We are on decision point - which technology will be used for our highly loaded flight deals map.
There is simple test - http://buruki.com/gmap but if i choose London or Moscow( they have ~200-300 flights destinations) most of browsers( firefox 3.5 and IE for sure :-) ) are extremely slow.
Now there are simple markers and simple polylines, MarkerManager or other things are not use.
I would like to ask gmap experts - is it possible to have almost immediate response time with ~200-300 polylines and markers on map. If yes - any live examples from existing projects.
PS we already have silverlight( http://buruki.com/map ) implementation, it has great speed and great disadvantages :-( - plugin is required, linux users are out of bossiness. Is it possible to achieve same speed(or close) as silverlight has with gmaps?
Answer : yes it is possible not only for 200-300 but also you can add more then 500. I worked on one of the airline site same like your and i attached different markers and polyline more then 200 within a 5 milisecond with google map V3. I made an javascript file for that and an array for whole data with lat long after that i used for loop for placing a marker images with lat long (which data is comes from an array). Till now no any bug appear in that and every thing with heavy data working fine. thanks

I would like to render DOM elements (which im otherwise using React for) onto (for example) a plane in a 3D (WebGL -> Three.js -> Three Fiber (??? so far best way to go about it as im figuring?)) environment.
So basically Id have my containing my entire app lets say rendered, as is traditional, into "root" element. Except I want to inject a layer in that utilizes Three Fiber to render and everything I might want my site (or even just a particular component) to contain onto this plane. Allowing one to make a react site as normal and behind the scenes (probably in index.js or intermediate file) would instead of being rendered "flat" against the screen i could "tilt" the entire site, give it opacity, maybe have multiple webpages all able to be shuffled like cards, sides of a dice, w/e tf.
If anybody has any suggestions im struggling with how one could go about this.
Im worried i might have to get kind of low-level (which im not totally against), but was hopeful there was some support for something of this nature. So far ive tried even having simple elements like an image element inside a material (element - via three fiber) or inside the mesh element (where the material would go) to no avail. Im just beginning to get my hands dirty but google hasnt availed me much for this project, so I turned to good ol' stack overflow for my first personal request! 🤯 😲 👹 !

We have an application where we need to plot ~13K+ markers on a map depending on the users current filters. I have found that react-leaflet does not handle this many markers very well. I even offloaded all of the popup data to a separate query on popup to reduce the initial data load, but to no avail.
I did find that using clustering does help improve the performance, so I have enabled that (even though it is not in the following example code). But even with clustering, on the initial map load a user might have to wait 20 seconds for the map to render with the markers, but the actual data fetch from the GraphQL API is less than a second.
I am trying to find a way to only fetch the markers that are present within the bounding box of the page. I am doing this successfully, but the problem now is that all of the markers flash (re-render) when the map is moved/zoomed even if the new bounds is just a subset of the original.

Is there a way for react-leaflet to only re-render the markers that are new and not all the markers? I am providing the unique id of the marker from the api to the Marker component key field, but that doesn't seem to provide any improvements.
I am thinking that maybe the best way to handle it would be to do something to manage the map bounds to the min east, max west, max north, and min south and only refetch if the new bounds are outside of the currently fetched area. This along with a 10-20% over area fetch to not refetch if the map is only very slightly moved in any direction.
Note: I am not guaranteeing that this GraphQL backend will be available after the question has been answered. There is a 1Mb/Day data transfer limitation on this backend in case this question blows up and you cannot see the markers. See the README in the codesandbox for steps to setup the backend for free online in under 2 minutes.

