I have very recently been assigned to an EPiServer project. I'm .Net developer however, I had never had a pleasure of actually working with ES.
I have been given a task of creating a soft "integration" with SoundCloud. Our users would like to copy/paste URL to a SoundCloud song - which then I can use their API to actually get all information of the audio. (title, description, tags etc).
So what I have created so far
SoundcloudPageType (contains simple properties like title, description, duration etc.)
I have written little POC for Soundcloud API that gets me all information and deserializes it into object.
What I need now is a bridge between those two. I thought that creating something like "PageLinkReference" where you can click [...] button which would then ask you for "URL to SoundCloud audio", once person enters that I would do a REST api call to pre-populate all other properties on the page.
Now, this is just an idea. I would like to run it past you guys to see if
It is possible.
What is the best way of doing this and are there any tutorials that do something similar.
I do not want to hack and slash my way through EPiServer but to utilise what EPiServer might already provide.
I would add a short string property to the SoundcloudPageType and let the users paste into that field.
If you are using PageTypeBuilder something like this:
[PageTypeProperty(
EditCaption = "Soundcloud Url",
Type = typeof(PropertyString),
SortOrder = 2010,
UniqueValuePerLanguage = false,
Searchable = true)]
public virtual string SoundcloudUrl { get; set; }
Then you could either fetch "on request" or fetch and store (easiest on other properties you've added) in one of EPi's save events. Take a look at Joel's article of common patterns when integrating with EPi:
http://joelabrahamsson.com/episerver-integration-patterns/
You could use the oEmbed dynamic content plugin, which should support soundcloud

I am looking to create a feature whereby a User can download any available documents related to the item from a tab on the PDP.
So far I have created a custom record called Documentation (customrecord_documentation) containing the following fields:
Related item : custrecord_documentation_related_item
Type : custrecord_documentation_type
Document : custrecord_documentation_document
Description : custrecord_documentation_description
Related Item ID : custrecord_documentation_related_item_id
The functionality works fine on the backend of NetSuite where I can assign documents to an Inventory item. The stumbling block is trying to fetch the data to the front end of the SCA webstore.
Any help on the above would be much appreciated.
I've come at this a number of ways.
One way is to create a Suitelet that returns JSON of the document names and urls. The urls can be the real Netsuite urls or they can be the urls of your suitelet where you set up the suitelet to return the doc when accessed with action=doc&id=_docid_ query params.
Add a target <div id="relatedDocs"></div> to the item_details.tpl
In your ItemDetailsView's init_Plugins add
$.getJSON('app/site/hosting/scriptlet.nl...?action=availabledoc').
then(function(data){
var asHtml = format(data); //however you like
$("#relatedDocs").html(asHtml);
});
You can also go the whole module route. If you created a third party module DocsView then you would add DocsView as a child view to ItemDetailsView.
That's a little more involved so try the option above first to see if it fits your needs. The nice thing is you can just about ignore Backbone with this approach. You can make this a little more portable by using a service.ss instead of the suitelet. You can create your own ssp app for the function so you don't have to deal with SCAs url structure.
It's been a while, but you should be able to access the JSON data from within the related Backbone View class. From there, within the return context, output the value you're wanting to the PDP. Hopefully you're extending the original class and not overwriting / altering the core code :P.
The model associated with the PDP should hold all the JSON data you're looking for. Model.get('...') sort of syntax.
I'd recommend against Suitelets for this, as that's extra execution time, and is a bit slower.
I'm sure you know, but you need to set the documents to be available as public as well.
Hope this helps, thanks.
I am writing a Chrome extension using AngularJS to add functionality to the Soundcloud stream page. I want to allow the user to create groups of artists so that they may only see a stream with tracks/shares/playlists from that group of artists.
For example, I follow 500 artists, but I want to quickly see a stream from my favorite 10 artists or from the artists I follow that are on the same label.
I am looking for advice on how I could go about making this as seamless as possible. As of right now, my approach involves getting the tracks with the Soundcloud API and using angular's ng-repeat to display the tracks in a view injected into where the stream normally goes. I realized using the Soundcloud widget was too slow and can't be customized to resemble the native stream items, so I copy/pasted the HTML that an actual stream item uses, but obviously the waveform/comment canvas and button functionality don't work.
What are my options as far as how I can approach this? Am I going to need to write my own players that look like the native Soundcloud ones? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
You should use the SoundCloud API which is very well documented.
If you have already the id's of the tracks / artist, you just have to request the url
GET
http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/ID_OF_TRACK.json?client_id=YOUR_CLIENT_ID
to get all the informations you need about this track, like the waveform_url, and for the comments you was talking about :
GET
http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/ID_OF_TRACK/comments.json?client_id=YOUR_CLIENT_ID
To reproduce the behaviour of the comments :
POST http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/ID_OF_TRACK/comments.json?client_id=YOUR_CLIENT_ID
(with a body param which represents the text and a timestamp in ms since the beginnin of the song, note that you must be connected)
If you don't have the id of the track, you could also use the resolve which give you all the info about a ressource if you have only the URL :
GET
http://api.soundcloud.com/resolve.json?url=https://soundcloud.com/poldoore/pete-rock-c-l-smooth-they&client_id=YOUR_CLIENT_ID
I have a simple entity class in a WPF application that essentially looks like this:
public class Customer : MyBaseEntityClass
{
private IList<Order> _Orders;
public virtual IList<Order> Orders
{
get { return this._Orders; }
set {this._Orders = new ObservableCollection<Order>(value);}
}
}
I'm also using the Fluent automapper in an offline utility to create an NHibernate config file which is then loaded at runtime. This all works fine but there's an obvious performance hit due to the fact that I'm not passing the original collection back to NHibernate, so I'm trying to add a convention to get NHibernate to create the collection for me:
public class ObservableListConvention : ICollectionConvention
{
public void Apply(ICollectionInstance instance)
{
Type collectionType =
typeof(uNhAddIns.WPF.Collections.Types.ObservableListType<>)
.MakeGenericType(instance.ChildType);
instance.CollectionType(collectionType);
}
}
As you can see I'm using one of the uNhAddIns collections which I understand is supposed to provide support for both the convention and INotification changes, but for some reason doing this seems to break lazy-loading. If I load a custom record like this...
