How to dynamically add controls to a Silverlight Button? - silverlight

I'm working on a Silverlight Polling control. My goal is to have a Button that contains other controls, so that when a user clicks on this combination, stuff happens.
Here's the basic XAML:
<Button Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Style="{StaticResource AnswerButton}">
<StackPanel Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Height="Auto" Width="Auto" Style="{StaticResource StackPnl}">
<TextBox Text="this is a text box" Style="{StaticResource Answer}" />
<ProgressBar Style="{StaticResource PollProgress}" />
</StackPanel>
</Button>
That works fine, but assume I don't have the StackPanel, etc, defined:
<Button Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Style="{StaticResource AnswerButton}">
</Button>
But that I want to add the StackPanel, TextBox, and ProgressBar at runtime.
Looking at just the first hurdle that I've run into, how do I dynamically add the StackPanel to the Button control?
Alternatively, if someone knows of a better way to do this...

var panel = new StackPanel();
Button.Content = panel;

WPF how to set stackpanel as resources and reuse it in TabControls

I am new to C# and WPF so please give me some ideas:
I have an WPF app used to display some stack panels,all stack panels default Visibility is set to collapsed and they will switch to visible according to the received data.
Now I want to make all these stack panels to resources so I can reuse it in some new added tab controls and stack panels.
<StackPanel x:Name="ColorOption" Visibility="Collapsed">
<TextBlock Text="Line Color" Style="{StaticResource ItemNameTextBlockStyle}"/>
<Button Style="{StaticResource ColorButtonStyle}" Click="Color_Click">
<Button.Content>
<Rectangle x:Name="LineColorRect" Style="{StaticResource ColorSelectionRectangleStyle}" />
</Button.Content>
</Button>
</StackPanel>
Above is one example of stack panels I am using. In the code behind the function "Color_Click" will change this "ColorOption" stack panel state and do something.
However after I try to put this stack panel into Windows.Resources
<Window.Resources>
<StackPanel x:Name="ColorOption" Visibility="Collapsed" x:Key="ColorOption">
<TextBlock Text="Line Color" Style="{StaticResource ItemNameTextBlockStyle}"/>
<Button Style="{StaticResource ColorButtonStyle}" Click="Color_Click">
<Button.Content>
<Rectangle x:Name="LineColorRect" Style="{StaticResource ColorSelectionRectangleStyle}" />
</Button.Content>
</Button>
</StackPanel>
</Window.Resources> (I also put the style files inside)
In the tab controls I did
<TabControl>
<TabItem Header="Tab 1" Content="{StaticResource ColorOption}"/>
</TabControl>
The visual studio shows error in the code behind says "ColorOption does not exist in the current context"
How can I fix this? Is any way to set the context? thank you
You can simply wrap the StackPanel in ContentControl and make it ControlTemplate.
<ControlTemplate x:Key="ColorOptionTemplate" TargetType="{x:Type ContentControl}">
<StackPanel x:Name="ColorOption" Visibility="Collapsed">
<TextBlock Text="Line Color" Style="{StaticResource ItemNameTextBlockStyle}"/>
<Button Style="{StaticResource ColorButtonStyle}" Click="Color_Click">
<Button.Content>
<Rectangle x:Name="LineColorRect" Style="{StaticResource ColorSelectionRectangleStyle}"/>
</Button.Content>
</Button>
</StackPanel>
</ControlTemplate>
However, you will need to change properties of controls inside the ContentControl and it would be cumbersome. So the StackPanel could be wrapped in UserControl instead.
<UserControl x:Class="WpfApp1.ColorOptionControl"
xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml">
<StackPanel x:Name="ColorOption" Visibility="Collapsed">
<TextBlock Text="Line Color" Style="{StaticResource ItemNameTextBlockStyle}"/>
<Button Style="{StaticResource ColorButtonStyle}" Click="Color_Click">
<Button.Content>
<Rectangle x:Name="LineColorRect" Style="{StaticResource ColorSelectionRectangleStyle}"/>
</Button.Content>
</Button>
</StackPanel>
</UserControl>
This is a common way in WPF. The downside is that you will need to add dependency properties to UserControl and wire up them with dependency properties of internal controls so that you can set their values at the level of UserControl and bridge them with external controls and window. This could be complicated and cumbersome as well.
So I think ideally it would be better to find an existing control which has similar functionalities you want and create a custom control deriving from the existing one.

