How to cloak DOM element with AngularJS until input has value - angularjs

I'm trying to cloak a DOM element until an input field has any value in it. How can I achieve this with ng-cloak?
<div>
<input data-ng-model="search.$" placeholder="Search" type="text" id='search-bar' />
</div>
<div class="single_review text_centered">
This only displays if the #search-bar has an input value.
</div>

I believe you are looking for ng-show:
Example:
<div class="single_review text_centered" ng-show="search.$.length">
Demo: http://plnkr.co/edit/xDmsDOQC8R0qXHgl9VWl?p=preview
Note that if you only use ng-show="search.$" instead of ng-show="search.$.length" the div will not show if you type "f" or "false" as they are considered falsy.
An alternative is ng-if, but then the div would actually be inserted/removed from the DOM instead of just shown/hidden.

The ngCloak directive is used to prevent the Angular html template from being briefly displayed by the browser in its raw (uncompiled) form while your application is loading. Use this directive to avoid the undesirable flicker effect caused by the html template display.
This is not what you are trying to do. If you are on Angular 1.2+ (I believe) you can do
<div class="single_review text_centered" ng-if="search.$.length">
This only displays if the #search-bar has an input value.
</div>
Otherwise, you can do:
<div class="single_review text_centered" ng-show="search.$.length">
This only displays if the #search-bar has an input value.
</div>

Just an other way (more verbose ^^ but according to the note of #tasseKATT can be safer):
app.directive("myCloack", function() {
return {
link:function(scope,el){
el.css('display','none')
scope.$watch('search.$',function(newValue){
if(newValue){
el.css('display','block')
}
});
}
}
});
to play around
<div>
<input data-ng-model="search.$" placeholder="Search" type="text" id='search-bar' ng-init="mysearch=false" ng-change="mysearch=true" />
</div>
<div class="single_review text_centered" ng-show="mysearch" >
This only displays if the #search-bar has an input value.
</div>

ng-keyup firing but not reading properly when used with an ng-if inside a directive template

I have a directive and it works fine in a way such that when I type something the search() scope function inside my directive fires and sets $scope.query with the input text.
here is the directive template
<div class="container">
<div class="system-filter-header">
<div class="no-gutter">
<div class="system-search-wrapper search-wrapper-width">
<i ng-click="search($evt)" class="fa fa-search"></i>
<input type="text" ng-keyup=search($evt) class="search pull-left suggesstions-styles"
ng-model="query" ng-attr-placeholder="Search...">
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
here is the scope function which gets triggered
$scope.search = function() {
console.log($scope.query.length)
}
But when I used an ng-if="true" in first line of template (true used for generalizing only, I want to do a different conditional check inside ng-if) such that,
<div class="container" ng-if="true">
still the search gets triggered but the console.log gives always 0 and it doesn't seem to update the $scope.query value as it stays as $scope.query = ''
throughout the typing.
EDIT
Here is a an example codepen with almost similar behaviour. The problem is with the searchBox directive and I have added ng-if=true to the template but searching doesn't work. When I remove the ng-if searching works fine.
Any reason for this?
Rule of thumb in AngularJS: your ng-model should always include a dot. Otherwise AngularJS directives that create child scopes (like ng-if or ng-repeat) will create a duplicate property on that child scope instead of the parent scope. Following the controllerAs convention completely mitigates this behavior.

AngularJS- How to handle each button created by ng-repeat

I am new to AngularJS.
I have created <li> to which I used ng-repeat.
<li> contains images and buttons like like, comment and share which is inside <li> and created by ng-repeat.
I have made function which will replace empty like button to filled like button (By changing background image of button).
But problem is this trigger applies to only first like button and other buttons does not change.
How can I fix this?
Code:
HTML:
<html>
<body>
<ul>
<li ng-repeat="media in images"><div class="imgsub">
<label class="usrlabel">Username</label>
<div class="imagedb">
<input type="hidden" value="{{media.id}}">
<img ng-src="{{ media.imgurl }}" alt="Your photos"/>
</div>
<!-- <br><hr width="50%"> -->
<div class="desc">
<p>{{media.alt}}</p>
<input type="button" class="likebutton" id="likeb" ng-click="like(media.id)" ng-dblclick="dislike(media .id)"/>
<input type="button" class="commentbutton"/>
<input type="button" class="sharebutton"/>
</div>
</div> <br>
</li><br><br><br>
</ul>
</body>
</html>
JS:
$scope.like = function(imgid)
{
document.
getElementById("likeb").
style.backgroundImage = "url(src/assets/like-filled.png)";
alert(imgid);
}
$scope.dislike = function(imgid)
{
document.
getElementById("likeb").
style.backgroundImage = "url(src/assets/like-empty.png)";
}
Thanks for help & suggestions :)
The id for each button should be unique but in your case, it's the same for all buttons ('likeb').
You can set the value of the attribute 'id' for each button dynamically by using '$index' and passing '$index' to the functions as follows:
<input type="button" class="likebutton" id="{{$index}}" ng-click="like($index)" ng-dblclick="dislike($index)"/>
Then in your controller, you can use the functions with the passed value.
For example,
$scope.like = function(index)
{
document.
getElementById(index).
style.backgroundImage = "url(src/assets/like-filled.png)";
}
Another good alternative in your case would be to use the directive ngClass.
use 2 css class for styling liked and disliked state, and then put the class conditionally with ng-class instead of DOM handling. and if you really want to perform a DOM operation (I will not recommend) then you can pass $event and style $event.currentTarget in order to perform some operation on that DOM object.

