starts prints but the value retrieved by ajax request is not getting added to directive and in directive values shows "undefined" and no starts getting printed.
The tag below directive in view code gives retrieved value referring to this Codepen: http://codepen.io/TepigMC/pen/FIdHb
What I am missing in directive?
use ng-if so that the directive is called after you have $scope.ratings.
<star-rating ng-if="ratings" ratingValue="ratings" readonly="true"></star-rating>
I created a custom directive in which I have given text box and I want to take that model value in my controller.
I tried to find it, but didn't success.
here is my directive code
app.directive("bhAddCategory", ["$rootScope", "$timeout", "CategoryFactory", "ArticleFactory", "RecentArticleFactory", "focus", function ($rootScope, $timeout, CategoryFactory, ArticleFactory, RecentArticleFactory, focus) {
return {
scope: {
display: '=bhCategoryToggle',
imageOverflow: '=bhImageOverflow',
textBoxCss: '#bhTextBoxCss',
rmText: '=bhRmText'
},
replace: true,
template: '<div>' +
'<div class="pull-left forDrop"><input type="text" focus-on="focusMe" ng-class="myColonyList" class="effect1" placeholder="Add a colony" data-ng-model="newCategoryName" data-ng-trim="true" ng-keypress="pressEnter($event)"></div>' +
'<div class="pull-right"><img src="/images/greyplus.png" ng-class="{imageoverflow: imageOverflow}" ng-show="loadplus" data-ng-click="addCategory()" alt="add category"><img src="/images/loader.gif" ng-class="{imageoverflow: imageOverflow}" alt="" ng-show="loadgif" class="colonyloder"></div >' +
'</div>',
link: function (scope, element, attrs) {
scope.loadplus = true;
scope.pressEnter = function (keyEvent) {
if (keyEvent.which === 13)
scope.addCategory();
};
scope.resetNewCategoryName = function () {
if (scope.rmText) {
scope.newCategoryName = '';
}
};
scope.addCategory = function () {
scope.display = false;
var addNewCat = scope.newCategoryName;
commonNotification($rootScope, true, false, '', '');
var categoryData = {
category_name: addNewCat,
category_type: 0
};
if (addNewCat !== undefined && addNewCat !== '') {
scope.loadgif = true;
var category_details = CategoryFactory.nameExists(addNewCat);
if (!category_details.exist) {
CategoryFactory.addAtPostion(categoryData, category_details.mid)
.then(function (category) {
scope.loadgif = false;
scope.resetNewCategoryName();
commonNotification($rootScope, false, true, true, category.success);
$timeout(function () {
$rootScope.newStatus = false;
}, 3000);
}, function (error) {
commonNotification($rootScope, false, true, true, error.message);
$timeout(function () {
$rootScope.newStatus = false;
}, 3000);
});
} else {
scope.loadgif = false;
commonNotification($rootScope, false, true, true, 'Category name already exists!');
$timeout(function () {
$rootScope.newStatus = false;
}, 2000);
}
} else {
commonNotification($rootScope, false, true, true, 'Category name is required!');
$timeout(function () {
$rootScope.newStatus = false;
}, 2000);
}
};
}
};
}]);
And here is my controller
app.controller('bookmarkCtrl', ["$scope", "$http", "$rootScope", "$timeout", "RecentArticleFactory", "CategoryFactory", "ArticleFactory", "focus", "debounce", "userFactory", function ($scope, $http, $rootScope, $timeout, RecentArticleFactory, CategoryFactory, ArticleFactory, focus, debounce, userFactory) {
}]);
Can I get any working demo, so that I can understand and implement in my code
Thanks in Advance
Use a parent scope excecution parameter on your directive.This is a scope function which is declared on your parent controller and is invoked from within your directive whenever you want to pass something to your controller.
To accomplish this we declare a scope parameter in our directive with the '&' prefix
See this example which i created for another answer
http://jsfiddle.net/jwd3gywz/26/
JS
angular.module('components', []).controller('Composer', function Composer($scope, $http) {
// adding snippet to composed text
$scope.composed_text = '';
$scope.updateCaretPosition=function(pos){
$scope.caret_position=pos;
console.log('called'+pos);
}
$scope.$watch('caret_position',function(){
console.log($scope.caret_position);
})
}).directive('caretPosition', function() {
return {
scope:{updateCaretPosition:'&'},
link: function(scope, element, attrs) {
element.bind('keyup click', function(e){
var caret_position = element[0].selectionStart;
scope.updateCaretPosition({pos:caret_position});
console.log('my current position: ' + caret_position);
});
}
}
});
angular.module('myApp', ['components'])
HTML
<!doctype html>
<html ng-app="myApp">
<body>
<div ng-controller="Composer">
<textarea class="form-control composed_text" ng-model="composed_text" update-caret-position="updateCaretPosition(pos)" caret-position="" rows="20"></textarea>
</div>

