I'm trying to create a batch file that will execute all of the batch files located in a folder. So I have a folder that contains 6 (will increase) batch files, and I want to use a for loop to iterate through the list. An easier way of understanding it would be like so:
for batchFile in folder:
CALL batchFile
cd Desktop
Each batch file should start after the other finishes. Also, batch files will be the only type of files in the folder, so there shouldn't need to be any kind of separation. It may sound odd, but both the call and the directory change need to be inside of the loop (due to directory changes in each of the batch files).
This is the closest thing I've found for getting a start on this:
for /r %%i in "DIR" do CALL
Where "DIR" is the folder directory. However, it 1) doesn't work and 2) would only do a CALL and not also a directory change. Does anyone know how to do this?
Also, I'm using Windows 7.

Doing this in a bat file will work:
CALL "WelcomeScreenLists.bat"
cd directory
CALL "WelcomeScreenLinks.bat"
cd directory
CALL "RightClick.bat"
cd directory
CALL "RibbonButtons.bat"

"directory" is the full path of the folder containing the bat files. I would like to turn this into a for loop that loops through all files in the folder.
I would think you'd want something like this:
for /f "delims=" %%i in ('dir /b ".\*.bat"') do (
CALL %%i
)
This works from the current directory. You can hard-code a directory by replacing the first "." in the dir statement with the full directory name, like so:
for /f "delims=" %%i in ('dir /b "c:\folder\subfolder\*.bat"') do (
CALL %%i
)
The "for /f" syntax will iterate over file names, the "dir" command is any valid dir command... you can use any options to control sort order, for example.

What I want to accomplish can be done with for %%i in (*) do md "%%~ni" however this only works if my batch file is in the same folder as the files I want to process. I want to run a batch file from a another folder.
This is what I have tried so far and it's not working. It is still creating the folders in the same folder I run the batch file.

You need to concatenate the path with the name
like this
for %%i in ("D:\test1\*") do md "D:\test2\%%~ni"
So I have the batch file below.

So when I drag and drop multiple files into the batch file, it will take the name of the folder that holds the files that I drag and drop and make a new folder at C:\ with the same name and then move the files into the new folder at C:\
Example: The folder that holds the files that I want to move is name Shop. Then the folder Shop is located at
...\ground\bell\tower\Shop
Using the batch file will make a new folder name Shop at C:\

The batch files works when I drag and drop about 100 files at once. The problem is that when I drag and drop 300 files at once, it returns the Error that says "The filename or extension is too long". I am able to move the files manually so I know that it can not be cause by a filename being too long.
Then I made a new batch file thinking maybe it is a problem with the move command or my for loop. So I wrote the batch file below.

MKDIR "C:\%FolderName%"
MOVE "%cd%\*.*" "C:\%FolderName%"
Now the second batch file above works just about the same as the first batch file. Just that with the second batch file, I only need to drag and drop one file from the folder that I want to move and it will move all the files in the first folder to a new folder at C:\ even if the first folder had 1000 files.
My question is why does the first batch file fail if I drag and drop too many files at once. Using the second batch file work, so it can not be because of the move command or is it? Since I am moving all the files from one folder to the other, the second batch file fits my need and was wondering if there will be any problems with the second batch file or a better way of doing this.
When you Drag-n-Drop Files on you Bat File, your Bat is actually called as if you would have called it in your command prompt. So if you drag three files on your Bat i.e.
Testfile.txt
Testfile.md
Testfile.jpg
Then actually your Bat is called like this:
C:\MyBatch.BAT Testfile.txt Testfile.md Testfile.jpg
If you call more it is obviously something like:
C:\MyBatch.BAT Testfile.txt Testfile.md Testfile.jpg Testfile01.txt Testfile01.md Testfile01.jpg Testfile02.txt Testfile02.md Testfile02.jpg Testfile03.txt Testfile03.md Testfile03.jpg Testfile04.txt Testfile04.md Testfile04.jpg Testfile05.txt Testfile05.md Testfile05.jpg etc...
Ah, can you read the rest of the line? Ok, this is not as long as 1000 Files but get the point what the difference is in your scripts. Your command line buffer will not be able to capture that much input.
Actually the size of how many characters you can enter in you command prompt varies a bit from system to system, but there was something like 8k in winXP, i reckon it is still the same.

And since the length of your command prompt is so "short" you have to find different methods for longer file trails - as you did - you could also overcome this, if you output the files you want to copy in a text file and then use that as input for your copy bat.
dir /b >filelist.txt
so now that you have this file list, then you just read the text file line by line:
for /f "delims=" %%i in (filelist.txt) do echo D|xcopy "C:\FolderName\%%i" "c:\temp\%%i" /i /z /y
so this will actually read your file list.txt and will (for each filename in list) press D key and pipes it to the XCopy command.
So piping a filelist to your command is a much better way, where actually in your case, if you really want the whole dir and not just a selection, copying directories is faster than copying file by file.

I have a folder structure like this:
C:\\\Logs\logs1\tracelogXXXX.log
C:\\\Logs\logs2\tracelogXXXX.log
C:\\\Logs\logs3\tracelogXXXX.log
Each folder has a bunch of tracelogXXXX's, and I've got the pseudocode for a script that loops through each folder, archives each log into its own .zip, and then delete the tracelog left outside the archive (because 7zip doesnt have move functionality).
But I have no batch experience really, and I can't even get the zipping to work properly.
I can't access the documentation for 7zip from where I am currently, so I've tried this:
CD C:\Logs
FOR /R %%i IN ("*.log") DO "C:\...\7za.exe" a -tzip "%%i.zip"
And also this:
CD C:\Logs
FOR /R %%i IN ("*.log") DO "C:\...\7za.exe" a -tzip "%%i.zip" "%%i\"
The first one goes and zips all of \Logs for each instance of a .log file, making many zips each bigger than the last. And the second makes zips for each instanceof a .log file, with nothing in them.
How do I just zip each log file, in its own zip, named after itself, while operating from the parent directory? Deleting the outer files afterwards doesn't seem hard to accomplish once I figure out whats wrong with this syntax, but this is the important part!
You can do this from the command line with no batch file needed:

I have a case where I have N number of sub folders under a parent folder X. The folder names are not in any order.
I have a requirement where I have to go into each of these subfolders and perform a specific task or run a command (for example create a text file called new.txt).
How can I do this?

I want to create a .bat file that will help me to find/search a particular .exe file in folders in a particular location and then run that .exe file.

search file in particular location e.g."\G:\data" and in this prime location there is many folders and in that folders many sub folders are there. and the .exe file is available in one of these sub-folder and the location I do not know. only I know the name of the .exe file.

from the above two different program I put it in to notepad for creating two different .bat file and executed one after anther file. but that was unable to locate and run autorun.exe file.
just for example my autorun.exe file exact locations are
G:\data-a\test\test1\t1 and G:\data-a\test\test1\t1
but in G:\data-a\test location there may be several subfolders.
so to run autorun.exe one by one that to find the file in subfolder is difficult. I want to give the path G:\data-a\test in program and all the files will be found in subfolder and then run automatically.
