Creating a grid layout for GTK+ - c

I'm writing an application in C and i'm using GTK+ for the GUI part. I was reading about the layout part and how I need to organize my into into grids using vertical boxes and horizontal boxes. However I read on some forum that the use of gtk_vbox_new() function is deprecated. What are the best ways to create a grid so that I can position my widgets using GTK+? Should I use a table and just juggle with that or is there any way that I can position my elements similar to how I position elements in HTML with CSS?

gtk_vbox_new is deprecated in favor of using gtk_box_new and passing in GTK_ORIENTATION_VERTICAL. If you need a tabular layout, GtkGrid is the way to go (don't use the deprecated GtkTable).
A good way to design your layout is to use Glade. Even if you end up hard-coding the widgets instead of using GtkBuilder, Glade will allow you to quickly layout the widgets and experiment with different designs in real time.

Does Angular have a flex layout like extjs?

ExtJS has a very useful layout mechanism called flex. It works by summing all the things on a row or in a column. Then the space is parceled out using the flex value divided by the sum of all the flex values. This results in a layout like below:
The Red box is an hbox layout, the blocks E and F have the given flex values that sum up to 3, so E gets 1/3 the width of the screen, and F gets 2/3rds.
The Blue box is another hbox layout, where all 4 pieces (A-D) have the same flex so each one gets 25% of the space.
What isn't shown is the surrounding vbox layout where the blue box has a flex of 22 and the red box has a flex of 78.
Is there anything like this kind of layout in Angular? If there isn't, how would you put this together in Angular?
Additional information based on some of the answers below:
I want to be able to replace extjs with Angular. To do that I need some functionality that I have in extjs that I don't know exists in Angular. I've found ways to watch for screen size, change to adjust the overall display size, but I haven't seen a good example yet of a directive that essentially introspects its constituent directives for this flex value and sets their size based on a size change event of the container. Flex doesn't work from inside the divs, it works inside the container of the divs, because it has to go across all the divs in the container to divide the space correctly. I haven't seen an angular directive that does this yet.
I have no actual development experience with Angular yet (I've watched many of the videos from http://egghead.io, I've read documentation and tutorials, listened to this podcast: JSJ-Angular) and so I don't know if this is something that is easy to solve, or hard to solve, or if someone has already solved it. This flex layout is wickedly cool and easy to use, in fact for full page apps, I'm not sure there is an easier way to lay them out so that they stay full screen and are malleable to screen size changes. Grid systems are great for some things, but they don't address what the flex system addresses.
I'm trying to see if there is a way to leap from extjs to Angular without really making my life difficult.

Interesting to see the illustration calls it the Holy Grail Layout example. Of course IE won't implement it right, or in a timely fashion, but my customers don't mind using Chrome if it gets the job done.

You missing the point. Angular is only JS library that helps you with:
modularization your code
allow you load content asynchronously
change content using "magic" (two-way bindings)
etc.
It doesn't describe style of your site. You have to do it by yourself or use one of popular fluid/responsive CSS frameworks, i.e.:
Bootstrap by Twitter
Zurb Foundation
Inuit.css
Pure
Gumby
Metro UI
etc.
Just choose yourself and then apply to your site. Using that also make your design independent from JS (which is very bad) and JS framework (which is 9th circle of hell).

Can I create a motion colorizing pixel shader in WPF?

I have a video playing of lines being drawn on the screen. Is it possible to create a pixel shader (for WPF) that turns newly colored pixels a certain color for N milliseconds?
That way, there can be some indication to the user to movement on the screen when the lines don't move often and the user isn't always looking at the screen.
You can use DirectShow. Its written in unmanaged code, so you need to use this wrapper DirectShow.NET in order to use it in your C# application which is running in managed environment (samples are included, even with EVR which stands for Enhanced video Renderer which means MUCH better video quality). And when you will be passing a control handle to wrapper method for setting the video output, you need a WinForms control, because only from them you can get your desired control handle. That WinForms control you can then host in your WPF application using the WindowsFormsHost control provided for such situations when you need to use some WinForms control(s) in a WPF application. Its just theory, so i dont know if its an ultimate solution for you.
BTW: The whole idea is based on fact, that DirectShow is just some query constructed from separated filters. Renderer is a filter (EVR, VMR-7, VMR-9). Sound player is a filter. And they are connected through their pins. Its like a diagram. Electronic schema or something like that. And you can put for example Grey scale filter in there. And voila, video output will be greyscale. There is a bunch of tutorials for that. And completed simple filters as well. Unfortunately, filters must be written in C++:(

How to build the following visual

I am not a real designer and I would like to know if anyone have an idea how can I build the following visual :
The idea is to get 2 rings where inside I will draw secific number of pie represented as "Interactive shape or button". Base on the number of shape, they should cover the whole circle.
In addition to that, I need to be able to interact with each pie shape, and inside and oustide edge of those shape should be a perfect arc based on the circle diameter.
As I am not a perfect designer, how can I represent this visual ?
I was thinking of using a custom panel but then how to draw each panel shape in order that they gets perfect inside and ouside arc and offer interactivity with each of them ?

If you didnt want to use that, you could always do it in javascript. Here's an example using Rapheal js
I would recommend looking into WPF Geometry and how you can create custom controls (such as the Circular Gauge Custom Control over on CodeProject) using said Geometry.
I've never created a control quite like what your suggesting, but I would image you would define some form of area that can contain children and style it so that it forms the circular shape you want. Then, adding interactive regions should be as simple as adding controls to standard containers.

Issues with rendering a large tiled map in WPF

What is the best way to manage a very large amount of images (10,000+) in WPF? This is for a 2d tile map editor similar to this : http://www.mapeditor.org/ .
At the moment i have a canvas with all tiles as an image and a list box which contains the different images to choose from. Each tile is added to the canvas as children and then stored in a list for later access. You paint into the canvas by setting the Source property of a tile to the one selected in the listbox. It works well with around 50x50 tile maps but anything above that causes loading delays, in general slow application.
Any suggestions on this? Would QT maybe be more suited instead of wpf?

Virtualized panels are efficient, because:
Only the displayed elements (and a few extra around the borders to enable smooth scrolling) are in the memory (and rendered).
Elements are reused, instead of being repeatedly created and discarded - an old cell is simply filled with new content (supplied with new DataContext) and used in new location.
You might also try to use WPF's DataGrid for this, it supports virtualization out of the box and is essentially what are you trying to do.
WPF is certainly able to do this, if implemented properly (if you can do that in JavaScript, you can certainly do it in WPF as well).

Gtk buttons over a Gtk drawing area

i' working with Gtk developing some app. I must put some buttons over a map. I'm drawing the map on a GtkDrawingarea, but i'm not able to put buttons over it.
Any suggestion?

Put both the drawing area and the buttons inside a GtkFixed container. Probably not the best solution, because GtkFixed has no way of controlling the z-ordering (other than the order in which you add the widgets to it?)
Instead of using GtkDrawingArea, use a canvas widget that can include other widgets, such as GooCanvas.
Why no other library? Any specific reason?