Opening other element on focus on current one Angular JS

In my controller I have input box and a div with text.
By default div is set to display:none
I want to make div visible by focusing on input box.
Is it possible to do with angular.js
Try this (No need to set you div display:none, initally showDiv is false and your div will be hidden):
<body ng-controller="myController" ng-init="showDiv=false">
<input type="text" ng-focus="showDiv=true">
<div ng-show="showDiv"></div>
</div>
Yea Angular makes it super easy without even having to write anything in controller, here's an example:
https://plnkr.co/edit/OqLpGxWwfPaBTVdTBYDy?p=preview
<body ng-controller="MainCtrl">
<input type="text" ng-hide="show" />
<button ng-click="show = !show">Show / Hide</button>
</body>
Obviously you could make yours on a hover instead of a click but you get the idea.

AngularJS - One controller on two sibling DOM elements

I'm trying to do a very simple thing. I'm displaying a list of values with Edit links beside them. Clicking the edit link reveals a form that lets you update the value.
(I've simplified the question so the items just have one field "name". My actual use case has more fields, but is canonically equivalent.)
I've run into something that looks like a bug in Angular, but given my limited experience with it, I'm not so sure. Here's how I'm trying to do it:
<div ng-repeat-start="item in items" ng-controller="ItemCtrl as ctrl" ng-hide="ctrl.isEditing">
<span>Name: {{item.name}}.</span>
<a href='#' ng-click='ctrl.startEditing()'>Edit</a>
</div>
<div ng-repeat-end ng-show="ctrl.isEditing">
<input type='text' ng-model='item.name'/>
<a href='#' ng-click='ctrl.save()'>Save</a>
</div>
My controller looks like this:
app.controller('ItemController', function() {
this.isEditing = false;
this.startEditing = function() { this.isEditing = true; }
this.save = function() { this.isEditing = false; }
});
Clicking on Edit link calls the right controller function, and the first div hides. But the second div does not hide.
When I rearrange the code to look like this (essentially wrapping the two divs with a wrapper element), all is well.
<div ng-repeat="item in items" ng-controller="ItemCtrl as ctrl">
<div ng-hide="ctrl.isEditing">
<span>Name: {{item.name}}.</span>
<a href='#' ng-click='ctrl.startEditing()'>Edit</a>
</div>
<div ng-show="ctrl.isEditing">
<input type='text' ng-model='item.name'/>
<a href='#' ng-click='ctrl.save()'>Save</a>
</div>
</div>
Any idea what is technically wrong with the first version? Note that the <input> boxes do get populated with the right values from item.name.
PS: There's a reason why I'm trying to keep the two divs siblings: in my use case, they are actually implemented as two trs which are supposed to appear right below each other in a table.
It's not a bug from angular but it is quite logical.
<div ng-repeat-start="item in items" ng-controller="ItemCtrl as ctrl" ng-hide="ctrl.isEditing">
<span>Name: {{item.name}}.</span>
<a href='#' ng-click='ctrl.startEditing()'>Edit</a>
</div>
<div ng-repeat-end ng-show="ctrl.isEditing">
<input type='text' ng-model='item.name'/>
<a href='#' ng-click='ctrl.save()'>Save</a>
</div>
If you see the above code you have injected controller only to the first div so obviously sibling div doesn't know what is ctrl or ItemCtrl until and unless you do as in you second way.
So if you want to achieve it as sibling, if you are using routing then add the controller attribute in your route path.
So that the controller will be active for that entire template and you can achieve what you want.
Hope it helps.
Thats because controller has its own scope. When you placed controller ONLY on your first div controllers' scope is limited to only this one div. When you wrapped both your divs inside another and place controller on wrapper, controllers' scope now is all that inside this wrapper. So in this case this works fine and this is not the angular bug

How to write a directive which can render some html code with angular directives, and show it as text?

I think some sample code can explain my purpose.
Some html code with angular:
<div ng-init="buttons=['add','edit','delete']">
<div show-result-as-text>
<button ng-repeat="button in buttons">{{button}}</button>
</div>
</div>
You can see there is a custom directive "show-result-as-text" which I want to define. It should render the inner html code with angular directives, then show them as text.
The final html should be:
<div ng-init="buttons=['add','edit','delete']">
<div show-result-as-text>
<button>add</button>
<button>edit</button>
<button>delete</button>
</div>
</div>
And when the buttons value changes, the escaped html should also be changed.
I've tried to write one myself, but failed after 2 hours of work.
UPDATE
A live demo: http://plnkr.co/edit/fpqeTJefd6ZwVFEbB1cw
The closest thing I could think of is exemplified here: http://jsfiddle.net/bmleite/5tRzM/
Basically it consists in hiding the src element and append a new element that will contain the outerHTML of each src child.
Note: I don't like the solution but it works, so I decided to share it...
