I have a SQL Server 2012 hosted on a standalone machine. I want to migrate it to my AWS Redshift (already existing data warehouse).
My question is wether it is possible via AWS Data migration service ?
I am also open to other efficient methods for migration. Currently I am doing the following steps
taking a backup of the SQL server DB in the standalone server.
uploading it to AWS-S3.
Droping and restoring the Db from S3 in AWS-RDS (Sql-server)
I would like this data to be present in my data warehouse i.e AWS-Redshift
Thanks for the help in advance !
There are 2 types of migration within DMS
"one off" data migration, where the data is copied using sql
statements
"continuous replication", where the "change dta capture" system on
the source is used to capture and process just the updates.
SQL server can be used as a source for both of these types however there are caveats and limitations that should be read and understood thoroughly.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/dms/latest/userguide/CHAP_Source.SQLServer.html
So long as you follow the instructions and meet the limitiations that are documented then it will work great.
I have 10TB of ms sql data on premise. I want to migrate the data from on premise to the azure ms sql server without any downtime. Please help me or suggest me how to do that. Is it possible to migrate that much data using the transactional data migration. If is there any other tool to do that please also suggest. Thanks in advance.
Microsoft has a service where you ship them physical media and they upload it to the azure servers. Probably the best thing to do for such a large dataset.

I have a requirement which needs me to write code for a data passer that would do pass data from sybase to mysql. I really don't have much experience in this field but would love to try it out. When i googled i found many articles on data migration from sybase to microsoft sql server, but that is not what i need. I need to be able to pass data from the sybase server to microsoft sql server every night for further data manipulation. There are two sites one which uses sybase and the other one uses microsoft sql, we can't do a db migration from sybase to microsoft sql as the application running at that site depends on it. Therefore the only way is to pass data from sybase to sql. So it would be very helpful if someone could shed some light on this.
Thanks in advance for whatever suggestion that you have.. :)
I study the SQL Server technologies, and want to try connect to remote server.
Did anybody knows a public server with sample databases for testing?
The Google didn't help me, at the moment.
SQLFiddle.com
If you want help with a tricky query, and you'd like to post a question.
If you need to build a representative database (schema and data) and post a link to it in your question.
If you want (a) unique URL(s) for each database (and each query) will be generated as you use the site.
If you want to compare and contrast SQL statements in different database back-ends.
If you do not have a particular database platform readily available, but you would like to see what a given query would look like in that environment.

I have a contact DB that I created 3 years ago in MS ACCESS. After 1 year learning ASP.NET/C#, I'm comfortable witting application now for my office. So, I would like to create the same application in web (using ASP.NET/C#/SQL SERVER) so that anybody in my department can access. Meanwhile, there are at least 127 contacts, preventing me from just start a new DB from scratch.
So, those are my questions:
Is is a way I can transfer my data from the ACCESS DB to the SQL SERVER DB?
Should I write a small application that read data from the ACCESS file and write it to my new SQL SERVER DB?
Is there a software that can do that?
Thanks for the help.
Microsoft has an upsizing wizard specifically for this purpose. It's not perfect but it is quick and dirty if that is what you're after. Some links before you get started:

If you use SQL Management Studio, there is an "Import" wizard that will whisk the data into your new database for you.
Microsoft have a KB article here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321686
Apologies - the above article is indeed for Excel - the Access version is here:

SQL Server hat an import and export tool. Take a look at this.
