I've been trying to figure how postgresql works for the last couple of days. There's something I don't get. Is there a way to see the data inside the tables graphically? Something similar to MySQL's phpMyadmin? Or can I only see the data by querying it?
Try pgadmin3. http://www.pgadmin.org/
If you are using a package manager on your machine like MacPorts, you can also download it using sudo port install pgadmin3.
Here are some example screenshots which will guide you to find where you can select "View Data".
Make sure your are connected to your postgresql server and the specific database you are interested in.
Then click into its hierarchy to open up public, which will contain another group named Tables, like this:-
There is a free program called pgAdmin that you can download from pgadmin.org.

I want to create a new schema in SSMS with the Schema - New dialog box but I can't find how.
I know it's supposed to open when I right click on the Databases/xyz/Security/Schemas folder in the Object Explorer and select New Schema... but all I get is a query to create it.
I just started an edX course called Developing SQL Databases, there are no instructions there concerning the SSMS settings, the only instructions say that I should be able to get the Schema - New dialog box. I asked there in the discussion but nobody replies, actually there's no activity there whatsoever so probably nobody even knows I asked.
I did google it but the only relevant results I found say the same thing, right-click, New Schema... and the dialog box opens. But it doesn't.
So, what am I missing?
Expand the database in the Object Explorer, and right-click the Security folder, then select "New" (the Security folder under the database, NOT the Security folder under the server).
I realize your question is how to do this in SSMS, but the tsql code for this is only five words.
create schema MyNewSchema authorization dbo;
That seems much simpler to me.
Be sure you are searching in a right folder.
the security folder is under the database , not under the server.