I am trying to make a alert service with a directive. It is in the directive part I have some trouble. My have a directive that looks like this:
angular.module('alertModule').directive('ffAlert', function() {
return {
templateUrl: 'components/alert/ff-alert-directive.html',
controller: ['$scope','alertService',function($scope,alertService) {
$scope.alerts = alertService;
}],
link: function (scope, elem, attrs, ctrl) {
scope.$watch(scope.alerts, function (newValue, oldValue) {
console.log("alerts is now:",scope.alerts,oldValue, newValue);
for(var i = oldValue.list.length; i < newValue.list.length; i++) {
scope.alerts.list[i].isVisible = true;
if (scope.alerts.list[i].timeout > 0) {
$timeout(function (){
scope.alerts.list[i].isVisible = false;
}, scope.alerts.list[i].timeout);
}
}
}, true);
}
}
});
The reason for the for-loop is to attach a timeout for the alerts that has this specified.
I will also include the directive-template:
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-1"></div>
<div class="col-sm-10">
<div alert ng-repeat="alert in alerts.list" type="{{alert.type}}" ng-show="alert.isVisible" close="alerts.close(alert.id)">{{alert.msg}}</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-1"></div>
</div>
When I run this, I get this error in the console:
TypeError: Cannot read property 'list' of undefined
at Object.fn (http://localhost:9000/components/alert/ff-alert-directive.js:10:29)
10:29 is the dot in "oldValue.list" in the for-loop. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
Edit: I am adding the alertService-code (it is a service I use to keep track of all the alerts in my app):
angular.module('alertModule').factory('alertService', function() {
var alerts = {};
var id = 1;
alerts.list = [];
alerts.add = function(alert) {
alert.id = id;
alerts.list.push(alert);
alert.id += 1;
console.log("alertService.add: ",alert);
return alert.id;
};
alerts.add({type: "info", msg:"Dette er til info...", timeout: 1000});
alerts.addServerError = function(error) {
var id = alerts.add({type: "warning", msg: "Errormessage from server: " + error.description});
// console.log("alertService: Server Error: ", error);
return id;
};
alerts.close = function(id) {
for(var index = 0; index<alerts.list.length; index += 1) {
console.log("alert:",index,alerts.list[index].id);
if (alerts.list[index].id == id) {
console.log("Heey");
alerts.list.splice(index, 1);
}
}
};
alerts.closeAll = function() {
alerts.list = [];
};
return alerts;
});
try like this , angular fires your watcher at the first time when your directive initialized
angular.module('alertModule').directive('ffAlert', function() {
return {
templateUrl: 'components/alert/ff-alert-directive.html',
controller: ['$scope','alertService',function($scope,alertService) {
$scope.alerts = alertService;
}],
link: function (scope, elem, attrs, ctrl) {
scope.$watch(scope.alerts, function (newValue, oldValue) {
if(newValue === oldValue) return;
console.log("alerts is now:",scope.alerts,oldValue, newValue);
for(var i = oldValue.list.length; i < newValue.list.length; i++) {
scope.alerts.list[i].isVisible = true;
if (scope.alerts.list[i].timeout > 0) {
$timeout(function (){
scope.alerts.list[i].isVisible = false;
}, scope.alerts.list[i].timeout);
}
}
}, true);
}
}
});
if you have jQuery available, try this
if(jQuery.isEmptyObject(newValue)){
return;
}
inside scope.$watch
In Angular.js, scope.$on("UPDATE", function(event, account, vipLabel, nodeName) is firing about 20 times when it should only invokes once for each $rootScope.$broadcast("UPDATE", this.account,this.vipLabel, this.nodeName). I know that scope.$on() contains an event object, but I haven't been able to find a use for it to help my issue.
I am stuck on this and I need the scope.$on() to fire only once for each broadcast.
angular.module('main.vips')

var account = Restangular.one("account", account);
var eventId = account.one("event", eventId);
return eventId;
}
function NewStatusEvent(account, eventId, url, vipLabel, nodeName) {
this.iteration = 0;
this.account = account;
this.eventId = eventId;
this.url = url;
this.vipLabel = vipLabel;
this.nodeName = nodeName;
}

this.url.get()

UPDATE:
I added if (scope.type !== "vip") and it worked...now the event fires only once. It doesn't make sense to me because it is the <div id="{{vip.label}}" action-button type="vip" that I am using. It seems like it should be if (scope.type == "vip") instead...but it's the opposite.

var vipElement = angular.element(document.querySelector('#vipLabel-'+vipLabel));
var elementGlobe = '<div id="'+vipLabel+nodeName+'">Element modified</div>';

Using ui-bootstrap I have a really simple custom directive that lists alerts at the top of the page. On normal pages it works like a champ. When I use my directive inside a $modal popup I get "undefined is not a function" at ngRepeatAction.
The directive I have behind the modal on the main page still works. I can see it behind the modal. It's just the one in the modal popup that breaks. What am I doing wrong?
Modal open code:
$modal.open({

$scope.auth = angular.copy(auth);
$scope.auth.password = null;

function(resp) {
if (resp.rc===0) {
Alerts.addAlert('success', 'Auth `'+$scope.auth.name+'` saved.');
_.extend(auth, $scope.auth);
$modalInstance.close();
} else {
Alerts.addAlert('danger', 'Auth `'+$scope.auth.name+'` could not be saved. ' + resp.message, 'serverAuths');
}
}
);
};
$scope.resetAuth = function() {
$modalInstance.close();
};
}
}).result.then(
function() {
