How do I do a manual uninstall of Oracle? - database

Sometimes my Oracle database on Windows gets hosed. How do I do a manual uninstall of Oracle?

The six-step process to remove all things Oracle from a Windows machine:
A. Delete the Oracle services:
In the registry, go to
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
and delete everything that starts with "Oracle"
B. Remove other Oracle stuff from the registry:
Go to \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and delete the key ORACLE
C. Reboot
D. Delete all the Oracle software from the directories where you installed it
E. Delete the Oracle software inventory:
Delete the directory C:\Program Files\Oracle. You must do this no matter where you installed your Oracle software - the Oracle installer automatically writes information here.
F. Delete all shortcuts from your Start menu.
G. Remove the Oracle directories from PATH Environment Variable.
To simplify cleanup in the future, I'd strongly recommend you install your Oracle products in one or more virtual machines.

Have a look at:
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/misc/ManualOracleUninstall.php
Basically, it comes down to:
Remove all you can with the installer.
Remove Oracle keys from the registry.
Remove the Oracle directories from your computer.
With (of course) the requisite reboots thrown in as required ;-)

It's worth noting that there is an official Oracle standalone deinstaller: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e47689/remove_oracle_sw.htm#LADBI1332, which I just used to uninstall Oracle 11 client. This is not necessarily better or easier to use than the top suggestion on this page, but it is "official".
One thing to note - if you use the official deinstaller, it does not like the temp folder to have spaces in it. So if you have it set to "Documents and Settings...\temp" it will fail. Use the control panel environment settings button to SET the TEMP folder first.

Uninstall Oracle 10g from window 7, Xp
step 1 : Open up the start menu and in program files look for oracle – oraDb10g_home folder, and select oracle installation products – > Universal Installer.
step 2 : Select Deinstall Product, which will pop up new window , select check box oracleDb10g_home1 as shown below. Click on remove button. This will remove oracle.
step 3 : Remove the registration file from Regedit, in order to remove oracle 10g completely. Run Regedit.
Delete the following keys if it exits after the un-installation.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ORACLE HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application\Oracle.oracle
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\OracleDBConsole
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Oracle10g_home
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\OraclService
step 4 : Now delete the folder where you have installed the software. By default, it is installed in c drive as C:\oracle and from C:\programs files\oracle.
Hence by doing this steps successfully, Oracle 10g is removed completely. If you are having any problem in removing or uninstalling the program,(oracle ) then do comment below, we will look on that.

The tips for using a VM enviroment is the best: no worries about deinstalling. Just install a complete Oracle enviroment and after one succesfull run: winrar the VM ... after corrupting the Oracle home once again: just delete the current VM and unrar the backup

This seems way too simple, but in Windows I was able to uninstall Oracle by going into Settings > Apps and Features finding the Oracle database clicking it and then uninstall. I didn't even need a password.

Assuming a unix type OS and that you properly installed it using an account named oracle...
find / -user oracle -exec rm -fr {} \;
That having been said, this must be done as root and you had better not mind loss of any and all files that belong to oracle. There will be no... NO recovery from this method.

All the services of Oracle 18c aren't installing. couldn't connect to Sql plus

I tried almost all the articles there is on this error. But in my case the services aren't installed. So i can't change them. I had 10g installed before but i needed to use Oracle for python too so I removed that. And also i did reset my pc(keep my files) after that. But now i have tried multiple times to install Oracle 18c but not working.
I.e modifying listener and sqlplus sys/mypassword as sysdba or many more.
These are the screenshots.
This is very frustrating. Any suggestions? Also What is the alternative for homepage of 10g in 18c.
I also tried running setup.exe from zip folder directly. But no luck.
Your screen shots clearly show that the services are indeed installed, your assertion otherwise notwithstanding. You even have sqlplus waiting to do your bidding. But you invoke it incorrectly.
The protocol error (ora-12560) occurs when 1) you do not specify a connect string when you invoke sqlplus thus causing it to try to connect to a local database specified by the environment variable ORACLE_SID, and 2) the environment ORACLE_SID does not specify an actual local database.
Unfortunately, your screen shot does not show how you invoked sqlplus, thus losing important diagnostic info. Far better to start cmd.exe, invoke sqlplus, then copy the entire text and paste that into your question, with formatting. I leave it as an exercise for the student to research how to do those elementary tasks.

How do I disable The Just in Time Debugger?