UPDATE:-
This issue is repeated here, and the soluation was the following:-
Full uninstall Manual
deletion of all MSSQL-folders in
AppData{Local|Roaming}
Reinstall
Checking for any updates
and everything is as expected, so try these steps.
A little bit of an odd issue here.
I have a database, hosted on SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2), that has 10 different schemas that could be used for reporting purposes:
Please note, for company compliance reasons, I did redact this image to the bare essentials.
Now, when I go to create a report, and connect to the database in question, the only schemas that are presented to me are those starting with lm_:
Again, redacted...
Now, for the purpose of the report I need to build, I need to be able to select against tables that are in one of the ls_ schemas.
My question is, in Crystal Reports 2013, how do I make all available schemas visible for use in a report?
Other important things to note:
I am able to log into SSMS as the same account I am using to connect to the database in Crystal Reports, and am able to successfully run queries against the schemas in question.
The account I am connecting to the database as, in both SSMS and CR, has full administrative access/capabilities against all schemas in the database in question
Points 1 and 2 would suggest that this is not a security related issue
I am connecting to the database in CR through an ODBC connection created on my system through ODBC Data Source Administration (32-bit) - as a System DSN
The ODBC Data Source uses the same administrative account being used directly in CR and SSMS
Thank you in advance for your help. Please let me know if there is any additional information that I can provide to help solve this issue.
I faced similar issue few years back, and as per my experience it has nothing to do with database and it is within the crystal reports where a registry value is set to minimum value which will restrict the display of schemas or tables
Check below link which will show you the path to change registry.
forumtopics.com/busobj/viewtopic.php?p=1004707
I would suggest you to first take back up of the original data and then change the value
Maybe this:
On the menu bar, select File –> Options.
Click the “Database” tab.
Uncheck the “Stored Procedures” option.
Someone on another forum said that worked but he did not know why.
There is a setting in Crystal under File-->Options-->Database where one can set owner like %. Perhaps your Crystal install has an old setting limiting your visible schemas?
For any one in 2022 who is facing this problem. Check the following:
Open odbc, 32 bits odbc.
Select your datasource and click configure
Click details
Select Metadata tab
Uncheck Disable Schema support and click Ok.
Solved, this is tested and working
I would like to ask, if it is possible to get my database from an offline (not functioning) xampp ?
You see, I have backed up my database earlier but I am not sure whether there are all the data I need now and the DB is pretty big (like 50 tables). I wanted to go for a local implementation of apache, mysql and PHP for my web applications. So I have reinstalled mysql and want to use my own local apache server instead of xampp.
I would like to know where can I find some .sql or something that is stored in xampp that could be otherwise accessible via the phpmyadmin? Is it even possible? I have scrolled through the xampp folder and tried to figure out where it can be, but didnt find anything though.
Thanks for help.
EDIT
I am on a mac running mavericks.
First go to localhost/phpmyadmin and create a database as before you have. Then import your database file through browse.
If your database name exmaple.sql then create database name will be example and import example.sql
I am a software developer with devlopment experience in C#, C++ .Net alongwith SQL Server 2005/08, Oracle and mysql. But somehow i dont get jBASE to work at Windows XP SP3 machine.
My goal is setup user accounts, create database on a JBASE ainstallation, authenticate and backup/restore few table via a C++ program. And i dont need to do it with builtin backup/restore tools of jBASE.
I am able to install jBASe 4.1 aling with all its accessories on my WINXPSP3 machine. I was able to run the jSlimserver and TEMENOUS server along with licnesing server. I was able to add the license key as well. But after that what i was supposed to do? i have no idea about it.
The docs and online help doesnt answer a simple question of how to create a database! The google search results from the jbase site all go to the 404 Pages!
Can a jBASE expert guide to the following steps:
Create a jBASE database.
Create users
Authenticate via those users
Connect to database
Create tables and insert data.
Connect via a C++ or C# program to connect to jBASE DB and backup/restore tables.
I know that this is too much too ask but i dont get to get the JBASE system. I cant get it to work on my System somehow. Btw, jdc and jexloree doesnt seem to do anything. I have checked that enironmental variables for jBASE are setup correctly and i have verified them. There are no extra JRE or JDK installations on my system. Besides all that, only licensing client, slim server and temenous server seem to run and listen for connections and no other execuatable ever seems to work.
A simple tutorial to achieve the objective will be highly appreciated. Also if anyone can point out the mistake that i have done or anything i might need to check, then please do so. I will be highly encouraged and obliged.
Thanks
Steve
I hope this will help, if you have not already found a why to do this.
Setup jBase User and Database
Create a Security Group called
'Jbase' or what every you want to
call it
Add a User to this group. I would
recommend adding your administrator
user to it as well
Create a folder in you file system
to save the database information
into
Assign the 'Jbase' Security group to
the folder, and give it "Full"
read/write/execute access.
Creating the database:
Make sure the current users you
are logged on with is the 'Jbase'
security group.
go to the command prompt, and CD
to the folder you create to store
the database
run the jShell 'jsh' from that
location
use CREATE-FILE to create the
files/tables you want to store your
information in.
Inserting data:
There are several ways to enter data. You can use ED, your can your programming environment, or you can create a quick MultiValue/jBase compiled server script to ask for the data and write them to a file/table.
I'm looking for a command line tool to generate DDL for both tables and indexes (nothing more complicated is needed) for some Sybase tables in databases that I take care of. I have access to GUI tools for viewing the individual DDLs, and I could cut and paste them, but I would like something that will go through all the tables in a database and generate some nice text files that I can get checked into CVS.
I tried using a tool called ddlgen, which was provided by Sybase, but it just threw exceptions like this:
bash-3.00# ./ddlgen -SdatabaseServer:4100 -Uusername -PsecretPassword -TDB -NdatabaseName
U64: null: databaseName.dbo.firstTable
U64: null: databaseName.dbo.firstTable

at com.sybase.ddlgen.container.DatabaseMetaContainer.open(DatabaseMetaContainer.java:114)
at com.sybase.ddlgen.DDLThread.run(DDLThread.java:89)
which wasn't very helpful. I keep thinking that there must be a nice Perlish way to do this, but I don't know what that would be.
You can also use the Perl-based dbschema.pl
http://www.isug.com/Sybase_FAQ/ASE/section9.html#9.3.2
use below command to get deffination
defncopy -P tester1 -S sqppdb2 -U pmestr -D ppdb2 -o tab4 ppdb2..tab4
Thanks
Download an evaluation version of Embarcadero DBArtisan and use its extract feature to get the DDL out.
You can turn Logging on in DBArtisan (Logfile ->Log SQL) and then see what SQL it's sending to Sybase to get the table DDL. Copy and paste the SQL in the logfile to a script that you run from the command line and that might work.
Apologies in advance if you are not using Windows...DBArtisan is Windows-only.
Another way of doing this is MyGeneration a code generator (like CodeSmith but open source) which uses templates to create code. That code could be anything you like - Sql, C# etc. I use Sql Server and I've used some of the freely available templates to create DDL as you specify, and automagically create NHibernate Mapping files too - brilliant.
ddlgen will give you what you require and works very well. You seem to be having an enviroment issue with Java. Try again and post the error that you have in it's entirety.