C# WPF MaterialDesign In Xaml Toolkit DialogHost. The background window behind the dialog box is not darkened

The background window is not darkened when DialogHost is called, meaning the dialog is not modal. The back window remains active. Although in the Github example works correctly. I don't know where I'm going.
XAML:
<materialDesign:DialogHost x:Name="DH_getLoadingList"
HorizontalAlignment="Center"
VerticalAlignment="Center"
CloseOnClickAway="True"
OverlayBackground="{DynamicResource PrimaryHueDarkBrush}" DialogTheme="Inherit" Grid.RowSpan="5" Grid.ColumnSpan="5">
<materialDesign:DialogHost.DialogContent>
<StackPanel Margin="16" Orientation="Vertical">
<Label Content="The row will be deleted." FontSize="16" />
<StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
<Button Content="OK" Style="{DynamicResource MaterialDesignFlatButton}" IsDefault="True" Margin="0,8,8,0" />
<Button Content="Cancel" Style="{DynamicResource MaterialDesignFlatButton}" Margin="0,8,8,0" />
</StackPanel>
</StackPanel>
</materialDesign:DialogHost.DialogContent>
</materialDesign:DialogHost>
C# code:
private void GettingFuelListCommand_Executed(object sender, ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e)
{
DH_getLoadingList.IsOpen = true;
}
UPDATED
I just had a misunderstanding the DialogHost structure. The correct way is
<Window>
<materialDesign:DialogHost>
<materialDesign:DialogHost.DialogContent>
<--! dialog content ... -->
</materialDesign:DialogHost.DialogContent>
<--! the correct location of the page content ... -->
</materialDesign:DialogHost>
<--! incorrect location of the page content ... -->
<Window/>
I know this is more than a year late. But when you put these properties:
HorizontalAlignment="Center"
VerticalAlignment="Center"
The overlay background will not appear, if you remove these, the problem will go away. The dialog will always be centered so don't need to worry about it's relative position to it's parent container.

WPF : ListBox.ItemTemplate doesn't react when click on text or image wpf xaml

I'm new to Xaml and WPF . I'm using the following code to extract botton title and image from RSS feeds .
The problem that the botton react only when user click on the border ... it dosen't react when user click on text or image .
<ListBox.ItemTemplate >
<DataTemplate >
<Button Background="{Binding C:AccentColors}" Width="400" Height="100" HorizontalAlignment="Left" >
<Grid Width="400" Height="100" >
<Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
<ColumnDefinition Width="*"/>
<ColumnDefinition Width="10"/>
<ColumnDefinition Width="2*"/>
</Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
<Image Source="{Binding XPath=enclosure/#url}" Grid.Column="0" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" />
<TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="{Binding XPath=title}" FontWeight="Bold" Grid.Column="2"/>
</Grid>
</Button>
</DataTemplate>
</ListBox.ItemTemplate>
</ListBox>
You have to add the Click event in your button.
<Button Background="{Binding C:AccentColors}" Width="400" Height="100" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Click="MethodNameHere".....
and also you have to create and implement the method in the Window C# file
The common mistake is that somebody placed TextBlock on top of button without realizig it, because TextBlock has transparent Background.
Visually, the Text of TextBlock may be outside Button, but since TextBlock alignment is set to strech by default, it fills entire area.
hard to say if this is your case...
<Grid>
<Button Content="I'm not working" Margin="0,100,0,0" />
<TextBlock Text="I'm in top left corner" />
<Grid />
if you set TextBlock.Background to Red, you entire grid would be red.
The button is taking the clicks. You need a handler, either a command binding or if you're not using MVVM - a code behind method:
<Button Click="ButtonBase_OnClick"
Handler will look like this:
private void ButtonBase_OnClick(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
}

how to extend WPF GridRow Contents into next row without expanding the current row

