I'm creating users in some test. Since it is connected to the backend and create real users I need fixtures. I was thinking of using the browser name to create unique user. However, It has proven to be quite difficult to get to it...
Anyone can point me in the right direction?

The answer was actually quite simple.
in my onPrepare function I added the following function and it works flawlessly.
browser.getCapabilities().then(function (cap) {
browser.browserName = cap.caps_.browserName;
});
I can get access the name in my test using browser.browserName.
This has changed in version of protractor starting from 3.2 (selenium webdriver 2.52)
Now one should call:
browser.driver.getCapabilities().then(function(caps){
browser.browserName = caps.get('browserName');
}
If you want to avoid the a browser, you may want to do this:

I am facing intermittent protractor test failures across a range of test suites without any real pattern in the fail cases to indicate what could be going on, for example it's not the same tests that are failing. Sometimes I will get many failures and on other occasions just a single fail case.
I should point out that this tends to only happen when performing test runs on a Jenkins CI server we have configured (running under linux). Locally on Windows dev machines we may get a single fail case after 30-40 runs which I can live with!
The application we are testing is currently built with angular 1.5 and we are using angular material 1.1.3
Due to the animations used in angular material and the performance hit these can have, we have already tried disabling animations following this approach here which certainly make the tests quicker but dont help with the fail cases we are seeing/
I am at a point now where I am running one test suite over and over, after 5 successful runs it then failed on it's 6th attempt on our Jenkins CI environment\linux box, locally I have run this test many times now and no failures yet.

In this test suite after the call to createOperator from the PO file is invoked and the savteBtn is clicked, the application will transition to a state that shows a table of created entries (after successful creation of course). We are using angular ui-router also, currently on version 0.2.18
The expectation fails with:
Expected 'Create An Operator' to equal 'Operators'.
Yet the accompanying screenshot that was captured shows the table view with an 'Operators' heading, it seems the call to page.headline.getText() inside the expectation call is being invoked too soon, so before the database operation to create the item and the page change has had a chance to complete?
I have started wondering if this could be down to the order of promises executed by protractor. I have come across articles talking about control flow in protractor and why there may be occasions when you should hook into the result of a protractor call's promise using .then() - I found this
It got me wondering if I should move the call to my saveBtn.click(), that's called at the end of my page object's createOperator function, into the test suite, so doing something like:

I have been looking around for suitable ways to 'clean up' created records after tests are run using Protractor.
As an example, I have a test suite that currently runs tests on create and update screens, but there is currently no delete feature, however there is a delete end point I can hit against the backend API.
So the approach I have taken is to record the id of the created record so that in an afterAll I can then issue a request to perform a delete operation on the record.

Whilst this works, I am unsure whether this is a good or bad approach, and if the latter, what are the alternatives.
I'm doing this in order to prevent a whole load of dummy test records being added over time. I know you could just clear down the database between test runs, e.g. through a script or similar on say a CI server, but it's not something I\we have looked into further. Plus this approach seems on the face of it simpler, but again I am unsure about the practicalities of such an approach directly inside the test spec files.
Can anyone out there provide further comments\solutions?

Well, for what it's worth I basically use that exact same approach. We have an endpoint that can reset data for a specific user based on ID, and I hit that in a beforeAll() block as well to reset the data to an expected state before every run (I could have done it afterAll as well, but sometimes people mess with the test accounts so I do beforeAll). So I simply grab the users ID and send the http request.
I can't really speak to the practicality of it, as it was simply a task that I accomplished and it worked perfectly for me so I saw no need for an alternative. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone in that approach :)

The more robust solution is to mock your server with $httpBackend so you don't have to do actual calls to your API.
You can then configure server responses from your e2e test specs.

What are the methods we can use to wait for an Angular site to be loaded in order to test it with protractor in order to avoid this error caused by jasmine : A Jasmine spec timed out. Resetting the WebDriver Control Flow ?

You can use the browser object of Protractor to wait for angular.
As soon as you load your page add the following :
browser.waitForAngular();
This error means that your test took too much time and exceeded the default Jasmine spec timeout interval which is 30 seconds by default (It looks like you've configured the timeout to be 60 seconds). It can be configured in the jasmineNodeOpts object in your Protractor config:

The solution is usually use-case specific and it usually indicates there is an error in the test code. In order to fully understand what is going, we would need to see the code itself.
In your particular case, for starters, you should try moving the "ignore synchronization" and the browser.get() part into the beforeEach. Also, since you are turning the sync off, you need to wait for the element to be present on the page before interacting with it:

Can you wait for a url?
Let's assume that when you click on the login button your page is redirected to another url. So you can wait for the expected url. Example:

First off, I just started trying to add SignalR 2 to my existing Angular SPA project.
I have a main controller which starts the hub right away that is feeding some messages to the client. Inside, I have several sub pages and each could subscribe to a different hub for services. The problems is that the client doesn't receive message because it is hooked up after the hub is already started in the main controller.
As a test, if I comment out the hub start in the main controller, the one in the sub controller works fine.
From what I read, it is by design that you have to hook up all client calls before starting the hub. I don't understand...if it is a service, I should be able to subscribe or unsubscribe anytime after the hub is started. Why not? How to workaround?
Because no response in the 12 hours (which is quite unusual in so), I had to dig around myself. I think, I was misled by the answers from SO on related questions that you have to subscribe all client call before starting the connection, as mentioned e.g. here. I found in Hubs API Guide, one section says
Define method on client (without the generated proxy, or when adding
after calling the start method)
So, it is possible to add client method after connection is started. The trick is to use so-called "without the generated proxy". That limitation is for "with generated proxy".
The following is my working example taken from SignalR get started tutorial.

By the way, I was so confused by the term with or without generated proxy in the Guide, and in both cases, it is still called xxxProxy. Can't they find a better name? Or somebody has an explanation?
I have isolated the problem down to a few lines. With IIS express it calls the PUT on the web API. When I switch to using IIS with the same code the call to the PUT method never happens.. The GET call works with both just fine.. any idea?

I thought it was working but now it only works when 'localhost' and not the computer name.. it is not calling the server method.. any ideas what things to look out for that make the site act differently from localhost to ? .. and even stranger.. the angular site wont load in IE.. but it loads in chrome

I think I have the answer.. The dewfault webapi PUT/UPDATE creates invalid code.. It sort of randomly would breaking at db.Entry(place).State = EntityState.Modified... I found code here that seems to fix it so far.. not exactly sure what it does though
An object with the same key already exists in the ObjectStateManager. The ObjectStateManager cannot track multiple objects with the same key
Remove WebDAV module from IIS, it should work
IIS does block some of the actions by default, I believe PUT is one (DELETE is another).
