How does mobile messenger work? - mobile

As far I am concern, ebuddy manages all users accounts and when users connect to messenger service (both from websites and mobile phones), they in fact connect through ebuddy server (not directly).
Does EQO mobile messenger work in same way? Or we get connected directly from mobile to messenger server (yahoo,gtalk etc)?
Doesn't these sort of "connecting via another server" make our accounts vulnerable?
What are the free(or more preferably open source) mobile messengers available for yahoo, gtalk,msn etc?

Yes, EQO works in nthe same way.
Yes, it makes your accounts vulnerable.
Palringo is a no-cost closed-source mobile IM client.
I don't know of an open-source mobile IM client.

Enable an asp.net core web application to work without internet and with internet?

I have been developing an asp.net core web application and published on the production mode (online server), the users can access it with the specific domain name and will log in and do data entry from three different countries.
But, the problem is sometimes, in one specific country there is no internet access, my client wants that this application should work online and offline, If there is no internet access the local branch must be able to do data entry, then when the internet gets connected data should send to the online server database,
What is the best way to achieve this goal?

Rationally, it is not possible for you to access a Web App without internet. Web Apps are meant for network usage. However, I believe there is a workaround for such requirements. What you can do is that you can create a clone of your database for the third user, who has no internet access and perform all transactions within the local machine and when the connection comes back on line, you can replicate the data from the local SQL Server into the online server database.

Authentication Best Practices for SaaS over Paas (GAE) Scenario

I am in process of designing a SaaS application over PaaS (Google App Engine).
My SaaS will have two user interfaces:
Web Based
Mobile App based
Web based would be feature-rich whereas Mobile app would have essential and/or frequently used features.
Mobile app would invoke RESTful services to perform business logic.
This SaaS would target mainly individuals using Mobile Apps; however, there could a use-case wherein these individuals could form a group and operate as a company.
So with that in mind, I am considering two entities: Account (Tenant) and User.
I am considering having many-to-many relationship between these two entities as one user could be part of multiple Accounts (unlikely but can’t be ruled out) and of course, one account can have multiple users.
I would like to know the best practices for authentication under such scenario:
Should I use Google's provided Authentication or should I implement my own authentication? (I am still exploring OAuth and Google's authentication offering.)
I think, for web-based interface, username/password over SSL would suffice. But, not sure, can this be applied to mobile app?
Can I avoid a situation wherein I have to store credentials in mobile app?

Having just completed my first project using Google App Engine, I can say that I ran into alot of the questions that you have. I'll try to explain my approach to each point and also approach it from your perspective as well.
Authentication - Generally using Google's auth would be the easiest route, but you would still have to implement a custom adaptation in order to work with the "company"/"group" concept. Implement in the datastore/whatever database you prefer to use an entity called "Groups" which have a list of google users... this way users can belong to many groups.. then you just search by property (user) to get all groups they belong to. I implemented my own authentication system for unrelated reasons.
Google App Engine comes with SSL/HTTPS support for its own domains. You can add in your own custom domain with SSL support as well. You can use SSL through native apps or mobile web apps additionally. I simply used the native support that came with it.
Yes and no. You will always have to store the credentials somewhere. Maybe it wont be in your apps code/directly connected to your app (Google auth would be an example). But somewhere, on your phone, the credentials WILL reside. They may be encrypted/obfuscated, but they will be there. So either have your user enter them in everytime, or save them/use the ones provided by the phone. For myself, .NET provided a nice way of storing credentials in a secure fashion (non-plain-text) for each user's machine.

How do Mobile Apps communicate with a server? Does this communication happen over HTTP or are there other methods (for instance, I guess a mobile app could open a socket)? Does this differ form device to device? Is there one most commonly used approach? If the communication happens over HTTP how do the URLs look like? Is there a way to identify the app based on the the "User Agent" in the HTTP request if the communication is happening over HTTP?
Mobile Apps can communicate with a server in many ways. Mobile apps can also use other features of the mobile. For instance SMS , MMS. Its pretty open really. Your question could be "how do computers communicate with a server?".
A mobile app can be a simple as loading a web page. This would be http.
The problem with mobile apps. They run on phones. There are lots of different phone manufacturers and its up to them (in some case the mobile phone operators also have weight) what to allow the programmer to do by the choice of operating system.
If you are getting started with mobile apps. Take a look at android its pretty simple to get going with if you know a little about programming.
As for the useragent. It depends but usually if you are using the http api on the phone, you can set the user agent to what ever you want it to be, its just a string.

I'm developing a web based application built on codeigniter which will also have a mobile application(blackberry, iphone, android etc.). The web application will be connecting to a (mysql) database to store/retrieve/update data. I would like to know what would be the best solution for having a mobile application store/retrieve/update data.

Look at your device no different than if it was a browser. The are both clients. All devices (well at least Android and iOS) provide you with ways to make xhr requests, just like your browser does. So you need an API on your server that your device will use to get the data. Note that if your application does not already have an API, you will need to develop one.