I'm new to WPF and I'm trying to build a dropdown menu using the expander. Page layout is being handled with a Grid.
The extender sits inside the first row of the grid and I would I would like the contents of the expander to expand over top of the contents of everything below when it's clicked. Unfortunately, right now, the entire row is expanded to accommodate the height of the expanded control.
I tried playing around with the ZIndex of the Expander but it doesn't seem to have any effect. No matter what, the row always expands forcing everything else on the page to move.
<Expander FontSize="18" Name="moduleSelect" Width="100" Header=" Goto -> "
Background="#000033" MouseEnter="moduleSelect_MouseEnter"
MouseLeave="moduleSelect_MouseLeave" Foreground="White"
Grid.Column="0" Grid.ColumnSpan="3" Grid.Row="1" HorizontalAlignment="Left">
<StackPanel>
<Button Name="btnTasks" Width="100" Foreground="White"
Background="#000033">Tasks</Button>
<Button Name="btnNotes" Width="100" Foreground="White"
Background="#000033">Notes</Button>
</StackPanel>
</Expander>
How can I make this expand 'above' the subsequent rows without distorting the grid?
What would happen if you set the Grid.RowSpan of the Expander to 2 (or how ever many rows you'd like it to span when expanded)?
So, for a two-row grid, you'd have something like this:
<Grid>
<Grid.RowDefinitions>
<RowDefinition Height="30" /> <!--set this to the height of the expander's header area-->
<RowDefinition Height="Auto" />
</Grid.RowDefinitions>
<WhateverGoesInRow2 Grid.Row="1" />
<Expander FontSize="18" Name="moduleSelect" Width="100" Header=" Goto -> "
Background="#000033" MouseEnter="moduleSelect_MouseEnter"
MouseLeave="moduleSelect_MouseLeave" Foreground="White"
Grid.Column="0" Grid.ColumnSpan="3" HorizontalAlignment="Left"
Grid.Row=0 Grid.RowSpan="2">
<StackPanel>
<Button Name="btnTasks" Width="100" Foreground="White" Background="#000033">Tasks</Button>
<Button Name="btnNotes" Width="100" Foreground="White" Background="#000033">Notes</Button>
</StackPanel>
</Expander>
</Grid>
You may need to adjust your RowDefinition section for your particular situation, but if I'm understanding your problem correctly, I think this will work.
You want something that pops up over the grid, not expands within the grid. A ComboBox, say, or - this being a menu, after all - a ContextMenu.
You could also build some combination of a ToggleButton and a Popup, but that's essentially the same thing as a ComboBox with IsEditable turned off.
The built-in drop-down control makes use of a Popup control in its default control template to do a similar thing.

Change content of ImageButton programatically (WPF)

I am using a ImageButton as
<Button Width="80" Height="25"
VerticalAlignment="Top"
HorizontalAlignment="Right"
HorizontalContentAlignment="Center"
VerticalContentAlignment="Center"
Margin="0,0,1.5,0"
Name="btnActivate"
Click="OnActivate">
<StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Margin="3">
<Image Source="Shutdown.ico"
Width="12" Height="12"
Margin="0,0,5,0"/>
<TextBlock>Activate</TextBlock>
</StackPanel>
</Button>
I want to change the Content of button to 'Deactivate' when I click on it without changing the image. How can I do that? And also I need to some operations based on the content of button in my C# code.
You could just add a name to the TextBlock
<TextBlock Name="textBlock1">Activate</TextBlock>
and use it to modify the content in your OnActivate event handler
textBlock1.Text = "Deactivate";
