VB.Net - Excel application get showing values of an range - arrays

I'm trying get an Excel Range and copy into an array of objects with Vb.Net.
This is not a problem. I use the following code:
Dim vValues(,) As Object = ExcelApp.Range(vRange).Value
And works fine; but I have a the following case:
In the column "C"; the value has a specific format and internally has another value.
My question is:
Somebody know the way to get the information exact as the user see?
I'm trying to get the information without use a For ... Each or some kind of cycle.
I'm also tried to avoid use "text to columns" function.
Both seems right solutions, but would impact the performance with a lot of data.
FYI: Also I can get the information through the ODBC connection; but I'm searching the solution using a Range

Exactly what the user sees is the Text property. But you cannot have an array of that, you will have to query each cell individually.
You are getting a Double value in your array instead of a DateTime value because you have "Time" formatting applied in Excel. If you had a format from the "Date" category, Excel would instead send a proper Variant/Date, not a Double that represents it.
Another option would be constructing the DateTime objects on the .NET side, provided you know in which columns they should be.

Display a list of string in a textbox in SSRS

I've been working on reports using SQL Server Reporting Services and I've come with a problem.
I have a report that contains multiple datasets. Let's say I have those datasets:
DatasetPotatoes
DatasetUnicorns
DatasetJobs
My report is using a XML to get the value of my fields. Let's say my XML is the following :

<fieldname>blabla</fieldname>

I'd like to be able to put in a single textbox all the values of my List(Of String) (so all my <string> values) are like that : Job1, Job2, Job3.
Here is an example of how my textbox are populated using an expression:
=First(Fields!fieldname.Value, "DatasetPotatoes")
Do you know if it's possible to get all my <string></string> values? Or a least get an array of my <string></string> values so I can format it using VB.NET code?
Set up a parameter using a query/dataset that defaults and available to all of the values/items you wish to be shown together in one field.
on the report insert a field and set the expression to be :
=join(Parameters!Parameters.Value, " , " )
View the report and all of the items will appear in a single field.
Maybe this is useful for someone: if you need this outside any data region, and you do not want to create a parameter, this way works for me:
=Join(LookupSet(1, 1, Fields!Name.Value,"SalesMen"),", ")
I use it because I think it is clearer than using a parameter.

How to retrieve the name of a file and store it in the database using SSIS package?

I'm doing an Excel loop through fifty or more Excel files. The loop goes through each Excel file, grabs all the data and inputs it into the database without error. This is the typical process of setting delay validation to true, and making sure that the expression for the Excel Connection is a string variable called EFile that is set to nothing (in the loop).
What is not working: trying to input the name of the Excel file into the database.
What's been tried (edit; SO changed my 2 to 1 - don't know why):
Add a derived column between the Excel file and database input, and add a column using the EFile expression (so under Expression in the Derived Column it would be #[User::EFile]). and add the empty. However, this inputs nothing a blank (nothing).
One suggestion was to add ANOTHER string variable and set its properties EvaluateAsExpression to True and set the Expression to the EFile variable (#[User::EFile]). The funny thing is that this does the same thing - inputs a blank into the database.
Numerous people on blogs claim they can do this, yet I haven't seen one actually address this (I have a blog and I will definitely be showing people how to do this when I get an answer because, so far, these others have fallen short). How do I grab an Excel file's name and input it in a database during a loop?
Added: Forgot to add, no scripts; the claim is that it can be done without them, so I want to see the solution without them.
Note: I already have the ability to import the data from the Excel files - that's easy (see my GitHub account, as I have two different projects for importing all sorts of txt, csv, xls, xlsx data). I am trying to also get the actual name of the file being imported also into the database. So, if there are fifty Excel files, along with the data in each file, the database will have the fifty file names alongside that data (so if each file has 1000 rows of data, each 1000 rows would also have the name of the file they came from next to them as an additional column). This point seems to cause a lot of confusion, as people assume I'm having trouble importing data in files - NOPE, see my GitHub; again that's easy. It's the FILENAME that needs to also be imported.