var result = this.Session.Get<Customer>(id);
...then the Orders field does get assigned an instance of type PersistentObservableGenericList but its EntityId and EntityName fields are null, and attempting to expand the orders results in the dreaded "illegal access to loading collection" message.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong and/or what I need to do to get this to work? Am I correct is assuming that the original proxy object (which normally contains the Customer ID needed to lazy-load the Orders member) is being replaced by the uNhAddIns collection item which isn't tracking the correct object?
UPDATE: I have created a test project demonstrating this issue, it doesn't reference the uNhAddins project directly but the collection classes have been added manually. It should be pretty straightforward how it works but basically it creates a database from the domain, adds a record with a child list and then tries to load it back into another session using the collection class as the implementation for the child list. An assert is thrown due to lazy-loading failing.
I FINALLY figured out the answer to this myself...the problem was due to my use of ObservableListType. In NHibernate semantics a list is an ordered collection of entities, if you want to use something for IList then you want an unordered collection i.e. a Bag.
The Eureka moment for me came after reading the answer to another StackOverflow question about this topic.
I have the next issue.
I have a custom object called 'Application', and I have this requirement:
"Show all Contacts related to an Application. Create a field on Application object, must be read only".
I solve it with apex code. 'Application' has a lookup to Opportunity, Opportunity to Account, and all my contacts have AccountId, so this way, I get all the contacts using apex code in a trigger.
But, I've been ask to change this to a Formula field in Application object.
So, my issue is next. I'm not able to get all contacts with advance formula editor, because they're not part of any object. I have no master-detail relationship.
Does any one know how can I achieve this using configuration? I should not use apex code for this req.
Thank in advance guys.
I don't think you can do it.
In formulas / merge fields syntax there's no way to go "up, up then down" (Application -> Opportunity -> Account -> down to Contacts related list). There's also nothing that would let you loop through Contacts (and display what? Ids? Names? Emails?). Roughly speaking you can only go up through dots.
You might want to explore path of "cross object workflow" rules but I imagine that when I add a new Contact to Account it should somehow "spread itself" to all related Applications? There's no straight way to fire a workflow on delete too - so you'd eventually end up with inaccurate list.
I'd say trigger was a good solution. Maybe it ws unoptimized but if it has to be in a field - tough.
There might be a fairly simple way of achieving that by embedding a visualforce page within Application page layout.
This should be doable with pure Visualforce (so technically there will be no Apex code ;))
Something as simple as
<apex:relatedList list="Contacts" subject="Application__c.Opportunity__r.AccountId" />
would be a good start (if you want your own layout and not a rel. list - you should be still able to pull it off with <apex:repeat> or <apex:pageBlockTable>.
There's one BUT here: it's not a field, just a display trick. Forget about using it in reports, mobile applications etc.
Another way - would it be acceptable to be 1 click away from these contacts? You could make a report "Account with Contacts", filter it by Id of one Account and later use "URL hacking" to change the filter depending on from which Application you'll click it. This link could be either a formula field or a real custom button/link. Technically - it's pure config, no apex & VF.
You can read more about URL hacking at Ray Dehler's excellent post and specifically about dynamic Reports here or here.
what is the best way to load dropdown lists from reference/lookup tables for a desktop application?
the application is layed out into 3 tiers. I've built up my entities.
the front end has a form with 6 tabs. and one big save (another discussion :)
Should I load them all when the form is initially loaded? Are there any caching mechanisms I could use?
it is vb.net app on a network drive that is accessed by several users.
it's also worth noting that some reference tables may be updated. Via another form.
thanks
T
Lots of factors. One you need to populate in constructor so the data is there to populate the visual elements. Beware that just because a tab is not visible does not mean it is not loaded when you app starts.
For a static list of strings
public class Library : INotifyPropertyChanged
{
private List<string> dropDown1;
public List<string> DropDown1 { get { return dropDown1; } }
public Library()
{
// use data reader to populate dropDown1
}
}
I know this will get comments that can use something lighter than a List but List has a lot of nice features, easy syntax, and easy to populate. As a next step you could structure as a client server and use some static so the list is populated once and then shared by all. If you have more properties then substitute string with a class. For a dynamic list then in the get you grab the current data from the table on demand. In your get you could hold on to the last list and if the next request is within X seconds then return stale data. It depends on if stale data is acceptable.
There are many other approaches and I do not pretend this is the best. Just putting out a relatively simple example to get you started.
When it gets to hierarchical then things get a little more complex. There you can use ADO.NET table to store the static dependent data and then apply a filter on a view.
If its a web page you don't have to load all tabs on page load.
Desktop i think it will be more easy and it should be like that.
Only when the user click on the tab show the page and hide all the pages
associated for other tabs.
i hope all tab pages values will be on session so that user can go and come back to any tab and your Big Save at last.
