Chained reverse lookups in Django - django-models

I have [profile] --M2M--> [group] --FK--> [group category].
Given an instance of [group category], I need to retrieve all related [profile].
(In english: I have members belonging to one or more groups, which are in categories. I need to find all the members in a given category of group).
How do I span the ForeignKey and ManytoMany keys in between? No matter how I slice this, I always end up with an expression from which I can't define the next backward relationship.

Assuming something like:
object Profile():
groups = models.ManyToManyField('Group')

category = models.ForeignKey('GroupCategory')
You should be able to just query it:
profiles = Profile.objects.filter(groups__category=thegroupcategory)

Query of records based on relationships

I have an object Contract that has a look-up to another object Indexationtype. I have another object IndexationEntry that has master-detail to Indexationtype. Now I would like to get the value of the percentage field in the IndexationEntry onto Contract based on the yer fields. The year in the IndexationEntry matches Year in Contract. How should I achieve this?
From Contract "up" to IndexationType__c, then "down" to IndexationEntry__c?
If there's no direct link between them it's not going to be pretty. One way would be something like this
SELECT Id, Name,

FROM IndexationType__c
You'd have to run it once for each year. Or (since you tagged it Apex) maybe you can prepare the reference data a bit, query Indexation Types + Entries and build something like Map<Id, Map<Integer, IndexationEntry__c>> (1st key is by Indexation Type Id, then by year). Query them, populate the Map, then loop through your contracts and use map.get() to fetch your values.

Is there a way to assign a List to a field?

I know the question seems weird but hear me out...
Say I have a group of users called Managers.
List userList = [Manager1, Manager2,Manager3,...,ManagerN]
And I wanted to assign one of these managers to a record using a round robin which uses a modulus to determine the count.
integer count = 0;
integer userModulus = Math.round(Math.mod(Count, userList.size()));
count++;
Then use this value to return the index of the list like userList[userModulus] right?
Originally I planned to use custom metadata types to house the lists with the intent of managing these custom metadata lists by screen flow... but on implementation I don't see this being realistic.
Is there a way to store this list of users in a field, or some other kind of structure where it can be maintained by managers or other non-admin users?

Many ways to achieve this. You could have a field on the User (picklist? checkbox? being assigned a special Role?) and then
List<User> users = [SELECT Id, Name

Bit crude but should get the job done.
You could also add them to a public group or queue? Queues should be pretty close to normal owner assignment functionality anyway. And then you'd query all group/queue members. Queues are a type of group so it'd sit in same table: Group, GroupMember

FROM User

It's bit simple, it assumes people are directly assigned to the group. In reality groups/queues often consist of other groups, roles, roles+subordinates, not just manually assigned individuals... You'd need to keep querying the GroupMember records till you exhaust the tree.
Still, should be enough to get you started?

How to query all task which are having relatedto(whatId) as Account or Contact

I am using an soql query to get tasks. My requirement is to get all tasks which are related account or contact object. Also few other fields inside Account or contact object whichever the object related. Is there a simple way instead of writing multiple queries.
Please provide more specific information next time. Generally speaking you can refer to a parent object by reference name followed with a dot. Here is an example
Select Account.Name, AccountId From Task Where Account.Name = 'John'
Here Account is the name of the reference (from task) and AccountId is the referencing field.
Your question is a little unclear. Are you looking for all TASKS related to any ACCOUNT or CONTACT or related to specific ACCOUNTS or CONTACTS?
If the former, try
SELECT Id, Subject,

if the latter, use the IN :list syntax already suggested by Moti. The What.Type is useful, as opposed to AccountId!=null, because it will not return TASKS associated with, for example, OPPORTUNITIES (if you want that behavior, use AccountId!=null and maybe drop the Who.Type if you associate all CONTACTS with OPPORTUNITIES, as it would be redundant).
In either case, your issue will be pulling specific data from CONTACT whos, as polymorphic fields only allow access to a limited number of fields. Can't seem to find that list right now. I don't believe old SOQL supports the kind of the syntax to do that in one query--that's why SOQL polymorphism made such a bang--though I could be wrong.
Now, if you have SOQL TYPEOF available to you, you should be able to do something more interesting like:

How to sort a Doctrine DQL Query by the number or members of a relation?

I'm trying to create a query for retrieving objects from a Doctrine database, sorted by the number of members of a specific one-to-many relationship.
More specifically: I have two Entities: Person and Federation. A person can be a member of one federation (Person has 'federation' relationship), and a federation may have n people (Federation as 'people' relationship).
I would like to create a DQL Query that would return the list of Federations, ordered by how many people are members of that Federation. Something along these lines:
SELECT f FROM AcmeStatsBundle:Federation f ORDER BY [number of members of f.people]
That would be the first step. There is an additional second step, which I don't know if is possible to achieve with a single query, which would be filtering the members of the relation prior the counting. Like so:
SELECT f FROM AcmeStatsBundle:Federation f ORDER BY [number of (f.people p where p.attr = value)]
That second one would be the optimal result, but the first one satisfies my needs, if the second case is not feasibly in a single query.

You could do something along the lines of:

The HIDDEN keyword was added in Doctrine 2.2, it means that the selected field won't be in the results, and in this case that means you just get your entities back instead of an array.

There are 5 aggregate functions in DQL you can use (Doctrine 2.2): AVG, COUNT, MIN, MAX and SUM.
The following query should work:

Query to list all users of a certain group

How can I use a a search filter to display users of a specific group?
I've tried the following:
(&
(objectCategory=user)
(memberOf=MyCustomGroup)
)
and this:

(memberOf=cn=SingleSignOn,ou=Groups,dc=tis,dc=eg,dc=ddd,D‌​C=com)

but neither display users of a specific group.
memberOf (in AD) is stored as a list of distinguishedNames. Your filter needs to be something like:
(&(objectCategory=user)(memberOf=cn=MyCustomGroup,ou=ouOfGroup,dc=subdomain,dc=domain,dc=com))
If you don't yet have the distinguished name, you can search for it with:
(&(objectCategory=group)(cn=myCustomGroup))
and return the attribute distinguishedName. Case may matter.
For Active Directory users, an alternative way to do this would be -- assuming all your groups are stored in OU=Groups,DC=CorpDir,DC=QA,DC=CorpName -- to use the query (&(objectCategory=group)(CN=GroupCN)). This will work well for all groups with less than 1500 members. If you want to list all members of a large AD group, the same query will work, but you'll have to use ranged retrieval to fetch all the members, 1500 records at a time.
The key to performing ranged retrievals is to specify the range in the attributes using this syntax: attribute;range=low-high. So to fetch all members of an AD Group with 3000 members, first run the above query asking for the member;range=0-1499 attribute to be returned, then for the member;range=1500-2999 attribute.
If the DC is Win2k3 SP2 or above, you can use something like:

to get the nested group membership.
