BIDS keeps crashing - sql-server

I am working on SQL SERVER 2008 R2 and BIDS Visual Studio 2008 Version 9.0.30729.446 , The problem is it keeps crashing, It just restarts itself.
Did some googling and found this Hotfix Visual Studio 2008 SP1 crashes when you open a BIDS project. I have download and applied the hotfix but the issue persists.
It seems like it is a well known issue as Microsoft decided to issue a hotfix for it. But the hotfix didnt solve the issue for me.
Has someone else also experienced it and how did you fix it? any suggestions or pointer in the right direction is much appreciated. Thank you.

"Cannot find one or more components." when trying to start SSMS

Getting the vague "Cannot find one or more components." message when trying to start SSMS. SSMS used to work before installing the latest VS.
The version of SSMS I'm using is the newest 18.1, I have VS 2019, and have NO OTHER Visual Studio.
There's NO Visual Studio Isolated Shell 2019 (or 2017 for that matter) and installing 2015 DOES NOT solve the issue!!
I'm slightly miffed right now at this pathetic problem. Whoever designed this mess should be fired. Why not give EXACTLY the reason this problem exists in a concise easy to understand error.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled every C++ redistributable package and the 2015 powershell about a billion times (I've also removed all the SQL Management Studio registry keys and uninstalled/reinstalled it too) and this error will NOT go away.
Anyone else have this issue? Any thoughts on solving this?

Adding Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013

I have a current instance of SQL Server 2014 on my machine and just installed Visual Studio 2013. I would like to install BIDS as well. Unfortunately I keep getting an error and I do not really understand why. Would anyone be able to help?
I am assuming I would want to use the same installation, but I am not really sure what could be going wrong. Any help or information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Installer Error while Installing SQL Server Reporting Services

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Server 64bit, I have already installed SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 64bit Enterprise Edition, Which is working fine, without any issues.
Now when I am trying to install Reporting Services I get the following error.
I have googled and got nowhere, any ideas why this is happening, obviously the error messages suggests there is something wrong with the installer but Vendor claims its fine and it should work. Am I missing something? any suggestions any pointers in the right direction is much appreciated. Thank you.

Cannot install SQL Server 2008 Management Studio - Need Visual Studio C++ 2008 SP1

Having a really strange issue on a laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium, soon to be updated to Pro)
When i try to install Web Management Studio for SQL Server Express 2008. Every time i try to load it i receive the following:
You must install Visual Studio C++ 2008 SP1
Now, i don't have Visual Studio 2008 installed on this machine, which would make the above make sense with regards to this message and its applied fixes that you can find on Google. I have tried to install the distributables to try and overcome this problem but nothing has worked.
I did have 2010 express installed (now uninstalled), and now have 2012 but it is really becoming annoying. Has anyone had the same issue, where VS2008 is not installed but you still get this and how the hell i can fix it. The registry fixes don't work as i don't have the VS2008 entries to change.
You should clean up your registry to make sure you dont have any residual entry of previous installations.

Is it important that Visual Studio 2008 thinks it's the wrong edition?

I installed Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition a month or so ago after a reformat (on Vista64, if that matters). I got it for free from one of those "Heroes Happen Here" launch events.
I then installed SQL Server 2008 Express Edition a week or so ago (we're supposed to be getting that for free in the mail but I gave up - a little too early apparently).
Before I installed SQL Server 2008 Express, when I would start up Visual Studio 2008 the splash screen would read "Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition". Now it says "Visual Studio 2008 Shell".
I figure that for whatever reason the VS2008 skeleton that ships with SQL2008 Express has stepped on the VS2008 skeleton I had there already. I know that if you install SQL2005 on a machine without VS2005, you get a "shell" version of VS2005 with no languages installed (no C#, VB.NET, etc.)
I figure this is no big deal since at worst some registry setting somewhere is wrong and the splash screen is just confused. But am I right? Or is this something that will bite me later when VS2008 for some reason denies me some feature?
To be honest, I wouldn't tempt it. This is sort of like a knock in the engine, but the car drives fine. Then one day you get stranded on the side of the road (or maybe not.) I would suggest an uninstall and a reinstall to be safe. I've had a similar run in with Visual Studio 2008 and that's exactly what I ended up doing.
I'd leave it alone. However, if the engine in my car knocks, I'm getting it rebuilt NOW while the fix is minor, rather than waiting for the catastrophic failure (voice of experience here). :-)
My experience with this on a couple machines is that there is nothing to be concerned about. If you look at the about screen within Visual Studio it should be telling you all the correct information. If your start it from the run command using "devenv /splash" you will likely see the correct splash information displayed too. If you want to get the correct splash screen to show everytime, edit your Visual Studio 2008 shortcut and clear the value from the Start In directory.
