I'm trying to get a ComboBox to match a visual design, so its ToggleButton has a blue border when the ComboBox has focus. I can't figure out how to do this and can't find an example.
When the ComboBox gets focus, the TextBox inside gets the dashed focus visual. How do I pass the ComboBox focus state down to the ToggleButton, so that it's blue border style is turned on?
Here is my ComboBox template:
<ControlTemplate x:Key="ComboBoxCT" TargetType="{x:Type ComboBox}">
<Grid x:Name="gLayoutRoot"
Margin="{TemplateBinding Margin}"
HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalAlignment}"

<TextBox x:Name="PART_EditableTextBox"

And here's my ToggleButton template:

<Border x:Name="InnerBorder"

<Setter Property="Style" TargetName="InnerBorder" Value="{DynamicResource InnerBorderTopFocusStyle}"/>
</Trigger>
</ControlTemplate.Triggers>
</ControlTemplate>
As you can see I try to bind to the ComboBox's focus state, but that doesn't work inside the Trigger.
Any help appreciated. Sorry for the noob question. Thanks!
The easiest way to do this is to have a binding to the Templated Parent's IsFocused. Note: Mode=OneWay is important since IsFocused is read only. You could do something like this:
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding IsFocused, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Mode=TemplatedParent}, Mode=OneWay}" Value="True">
<Setter Property="Style" TargetName="OuterBorder" Value="{DynamicResource OuterBorderBottomFocusStyle}"/>
<Setter Property="Style" TargetName="InnerBorder" Value="{DynamicResource InnerBorderTopFocusStyle}"/>
</DataTrigger >
You want to customize or chose a FocusVisualStyle:
See here:
MSDN: Styling for Focus in Controls, and FocusVisualStyle
I think the blue one you want to have is from some original windows theme, maybe it's contained in this download Default WPF Themes from Microsoft WPF Samples.
You have set Focusable=False for your ToggleButton in the ControlTemplate, so when it receives the focus, it passes it down to the next inner focusable UIElement.
If you remove that, your ToggleButton should get the focus instead of the TextBox.
Binding to the templated parent's IsFocused prperty do not work when you set the ComboBox.IsEditable property to True. Instead you can use IsKeyboardFocusWithin, check the following:
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding IsKeyboardFocusWithin, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Mode=TemplatedParent}, Mode=OneWay}" Value="True">
<Setter Property="Background" TargetName="Border" Value="{DynamicResource MainColorLight}" />
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" TargetName="Border" Value="{DynamicResource MainColorLight}" />
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" TargetName="Border2" Value="{DynamicResource MainColorLight}" />
<Setter Property="Fill" TargetName="Arrow" Value="White" />
</DataTrigger >

Currently i only found this little Squesre around the Arrow and change it while Mouse Overis True:
<Trigger Property="UIElement.IsMouseOver" Value="True">
<Setter Property="Panel.Background" TargetName="ButtonBorder" Value="White"/>
</Trigger>
Mouse Over is false:
<Trigger Property="UIElement.IsMouseOver" Value="false">

BTW i also want to change the Border color with Mouse Over
What you need to do is to right click the combobox and choose edit template -> edit copy (which will give you the entire template for the combobox) then you need to find "ComboBoxToggleButton" template, and you will find a path inside it, you can then change its color or even replace it with a different vector if you wanted to).
I'have write this code for apply template to ComboBox.
This is code on App.xaml

I have this class it extends ComboBox:
public class ComboBoxExtends :ComboBox
{
public LOCAL_PE_AttivitaXParametri parametri { set; get; }
}
Now I insert on Panel the ComboBox in this way:
ComboBoxExtends comboBox = new ComboBoxExtends();
comboBox.Style = Resources["selectedStyleTrigger"] as Style;
grid.Children.Add(comboBox);
I set style "comboBox.Style = Resources["selectedStyleTrigger"] as Style;" but I don't see the style.
How can I fixed it?
Reguards
You have created a Style for the ComboBox and are trying to apply it to your custom ComboBoxExtends class which is not a ComboBox. In order to declare a Style for your custom class, you will need to add an XML Namespace Prefix that points to the assembly where it is declared... perhaps something like this:
xmlns:Local="clr-namespace:YourAppName.OptionalFolderName"
Then you can refer to your custom class using this prefix:
<Style TargetType="Local:ComboBoxExtends" x:Key="selectedStyleTrigger">
...
</Style>
I have a custom combobox where I apply a specific style on the first item. I want that when this item is selected, the style of displayed text in the combobox is the same. Currently, all selected items appear in the same style and I do not know how to make the ContentPresenter "get" the specified style in that item. This is the code:
<ComboBox HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0,106,0,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="200">
<ComboBoxItem Style="{StaticResource mySpecialStyle}">Select an option...</ComboBoxItem>
<ComboBoxItem>ComboBox Item #1</ComboBoxItem>
<ComboBoxItem>ComboBox Item #2</ComboBoxItem>
<ComboBoxItem>ComboBox Item #3</ComboBoxItem>
</ComboBox>
In fact, "mySpecialStyle" only changes color and fontstyle. But when the first item is selected, it appears like any other selected item. How can set this on the Contentpresenter?
Here is the complete code of the custom ComBoBox:

