I use RAD Studio 2010 including latest updates 4 and 5, my database is SQL Server Express.
I set up a TSQLConnection but it won't connect, error message is "DBX-Error: the driver could not be initialized correctly. A client library may be missing, may not be installed correctly, or may have the wrong version" (error messagetranslated from German).
Connecting to the database via TADOConnection works fine with both ADO drivers ("Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" and "SQL Native Client").
Can anybody give me a hint how to connect via dbExpress?
you need to install the sql native client, if you read the read me that comes with RAD studio 2010 its says that it is a requirement for connecting to sql server 2000/2005/2008
I’ve also discovered that in dbxdrivers.ini they haven’t added the proper option for MSSQL 2000/2005 you need to edit the top bit to add in MSSQL9=1
example:
[Installed Drivers]
DBXTrace=1
DBXPool=1
BlackfishSQL=1
DataSnap=1
ASA=1
ASE=1
DB2=1
Firebird=1
Informix=1
Interbase=1
MSSQL=1
MSSQL9=1
MySQL=1
Oracle=1
you can then select MSSQL9 as a dbExpress option and it should also appear in data explorer as well
I had a similiar issue with Delphi XE2 ad SQL Server 2005. I uninstalled and installed several versions (including MSSQL 2008 R2) of SQL Native Client to no avail. But adding MSSQL9=1 to the ini file worked.
Maybe this thread on the EDN (Embarcadero Developer Network) can be helpful.

I'm trying to use the PyCharm database tool to look at a couple of Oracle databases. The first database is an Oracle 11 database and connects with no problems. The second database, however, is an Oracle 9i database and is giving me issues. When i try to connect to it I get an error message that says
Unsupported combination of server/driver versions: found Oracle server version 9.2.0.8 with JDBC driver version 12.1.0.2 that is not compatible. Oracle server version 9.x must be connected by JDBC driver versions 9.x to 11.x..
I've tried finding where pycharm keeps the JDBC drivers but have had no luck. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. I would also appreciate it if someone could point me towards where I can download drivers that will work with the Oracle 9i and 11(g i think?) databases.
I'm on windows 10 64 bit and using PyCharm 2016.2.3.
I have been using Oracle Server 9i- 9.2.0.4.
To query on this server I am using Jet Brains DataGrip.
It showed me the same error and then I changed driver jar of ojdbc6-x.x.x with
ojdbc14-9.2.0.1.jar and then It started working fine on DataGrip.
Hope this will be helpful.
Download ojdbc14-9.2.01 and configure it on your local Database management tool.

I'm new in this field, please kindly help me.
I'm installing pentaho biserver for community in my notebook. At first, it's succeed (with default configuration) like this. but, when I'm trying to change the database with ms sql server like this tutorial,
help.pentaho.com/Documentation/5.4/0F0/0K0/040/0D0
an error occurs:
Can anybody tell me what's wrong with the installation?
I'm using:
Sql server developer edition 2014
pentaho biserver community 4.8.0
apache-tomcat-8.5.3
jdk8
sql server driver sqljdbc42.jar and I put it under \biserver-ce\tomcat\lib
I also try something like Using Pentaho Community Edition with SQL Server 2005 but still not working.
switch to default configuration. no need to do anything. while creating Datasource connection Pentaho provides option for connecting to different RDBMS database.You just need to place JDBC connector file into lib directory.
I'm trying to run a schema comparison using Visual Studio 2013.5 with SQL Server Data Tools 12.0.50730.0 against a SQL Server 2016 (13.0.300) Express database.
I can configure the source connection OK, and when I hit 'Test Connection' in the connection properties dialog it says "Test connection succeeded."
However, when I hit 'Compare' in the schema comparison window it says "Initializing Comparison..." for a few seconds, then "Source is unavailable: "
This only happens if I use a SQL Server 2016 as the source, other servers work fine.
Is this a bug?
EDIT: I have also tried using SSDT 14.0.50730.0 in VS2015 and I get the same error.
In Visual Studio 2017 I had the same issue and the only solution that worked for me was:
Close Visual Studio, open it and try again :) It seems to be a caching issue. Another option is to rename the DB but that's not a nice way of workarounding this issue.
SQL Server Data Tools support for SQL Server 2016 is now GA and the latest update through Extensions and Updates in VS2013 and VS2015 will resolve this issue for you. You can also download directly from this page for VS2015, and this page for VS2013.
I had this error. Once I changed the server name from "pcname" to its IP "192.168.1.xxx" it worked.
The tools for SQL Server 2016, like the database engine itself, are still in preview. The July RTM release of SSDT doesn't include support for SQL Server 2016. You'll need to download and install the "SSDT June Preview" release from here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/mt204009.aspx
I have found that using username#servername as the username for connecting will fix the issue when it happens against Azure databases. Not sure if this works for non-Azure. I've had connections that have historically worked without doing this suddenly stop and then this has fixed it for me.
For instance, when using a login of mylogin and connecting to myserver.database.windows.net, if I instead use mylogin#myserver.database.windows.net as the username I won't get the "Source is unavailable" issue.
I was having the same problem connecting to AWS RDS instance. The only changes that I can tell caused the problem were upgrading to VS2015 and SSDT 14.0.61021.0
I added the following to the connection string and some combination of them fixed the problem:
;Connect Timeout=60;Encrypt=False;TrustServerCertificate=True;Persist Security Info=True
I figured this out by recreating the comparison then comparing the two .scmp files
When I had this error message, the solution was to use a login that had the sysadmin server role.
It seems to be a cache issue. I get it resolved by
Connect to some other Database on the same server
Compare schema against target project
Remove history of your main database from the connections
Restart Visual Studio
Create connection with your main database and compare schema again
Hope it works for you!
I need to create Link Server in SQL Server 2012 Enterprise 64 using Oracle ODAC.
I have done everything I know, including multiple re-installation of Windows Server 2012 Standard R2 64. The ODAC is also 64bit.
I am able to connect to Oracle 11g using Oracle SQL Developer using TNS as Connection Type.
I am beginning to think this may have something to do with Windows Server. Because I have never experience this issue on other systems not running Windows Server.
I get this error:
returned message "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
Thanks
After combining through hundreds of internet posts and install/reinstall. I discovered the problem was the ORACLE ODAC Components. Every article on the internet tells you to install 64bit ODAC if you are running 64bit database, however, this is not accurate.
After spending two days trying to get this to work, I decided to try the 32bit ODAC and it worked.
In case anyone is having this same issue.
Dear StackOverflow readers i would like your kind attention towards my one of the problem:
I have a Visual Foxpro application, in which i am accessing a remote SQL Server's Stored Procedure. Everything is working fine when I am installing the SQL Express 2008 in my Client Machine along with the FoxPro Application.
But when I am not installing the SQL Server On client Machine along with the visual FroxPro Application then I am getting a error " SQL Connect Error", Cannot Make Connection.
Is their any way that i don't have to install the whole SQL Express on client machine and i can only install the required libraries.
Regards
ProgChd
You should not have to install SQL Express itself, but at least ensure that you have the ODBC / OleDB providers for SQL Express. These can use SQL-Server connection which are somewhat common to already be on the machine.
As for your connection string, are you connecting via the fully qualified \server\database hosting information?
Just for grins, you could go through the machine's
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Data Sources ODBC
and try to manually create an ODBC connection to the SQLExpress server you are trying to do via your VFP application. If you can't connect through that, then neither will VFP. Take the VFP app out of the equation and just test for the connection.