Not the same question as Plotting 140K points in leafletjs. I am specifically looking for an answer to how it might be possible to update markers to remove markers not in new data fetch and add new markers not present in previous data fetch without re-rendering existing markers.
Take a look at the example code and you will see the markers flash as they all get re-rendered when the new data is fetched. This might lead to a better hybrid between performance and UX as I really don't want to use the CircleMarker and I already added clustering but still have existing lag.
You should use the React Canvas Markers plugin. The poor performance is because the default behavior is to create an individual div for each marker. This avoids the performance hit by writing your map and markers to a canvas element. Here's a working example from SO.
I am building a map application with the silverlight bing maps control.
In the map control I want to show all of the subscribed customers.
The amount of customers is somewhere between 5000 and 7000, this means I can't show them all at once. This would result in a crash I guess.
How would you solve this issue?
I've read about events on zoomlevels etc. about tile layers about spatial sql
but I have no idea what the right solution is in this situation and where to begin.
This seems like a pretty basic problem when working with maps but there is little to no information on how to handle lots of data when working with bing maps.
Can anyone explain or point me to a good tutorial?
You can use a space-filling-curve or a spatial-index to get those points nested with the zoom-level of your map application to achieve a cluster effect http://blog.notdot.net/2009/11/Damn-Cool-Algorithms-Spatial-indexing-with-Quadtrees-and-Hilbert-Curves. There are many implementation of sfc and hilbert-curves. I've uploaded my own at phpclasses.org (hilbert-curve, bsd licence) and with a quadkey function for a cluster function. I've succesful implemented it for some customers. The idea is to search for a quadkey from left to right to get only a portion of pois. www.maptiler.org uses a quadkey with a z-curve. Probably you are getting better answers at gis.stackexchange. A sfc has usually a constraint of power of 2.
I'm trying to make a guitar practice website, and a critical functionality is to loop over very short mp3 files (a few seconds long), with absolutely zero gap in between. For example, it could a 4-measures-long chord progression, and I want to allow the user to loop over it seamlessly.
I tried using the HTML5 <audio> tag with the loop attribute. Google Chrome gives a small gap between the loops, but big enough to be totally unacceptable for my purpose. I haven't tested the other browsers, but I believe it won't work.
A possible workaround is to use ffmpeg to stream repetitions the same audio as an mp3. However, this costs a lot of bandwidth.
For myself I use Audacity to loop without gaps, but unfortunately Audacity doesn't have a web version.
So, do you have any ideas how I may loop over an mp3 in a browser with zero gap? I prefer non-Flash solutions, but if nothing else works I'll use Flash.

Thank you for all your suggestions. Flash turns out to work decently. I've made a toy demo at http://vmlucid.lcm.hk/~netvope/audio/flash.html. To my surprise (I use to associate Flash with resource hog and browser crashes only), Flash and ActionScript are rather well designed and easy to use. It took me only 3 hours on my first Flash project :)
Have a look at this page. Listening for a while using Google Chrome 7, I found Method 1 works decently, while Method 3 gives the best results, though it's a bit of a hack. Ultimately, all browsers work differently, especially since HTML5 isn't finalized yet. If possible, you should opt for a Flash version, which I would think would give you the best loop.
in flash AS3 you can extract sound data with computeSpectrum() and give it to your Sound object exactly when it's needed (SampleDataEvent is fired).
I am not sure how well this will work, but if you knew your loop lasted 800 milliseconds - you could have the browser call the play method every 800ms... it still wouldn't be guaranteed to be perfect though. I don't think the browser is natively capable of delivering reliable audio looping at this point.

Rumor has it the best way to do pull this off in the most gapless fashion to use to multiple audio tags and alternate between them.
Or check out this utility: http://www.compuphase.com/mp3/mp3loops.htm I used it successfully for my flash projects when music had to be looped without gaps, and 99% of the time it worked. It takes WAV as an input.
Basically it is a kind of front-end for LAME mp3 encoder, which uses such settings as to prevent the gaps appearing. It won't work on very short sound effects (less than 0.5 second I believe).
Afterward all you have to do is use:

I'm attempting to use a large number of short sound samples in a game I'm creating in Silverlight 2. The samples are less than 2 seconds long.
I would prefer to load all the audio samples onto the canvas during the initualization. I have been adding the media element to the canvas and a generic list to manage it. So far, it appears to work.
When I play the sample the first time, it plays perfectly. If it has finished playing and I want to re-use the same element, it cuts off the first part of the sound. To play the sample again, I stop and play the media element.
Is there another method I should use the samples so that the audio is not clipped and good performance is obtained?
Also, it's probably a good idea to make sure that all of your audio samples are brought down to the client side initially. Depending on how you set it up, it's possible that the MediaElements are using their progressive download functionality to get the media files from the server. While there's nothing wrong with this per se (browser caching should be helping you out after the initial download), it does mean that you have to deal with the browser cache, and there are some potential issues there.
Possible steps to try:
Mark your audio files as "Content". This will get them balled up in the .xap.
Load your audio files into MemoryStreams (see Application.GetResourceStream method) and call MediaElement.SetSource().

Try to limit the number of MediaElement objects you have in your application at once. If you have over one hundred MediaElement objects in your application tree, regardless of whether they are playing concurrently or not, MediaFailed events may be raised. The way to work around this is to add MediaElement objects to the tree as they are needed and remove them when they are not.
You could try to seek to the start of the sample to reset the point currently being played before re-using it with:
mediaelement.Position = new TimeSpan();

One techique you can use, although I'm not sure how well it will work in Silverlight, is create one large file with all of your samples joined together (probably with a half-second or so of silence between each). Figure out the timecode for each sample and seek the media element to that position and play. You'll only need as many media elements as simultaneous sounds you want to play.
