Can the width of the dropdown be set to a different value than the AutoCompleteBox itself?
The Popup is a separate Part of the AutoCompleteBox, so it should be possible to extend that beyond the width of the text box.
In Blend, right-click on the AutoCompleteBox and select Edit Template > Edit a Copy, giving the new template a name.
Drill-down in the Objects and Timeline window to the 'Popup' part, and beneath that is a Grid. Change the width of that Grid to change the width of the popup content whilst maintaining the current width of the text box).
(I must admit I've only had chance to do this in Silverlight Spy, but it definitely works there so I can't see it being a problem doing it through Blend).
If you are not using Blend, just copy Default Style and Template of AutocompleteBox from MSDN and paste it into your App.xaml file (here is little tutorial on how to handle styles in app.xaml).
You can then modify that pasted style or template.

I'm looking for a bootstrap CSS style of a vertical tab control, like at this page:
https://dbtek.github.io/bootstrap-vertical-tabs/demo.html
If I'm going to do it myself, what WPF control should I begin with as the base class? (I don't think the WPF tabcontrol should be a starting point because the styles are so different)
Thanks
You can re-style the TabControl and the TabItems to look like you want. It may require some effort though.
You can right-click on a TabControl in design mode in Visual Studio or in Blend and choose Edit Template->Edit a Copy to copy the default style into your XAML markup and then edit it as per your requirements. Edit Additional Templates->Edit Generated Item Container (ItemContainerStyle) will do the same thing for the TabItem container.
Also note that you can set the TabStripPlacement property of the TabControl to Left to change the position of the tabs.
I would like to build a multiline combobox in WPF. This would be similar to label control wherein the width of control will grow such that entire selected text is visible. The text displayed can go over next line if there is no enough space available on current line.
I tried few things around control template of combobox. But still no success.
Below is sample screenshot of how it should look like!
Any pointers?
Thanks,
Sambhaji
As per my understanding setting the control template for this particular scenario would be a tedious job. I would have created a TextBlock and tried setting the event triggers which will open a container on mouse hover or click event.
I'm fairly new to Silverligt 5 and xaml for that matter and I have come across a problem. I have a datagrid containing a template column. This template consists in a bunch of TextBlocks, images and other controls. I've customized the way the grid looks by overriding the grid/row/cell style using the VisualStateManager. Everything works fine when changing for instance the row background and borders on MouseOver. However I didn't find a way to change the foreground color of just one of the TextBlocks in the column template. So I'm not trying to set the foreground of the cell it self but only for one of the many controls(a TextBlock) in the column template. When the user is hovering a grid row, I want - apart from changing the background of the entire row, to also change the foreground color of this particular TextBlock.
Hope this makes sense
You need define style for DataGridColumnHeader Template
look here : MSDN
I want to change the display behavior of the selected item(s) in a WPF Listview. Specifically, I want to retain the custom textblock foreground colors that I've applied and apply a border around the item.
I am able to alter SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey and ControlBrushKey to change the background color of the selected item, but I don't know how to get it to stop changing the font color or use a border instead. I've tried manipulating the control template and have also searched Google for examples of how to do this, without success.
yeah, looks like you have to go through the pain of using ControlTemplates.
Good news is that via using Expression Blend, you can get current ControlTemplate for ListView and tweak the bit that you need and use that as your default ControlTemplate.
I'm having some difficulty with styling the RibbonMenuButton in Microsoft Ribbon for WPF (October 2010).
Is there any way in which I can access the property for the width between the image and the label? I can't find any relevant member on the MSDN Property List, and as expected, adjusting the padding just changes the spacing between the entire button and it's container.
<ribbon:RibbonMenuButton SmallImageSource="/MyProject;component/Images/Foo.png" Label=Bar">
...
</ribbon:RibbonMenuButton>
Thanks in advance!
That will likely have to be done through the template. For template manipulation, I typically use Expression Blend as it allows easier access to the template and provides design time display of an example of the item being templated. If you don't have it, pick up a trial.
If you do get it, load your solution into Blend, right-click on an item you want to change the template for, selected Edit Template > Edit a Copy...
The template will be copied, referenced by the item, and you can then edit it to suit the look and feel you want for the control.