Solution: #jaimet pointed out that the Derived Column needed to be the #[User::CurrentFile] (see the test package). When I first ran the package, I still got a blank value in my database. But when we originally set up the connection, we do point it to an actual file (I call this "fooling the package"), then change the expression on the connecting later to the #[User::CurrentFile], which is blank. The Derived Column, using the variable #[User::CurrentFile], showed a string of 0. So, I removed the Derived Column, put the full file path and name in the variable, then added the variable to the Derived Column (which made it think the string was 91 characters long), then went back and set the variable to nothing (English teacher would hate the THENs about right now). When I ran the package, it inputted the full file path. Maybe, like the connection, it needs to initially think that a file exists in order for it to input the full amount of characters?

The issue is because of blank value in the variable #[User::FileNameInput] and this caused the SSIS package to assume that the value of this variable will always be of zero length in the Derived Column transformation.
Change the expression on the Derived column transformation from #[User::FileNameInput] to (DT_STR, 2000, 1252)#[User::FileNameInput].
Type casting the derived column to 2000 sets the column length to that maximum value. The value 1252 represents the code page. I assumed that you are using ANSI code page. I took the value 2000 from your table definition because the FilePath column had variable VARCHAR(2000). If the column data type had been NVARCHAR(2000), then the expression would be (DT_WSTR, 2000)#[User::FileNameInput]

You're using the wrong variable in your Derived Column component. You are storing the filename in #[User::CurrentFile] but the variable that you're using in your Derived Column component is #[User::FileNameInput]
Change your Derived Column component to use #[User::CurrentFile] and you'll be good.

If you are using a ForEach loop to process the files in a folder then I have have used the technique described in SSIS Junkie's blog to get the filename in to an SSIS variable: SSIS: Enumerating files in a Foreach loop
You can use the variable later in your flow to write it to the database.
TO all intents and purposes your method #1 should work. That's exactly how I would attempt to do it. I am baffled as to why it is not working. Could you perhaps share your package?

Database access excel formatting or if statement or grouping

I have a database formatting problem in which I am trying to concatenate column "B" rows based on column "A" rows. Like So:

So I'd like to solve this problem within Excel or Access. Its currently an access database, but I can export it to excel easily. As you can see, I want to find "userid" in column A and where there are multiple column A's such as "shawn" I'd like to combine the multiple instances of shawn and concatenate property num as such.
Even though there are multiple instances of column A still, I could just filter all unique instances of the table later. My concern is how to concatenate column B with a "|" in the middle if column A has multiple instances.
This is just a segment of my data (There is a lot more), so I would be very thankful for your help.
The pseudo code in my head so far is:
If( Column A has more than one instance)
Then Concatenate(Column B with "#"+ "|" +"#")
I'm also wondering if there is a way to do this on access with grouping.

In excel we can achieve it easily by custom function in vba module. Hopefully using vba(Macros) is not an issue for you.
Here is the code for the function which can be added in vba. (Press Alt+F11, this will take you to visual editor, right click the project and add a module. Add the below code in module)

This function you can use in excel in F Column of your example. Copy the below formulla in F2 and the copy paste the cell to rest of F column. =ConcatenatePipe($A$2:$A$20,$B$2:$B$20,E2)
I believe you can solve this with an SQL GROUP BY function. At least, here's how I'd do it in MySQL or similar:
SELECT userid, GROUP_CONCAT(propertynum SEPARATOR '|') FROM Names GROUP BY userid

Why does a number imported to SQL Server from Excel contain the letter e?

I have got a excel sheet which inserts data in to SQL Server, but noticed for a particular field, the data is being inserted with e, this particular field is of type varchar and size 20.
Why is e being inserted when the actual data for these respective fields is 54607677038, 77200818179 and 9920996.

You may think of '2007038971' as being just a string of numbers (some kind of article code, I guess). Excel just sees numbers and treats it as a numerical value. It probably is right aligned (default for numbers) and not left-aligned (default for strings).
When asked to store in as a string, it 'helpfully' formats that number into a string, thereby introducing that "e" notation (the value 2007038971 is about 2.00704 * 10^9).
You need to convince Excel that that code really is a string, maybe by adding a quote in front of it.
How about this. When you read value from excel, then convert ToString() and insert into DB. Need to change relevant data type based on data in your excel.

