I have a Silverlight dialog and it contains an autocompletebox. When the dialog opens I would like the autocompletebox populated with text and the dialog opening with suggestions pre-populated without any user input.
Does anyone know how to do this? I am looking for a way to trigger the populating event.
Thanks.
Found the answer to this. You need to set the text in the underlining textbox, and when you do this the autocomplete dropdown box will display. You need to use the VisualTreeHelper to get the textbox.
DependencyObject o = VisualTreeHelper.GetChild(autocompleteBox, 0);
o = VisualTreeHelper.GetChild(o,0);
((TextBox)(o)).Text = "yourtexthere";

I'm new to Visual Basic, I have scoured the net to look for the event handler for the combo box click event but I cannot locate it. I am trying to make an event happens if a certain index is selected with the combo box1 then another combo box2 will populate the selected the index.
i have looked at links like these but it does not explain how or what the person did to access the _ click event VB6 Combo box events
In the code window for the form, select the desired control from the left drop down, then the event you want from the list of all events in the right drop down:
It will create the procedure for you and make it the active one. This is the same as VB.NET assuming you have the selectors on.
I haven't been using VB6 for ages, but i think what you need is covered here: http://www.vb6.us/tutorials/visual-basic-combo-box-tutorial
I cannot recall having to do anything special when using click events in VB6 at all.
In the first combobox click event, you should be able to have an if statement checking if a certain item is selected using .ListIndex and if so, populate the other.
I would like to create a combobox without any textbox and with a customizable icon in the button that opens the combobox. Something like this image (forget about the checkboxs)
I don't need you to post the solution, just some directions or resources so I can know how to begin this customization.
TIA
ContextMenuStrip which you manually display in the button's Click handler.
I have been searching for a while now, and have not been able to find a load-on-demand combo box that populates itself depending on what is typed in the combo-box.
I also have a requirement that an item in the list must be selected (i.e.: free text can be entered but not "selected" - only a "search result" can be selected from the list in the combo box.
The scenario is as follows : there is a text box/combo box where someone enter the first 2 or 3 characters, a web service is called which queries a database and then populates the combo box.
Are there any controls or code example that anyone knows of? Or alternatively another way to implement this?
Here is a link to an asp.net control that has this functionality:
http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/combobox/examples/populatingwithdata/autocompletesql/defaultcs.aspx
use the event "textchanged" to dynamicly add/remove items :)
updated :
why not bind the results to observable collection and databind that to the combo box , so on chnage > query database > bind items to the collection , .net automatilcy updates the items , this might work :)
Telerik combobox with autocomplete will be what you are looking for.
is it possible to change a combo box to text box using vba?
As an addition to the suggestion about hiding the text box I have seen people use a text box to cover all but the dropdown arrow of the combo box (text box set to be on top of course) and then updated the text box on the after update event of the combo box
I forget why they did it that way in the end but it worked and IMHO is better than hiding the combo box as you might have issues with it still having focus
As far as I know there are two methods. If the form is in design mode then running;
Application.RunCommand acCmdChangeToTextBox
while the combobox is in focus will make it turn into a textbox.
However you cannot do this at runtime. Say you want to show a textbox after selecting a value from the combobox, on the Change event of the combobox you just hide it and show a textbox that was previously hidden. Use the visible property of the combobox and the textbox for this.
I have a problem regarding combobox dropdown. Once a dropdown is opened, if I want to move focus to other control (say a textbox), I need to click twice because on first click, the combo dropdown is closed and then on second click, the textbox gets focus. How should I fix this? Please help.
You could listen to the DropDownList.SelectedIndexChanged event, and in the event handler set focus to the next control, either by setting TextBox.Focus(), or by calling System.Windows.Forms.Control.SelectNextControl()
I think this would be 'non standard' behaviour for what its worth. Its quite normal to expect the user to tab or select the next control after using a drop down.
Edit: Sorry, in a WPF ComboBox the equivalent event is SelectionChanged, but on reflection you'd be better using OnDropDownClosed. This would mean you only move the focus specifically after using the drop down rather than just whenever the value changes.
