I use Safari Books Online as a reference library and to evaluate book before I decide to buy a paper copy, but it doesn't include any Apress books. Is there a better alternative you would recommend?
Edit: Safari Books Online now includes Apress titles which makes it the most complete reference library on the web in my opinion.

With my ACM membership, I get access to both Safari and Books24x7 (this includes Apress).
The selection is reduced from the total offering of those sites (600 in Safari only available to professional members and 500 in Books24x7 available to both student and professional members), but I find it's well worth the ACM annual membership, especially when you factor in the other benefits.
There is a discount for first year members: http://learnmore.acm.org/joinacm5.html
Our local library (nutrias.org) does have ebooks for free also, but I haven't looked to see if they have technical books. In addition, they are term-limited with DRM (yuk).

I use paper books and use Amazon as a reference

Cade,
Not the answer you are looking for but if you are paying for Safari check around your local library systems and make sure you cannot get it for free.

Here in Santa Clara county, California, we can access the library e-resources, including Safari, from the library's website.

I have embedded developement board (LPCXXXX) with me. I would like to do various experiments with that. I am not getting experiment ideas.
Please suggest me some good websites where I will get some good project/experiment ideas. I am looking for embedded system projects with source code in internet.
I am unable to find it.
Please help me where I will get embedded system project with source code (Video tutorial is an added advantage)
:-In tag I have added C because I did not find EmbeddedC tag.
Try Martin Thomas's ARM Projects site for a number of projects specifically for various LPC devices and also other ARM micro-controllers which could easily be adapted for LPC.
That's a rather broad question as you don't give much about what aspects of the embedded project you're looking for. The Kernel? The OS (making it small with things like busybox)?
But one good reference might be the Raspberry Pi project you might have heard about recently. It has it's linux kernel published, along with all the necessary OS components.

Is it good to build a high traffic sites using CakePHP? I am using CakePHP for several projects, but they're very low traffic. Any examples of such site or how can I improve the performance?
This video probably sums up the answer for you (and gives a lot of good details / information) on "CakePHP at massive scale on a budget"
It talks about how they use CakePHP on VERY HIGH traffic site, how it worked, and how it ran...etc.
I believe it was on 1.2 or 1.3 as well, which is significantly slower than 2.0, so - yes - CakePHP is a completely valid option for high-traffic sites. Obviously sites like Facebook will have their own lighter, in-house framework, but - I think that's a problem not worrying about until you reach that point (and by then you'll be a millionaire anyway and won't care) :)

Does anyone know any good (and recent) resources for designing expert systems?
As far as I know, there is not much recent development in expert systems. This book is a classic (last edition is from 2004).
we are taking an Expert systems course in our college and we are using this book :
Artificial Intelligence: A Guide to Intelligent Systems
and using Clips Language for programming expert systems
the book is pretty Good and discussing Modern topics ( see the latest version )
and it introduces well the parts related to fuzzy logic and neural networks which is related to ExpertSystems .
i recommend starting exploration from the internet and the book for some time
then start knowing the science from the book and implement using the CLIPS language

I was wondering if anybody knew of a list of NFC Capable phones. I believe certain iPhones and a Nexus phone are capable of NFC. Are there any more at the current time? More specifically, does the Droid2 have NFC capabilities?
Thanks in advance :D
Try this list, updated daily. It's as close to definitive as you'll find:
http://www.nfcworld.com/nfc-phones-list/
(Disclosure: I maintain this list)
There's only one commercially available NFC handset, Samsung's Nexus S on the Android platform. The rest are concept phones that had limited production runs. AFAIK there's no iPhone with an integrated NFC chip, but there is at least one add-on module for the iPhone which adds NFC as external hardware. Rumor has it that the iPhone 5 will have integrated NFC, and I recently heard another rumor that it won't ;)

Can anyone recommend a Silverlight 2 book? [closed]

Even though Silverlight2 is still in it's infancy, can anyone recommend a book to get started with? One that has more of a developer focus than a designer one?
I have this one pre-ordered: "Programming Silverlight 2"
by Jesse Liberty and Tim Heuer. The authors are both employed by Microsoft working on Silverlight 2, and their blogs are great, so I expect the book (to be released after RTM) to be up to date.
I have seen some of the work done by Laurent... wait for his book

Sams Silverlight 2 Unleashed
I'm currently working my way through Introducing Microsoft Silverlight 2, so far so good.
It's a typical Microsoft book serving up the koolaid, but gives a good introduction. I saw the guy speak at one of the local .NET User Groups in the Metro Detroit area and was impressed.

I've started reading Silverlight 2 in Action which seems pretty ok. One good thing is that because they have an early access program, you can get most of the book as an electronic copy already now. Even though the full book is not due to be released until sometime in October.
A lot of the books available are simply a rehash of the help files. Your best bet would be to start at silverlight.net and read the Help files that get installed with the SDK. Then when Jesse Liberty's book is released read that.