Copy data from lookup column with multiple values to new record Access 2007

I am copying a record from one table to another in Access 2007. I iterate through each field in the current record and copy that value to the new table. It works fine until I get to my lookup column field that allows multiple values. The name of the lookup column is "Favorite Sports" and the user can select multiple values from a dropdown list.
I believe the values of a multivalued field are stored in an array but I cannot access the values in VBA code! I've tried myRecordset.Fields("myFieldName").Value(index) but it didn't work. I don't understand how Access stores multiple values in one field.
I saw something about ItemsSelected on another forum but I don't know what Object is associated with that method.

I would recommend against using multivalue fields for precisely the reason you're running into, because it's extremely complex to refer to the data stored in this simple-to-use UI element (and it's for UI that it's made available, even though it's created in the table design).
From your mention of "ItemsSelected," you seem to be assuming that you access the data in a multivalue field the same way you would in a multiselect listbox on a form. This is not correct. Instead, you have to work with it via a DAO recordset. The documentation for working with multivalue fiels explains how to do it in code, something like this:

Now, given that you can usually access the properties of a recordset object through its default collections, you'd expect that Me.Recordset("MyField").Value would be returning a recordset object that is navigable through the default collection of a recordset, which is the fields collection. You'd think you could do this:
Me.Recordset("MyField").Value!Value.Value
This should work because the recordset returned is a one-column recordset with the column name "Value" and you'd be asking for the value of that column.
There are two problems with this:
it doesn't actually work. This means that Me.Recordset("MyField").Value is not reallly a full-fledged recordset object the way, say, CurrentDB.OpenRecordset("MyTable") would be. This is demonstrable by trying to return the Recordcount of this recordset:
Me.Recordset("MyField").Value.Recordcount
That causes an error, so that means that what's being returned is not really a standard recordset object.
even if it did work, you'd have no way to navigate the collection of records -- all you'd ever be able to get would be the data from the first selected value in your multivalued field. This is because there is no way in this shortcut one-line form to navigate to a particular record in any recordset that you're referring to in that fashion. A recordset is not like a listbox where you can access both rows and columns, with .ItemData(0).Column(1), which would return the 2nd column of the first row of the listbox.
So, the only way to do this is via navigating the child DAO recordset, as in the code sample above (modelled on that in the cited MSDN article).
Now, you could easily write a wrapper function to deal with this. Something like this seems to work:

Using that model, you could also write code to concatenate the values into a list, or return the count of values (so you could call that first in order to avoid the error message when your index exceeded the number of values).
As cool as all of this is, and as nice as the UI that's presented happens to be (it would be really nice if they'd added selection checkboxes as a type for a multiselect listbox), I'd still recommend against using it precisely because it's so much trouble to work with. This just takes the problem of the standard lookup field (see The Evils of Lookup Fields in Tables) and makes things even worse. Requiring DAO code to get values out of these fields is a pretty severe hurdle to overcome with a UI element that is supposed to make things easier for power users, seems to me.
For a quick and dirty way of getting the values out of a multivalued ('complex data') column, you can use an ADO Connection with the Jet OLEDB:Support Complex Data connection property set to False e.g. the connection string should look something like this:

Data Source=C:\dbs\TestANSI92.accdb;
Jet OLEDB:Engine Type=6;
Jet OLEDB:Support Complex Data=False
The multivaled type column will now be of type MEMO (adLongVarWChar) with each value separated by a semicolon ; character.
But that's only half the problem. How to get data into a multivalued column?
The Access Team seem to have neglected to enhance the Access Database Engine SQL syntax to accommodate multivalued types. The 'semicolon delimiter' trick doesn't work in reverse e.g.
INSERT INTO TestComplexData (ID, weekday_names_multivalued)
VALUES (5, 'Tue;Thu;Sat');
fails with the error, "Cannot perform this operation", ditto when trying to update via ADO recordset :(