Thanks in advance!
The logic to solve here of course will base on something like a Trigger. However we can't set Style via Setter. So I thought of this hack (but safe enough). Firstly you need to bind the Style of the ContentPresenter to its Tag property (of course 2 way binding by default). Then you just need to change the Tag to a {StaticResource} with ResourceKey being the same as the resource you defined upwards on the tree. This resource should of course have TargetType of ContentPresenter:
<ContentPresenter
Name="ContentSite"
IsHitTestVisible="False"
Content="{TemplateBinding SelectionBoxItem}"
ContentTemplate="{TemplateBinding SelectionBoxItemTemplate}"
ContentTemplateSelector="{TemplateBinding ItemTemplateSelector}"
Style="{Binding Tag, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" />
<!-- the additional Trigger should be added to the ControlTemplate.Triggers -->
<Trigger Property="SelectedIndex" Value="0">
<Setter TargetName="ContentSite"
Property="Tag" Value="{StaticResource mySpecialStyle}"/>
</Trigger>
I've been trying to group the items of my custom control combobox using xaml and I'm a little stuck. I've been reading around and found the following code that produces the results I want, but I'd like to move all the code into the GroupedImageComboBox control.
<StackPanel>
<StackPanel.Resources>
<CollectionViewSource x:Key="groupedData" Source="{Binding Items}">
<CollectionViewSource.GroupDescriptions>
<PropertyGroupDescription PropertyName="EntityBaseDependencyType" Converter="{StaticResource enumConverter}"/>
</CollectionViewSource.GroupDescriptions>
</CollectionViewSource>
</StackPanel.Resources>
<WPFControls:GroupedImageComboBox
ItemsSource ="{Binding Source={StaticResource groupedData}}"
SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedItem}"
>
<ItemsControl.GroupStyle>
<x:Static Member="GroupStyle.Default"/>
</ItemsControl.GroupStyle>
</WPFControls:GroupedImageComboBox>
</StackPanel>
I would like to be able to remove the use of the stackpanel and the itemscontrol from this area and put them inside the GroupedImageComboBox. Is there a way to achieve this?
Thanks in advance.

Just move the CollectionViewSource declaration elsewhere (in your </Window.Resources><Window.Resources> tag for example) and put your combobox anywhere else you want.
I have a ComboBox and I have set the combo.ItemsSource property to a List object. The Book class contains two properties: "Abbreviation" and "Name".
I have set the ComboBox's DisplayMemberPath to "Abbreviation" but the following style that is set on the ComboBox does not display the Abbreviation property, but instead shows "Words.Book" which is the name of the class. The ComboBox drop-down displays a list correctly (Using the specified Abbreviation property). The problem is in the selected ComboBox item, the one displayed when the ComboBox' drop-down is closed.
I guess the problem is in ContentPresenter in DataTemplate but I was unable to find a successful solution. Currently the ContentPresenter's Content property is set to Content="{TemplateBinding Content} but I don't know if that's how it should be.
Any ideas how to show the property specified in DisplayMemberPath on the selected item?
Thank you

I think you want something more like this in your ComboBox template:
<ContentPresenter Content="{TemplateBinding ComboBox.SelectionBoxItem}"
ContentTemplate="{TemplateBinding ComboBox.SelectionBoxItemTemplate}"
ContentStringFormat="{TemplateBinding ComboBox.SelectionBoxItemStringFormat}"
Margin="{TemplateBinding Control.Padding}"
HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding Control.HorizontalContentAlignment}"
VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding Control.VerticalContentAlignment}"
SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding UIElement.SnapsToDevicePixels}" />
If your template doesn't explicitly handles the value of DisplayMemberPath, then the template won't use it to change the ComboBoxItem. You'll have to bind to the member directly in the ControlTemplate, or use a separate DataTemplate.
I found problem with the BureauBlack theme where it would just not apply the DisplayMemberPath, just showed the object name. I had a window with many (15+) ComboBoxes and all but 2 worked correctly using DisplayMemberPath.
I removed the following from the ContentPresenters and GridViewRowPresenters:
Content="{TemplateBinding Content}" ContentTemplate="{TemplateBinding ContentTemplate}"
in ListBoxItem, ComboBoxItem,ListViewItem. There may be more that need fixed, but this was all we found that we are using.
Using Microsoft.Net 4.0 Framework. I did not try on 4.5 or 3.5.
