SetFocus to a textbox wpf - wpf

I want to set focus to a textbox always. I am creating a application in wpf, in the search page there is a textbox i want to set focus to that textbox always, if the user clicks anywhere in the page the taxtbox should gain the focus. How to achieve this task.
Geetha.

Despite the solution of handling the LostKeyboardFocus and LostKeyboardFocus and set the focus to the same element again using Keyboard.Focus method, you can find a lot of advices and other solutions here

disable all input controls in a WPF Window

Is there a way to make an entire WPF Window inert after a button click?
The window is invoked via Window.ShowDialog() and after use, the window is no longer needed for interaction but I leave it open to remind the user of the inputs in TextBox's, ListBox's, and give visual feedback via OxyPlot and so on. I leave it to the user to close the window manually.
One solution is to disable all buttons but that's tedious and it still leaves TextBox's functioning. That's not optimal because for anything to be functioning creates the wrong impression that the Window remains for anything other than looking at. It would be better for every control to be non-functioning by a single setting.
I did it by putting a name on the WPF window code behind and then setting .IsEnabled false upon the appropriate button click. All buttons, combo boxes, text boxes, and even OxyPlot became inert at that point and most parts were greyed out.
Consider creating a dedicated boolean dependency property in your code-behind or viewmodel and binding IsEnabled of every TextBox to the property.

wpf selecting controls inside a listbox

I have a textbox and some labels inside the data template of bounded listbox.
When I click on any label the whole item is highlighted in blue, but when I click directly on a different textbox the selection does not change.
Is there a way to make the selection of the listbox change even when a textbox is clicked?
thanks
This is what I've exactly asked few days ago, see post: "WPF: Trigger SelectedIndex changed whilst clicking on any control within a ListBoxItem area"
basically there are few solutions, using code behind and XAML, but I've not verified latter approach yet
The reason is because the TextBox handles the click event in order to receive focus. There are a number of ways to handle this, including but not limited to:
stop the TextBox handling mouse events (which prevents the user from focussing it using the mouse)
use an eventhandler when the TextBox gains focus (or PreviewClick or similar), to select the parent ListItem

Stop a WPF Textbox from losing focus

I have a WPF Textbox, that I want to check that the text value is correct before I allow it to lose keyboard/focus.
I have tried setting e.Handled in the InputBox_LostFocus & InputBox_LostKeyboardFocus events, but it doesnt seem to be achieving what I want.
Any suggestions on how I can lock focus to a Textbox?
The best way to do this is to handle the PreviewLostKeyboardFocus event which is fired while the event is tunneling down to your textbox. Set handle to true and nothing else will receive the notification (meaning focus will not be transfered away from your textbox). Hope this helps.
You can call Mouse.Capture on a UIElement. This will then give you every mouse event that hapens whether on the element or not. but its tricky to use. You can capture the mouse on your text box and register for lost capture events, when you lose capture you can recapture. you have to watch out for strange behaviors. Generally its bad practice (I think) to not allow a user to move off a field. what is better is to allow them to do whatever they want, but disable the button that they push after entering data until all fields are valid (or something similar)

other SO question
msdn sample code
the combo box uses mouse capture to tell if the user has clicked elsewhere in the app to close the combo box if its open if you click on another control (or outside the window)
I dont know if this technique will stop you tabbing off the element. there are two kinds of focus in a wpf app. You have logical focus and keyboard focus. Multiple elements can have logical focus at once (each within a focus scope). think for example a textbox can have logical focus while you are clicking a menu (which has logical focus as well). Keyboard focus can only be in one place at a time. You are going to make a lot of work for yourself. I would seriously consider if you are doing your interaction in the right way. You could spend days getting this interaction correct. If you stop your textbox losing focus, what happens if the user clicks the close button?
heres the msdn article on focus

Determine who has focus in WPF Window

We are using WPF and have a window derived from a DockingLibrary. This window has a grid with multiple items in it, one being a WPF datagrid. We are using the M-V-VM pattern. When this windown is created and shown, none of the rows in this datagrid are selected. We can set the row to display as highlighted by doing something like:
SharedWindow.ShipmentWin.shipmentDataGrid.SelectedIndex = 0;
This causes the first row in the datagrid to be shown as highlighted. But, and isn't there always one of these, this row is not Selected nor does it have Focus. I tried setting IsSelected and Focus on this row as in:
SharedWindow.ShipmentWin.ShipVM.IsSelected = true;
bool focused = SharedWindow.ShipmentWin.shipmentDataGrid.Focus();
Am I going about this all wrong and is there some other way to Select the first row in the datagrid and set focus to it? Typically, when a datagrid is created, no row is selected until the user mouse clicks on the desired row.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Have a look at the FocusManager. It allows you the set the focus to another UI element via the SetFocusedElement method. Additionally, it allows you to determine the currently focused element in your application which is can get handy to debug focus issues. Snoop can be useful, too. It shows the currently focused element in the bottom status bar.
If you use the DataGrid from the WPF Toolkit, be prepared to find some bugs in relation to focus handling. Some have been addressed recently.
It's also worth understanding the difference between logical focus and keyboard focus, which are quite different animals. The .Focus() method sometimes only sets logical focus - which probably isn't what you want.
The documentation for the Focus method tells you that it will return true if the keyboard focus was set, and false otherwise.

Hiding Popup control when other window's in focus

I have a custom UserControl which tries to recreate auto-complete for a textbox. When user types, the text is used to filter a provided collection of items and then a Popup displays a ListBox with items that match what user have typed.
Unfortunately, if user decides to switch away from the application to another window (browser, MSWord, anything!), the Popup remains on top of every other window!
Also, if I move my window (which hosts the custom control) with the popup open, the popup stays in place (and doesn't follow the window)! It's kinda funny but obviously not acceptable behaviour. I've looked around but only found one post about this that went unanswered for two years :(
Actually, I didn't realize that I had StaysOpen property of the Popup set to true.
<Popup StaysOpen="False" />
actually does the trick for me.
I had the same problem in a similar scenario. What I did was I subscribed to all posible "lost focus" events of the control and also got the window which hosts the control and subscribed to its GotMouseCapture and LocationChanged events. Event handlers of all those events are setting the popup's IsOpen property to false.
You can get the hosting window with this:
parentWindow = Window.GetWindow(this);
all other code is simply a lot of subscribing to events to do the same thing.
P.S. I'm not saying it's a pretty or optimal solution, but it works fine for me :)
According to the Popup documentation:
When Popup is displayed on the screen, it does not reposition itself if its parent is repositioned.
So it does not look like it would be a very good candidate for an autocomplete textbox. I think the class is meant more for showing information when you hover over an item.