Just provisioned a new server running IIS and Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012. I also installed SQL Server Management Studio tool so I can quickly inspect databases without the need to open a remote connection.
When I browse an ASP.NET sites remotely, I get a Just-in-time debgugger exception dialog when an error is encountered in addition to the yellow screen. The dialog stays up on the server and piles up unless I RDP and manually close all the dialog boxes.
The only way to disable this is by removing Visual Studio Shell 2010 (integrated) using the control panel. The side effect is that I can no longer use SSMS.
Most of the available solutions are outdated or don't work. The registry settings are no longer applicable and most articles concerning this issue are old. Microsoft's official documentation is a rat's nest of broken links. Moreover, many users are confusing IE's script debugging dialog with this issue. Although they are related and similar, this specific issue is tied to Visual Studio's runtime environment.
Any ideas?
ASIDE: I can't believe Microsoft has this "feature" on a product that is installed on a production server. I am just floored by the incompetence of a multi-billion dollar corporation. I've seen my question asked since at least since 2005 with no official solution that works. I just have to ask one last time for sanity checking. I want to make sure I'm not the one who is "thick" in the head here.
To disable Just-In-Time debugging by editing the registry
In the Start menu, click Run.
In the Run dialog box, type regedit, then click OK.
In the Registry Editor window, locate and delete the follow registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug\Debugger
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\DbgManagedDebugger
If your computer is running a 64-bit operating system, delete the following registry keys also:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug\Debugger
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\DbgManagedDebugger
Take care not to accidentally delete or change any other registry keys.
Instead of deleting it, you can also just (temporarily) rename the AeDebug key for the bitness of your choice to something else, e.g. AeDebug-disable!
For server 2012, IIS, and SSMS 2014 we tried all three registry three deletions and those did not work.
What did work was old school renaming the JIT Debug executable.
Renamed these files.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vsjitdebugger.exe
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\vsjitdebugger.exe
Renamed this folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug
As a follow-up to nfox's answer, I've created a registry file that you can simple use instead of searching manually through regedit.exe.
1.) Copy this script to your clipboard:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug]
"Debugger"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework]
"DbgManagedDebugger"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug]
"Debugger"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework]
"DbgManagedDebugger"=-
2.) Save it to a file with the .reg extension:
E.g. to a file named
C:\Users\<user name>\Desktop\DisableJit.reg
3.) Double click the file
After confirming the appearing message box, the keys are getting deleted.
5.) Alternatively: Download file
If this is too much effort, you can download the registry file from here:
disable-the-just-in-time-debugger-windows-64-bit.reg
disable-the-just-in-time-debugger-windows-64-bit.zip (As a ZIP)
Download and then double-click it.
This tip was simply taken from the MSDN article "Just-In-Time Debugging in Visual Studio".
The syntax on how to delete registry keys via a .reg file was taken from the MSDN KB article "How to add, modify, or delete registry subkeys and values by using a .reg file".
You should be able to disable Jist-In-Time debugging using the Debug options dialog inside Visual Studio. The registry keys are also well documented here.

Aside: I think it's not a wise thing to install a management studio on a production server. This is what management workstations are for. Remote connections from a management station can be pre-configured and stored so that it doesn't take much effort. That way you can keep your production environment clean.

db2 database creation

I installed db2 client in my system for personal use. I am not able to understand from where to create the database so that i can create tables on that db and play around with sql queries as of now.
This is totally related to my personal use and learning purpose.
Please inform how to create a dummy database and play around with it with db2 client?
Regards,
Are you on Windows? Are you using DB2 Express-C? I'm assuming you are, since you say this is for personal work.
After you have the DB2 binaries installed, you should have been prompted with the "DB2 First Steps" application, where you could have the application go through a GUI to create the database for you. If you missed it, you should be able to find it in your start menu with Start -> Programs -> IBM DB2 -> DB2COPY1 (Default) -> Set-up Tools -> First Steps.
If you prefer the command line, you can use the following:
First, determine if your installation created a default instance (on Windows, this will be called DB2) by using the db2ilist command. In the DB2 Command Window, if you're not on the instance you want to create a database in, you can switch with the following command:
set db2instance=DB2
Be sure to not include spaces around the equal sign.
Now, in order to create a database in the current instance, you use this command:
db2 create database mydatbase
For further reading, IBM has produced a Getting Started ebook, and I would highly recommend you check it out!
The DB2 client is just that - a client only. It does not include the database engine.
To create a database you have to install the server. The server includes the client portions.

Oracle Database Mobile Server first steps

I download jdeveloper studio edition and install it in C:\Oracle\Middleware
then I install weblogic instance using C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\common\bin\config.exe
to C:\myproject\domains\myweblogic
Then download DMS_11.1.0.0.0_WINDOWS.zip and install it to C:\Oracle\Middleware\Mobile.
thereafter cant start
C:\Oracle\Middleware\Mobile\Mobile\Server\bin\runmobileserver.bat
unless i change the variable to this batch file
set DOMAIN_DIR=C:\myproject\domains\myweblogic
what do I do next to see that it works?
is there a simple example that creates a sigle table and synchronized between server and mobile clients?
very difficult to find information on this technology. interfere very popular tags (Oracle, Database).
If you install Database Mobile Server directly in the WebLogic directory, you will not need to edit the batch file. For instance, I believe the default install directory is:
C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3
So if you used the default install directory, you would install Database Mobile Server there, with no added 'Mobile' or other directory. If you chose to install WebLogic elsewhere, then replace the above with that directory.
There is another small issue to be aware of.
The installer will give you warning about installing in a non-empty
directory. You should click through the warning. This is a known issue
documented in the Release Notes.
Regarding your other question about a demo, there is a Java demo found in
<MOBILE_HOME>\Mobile\Server\demos\consolidator_api
You will need to download a client and perform a sync, which is documented here:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E22663_01/doc.11100/e22681/instsqlite.htm#BABGAACI
I hope that helps, good luck with your project. Let me know if you have further questions.

Reinstall xampp

Im using a mac. Xampp stopped working after the latest update 10.6.8 and I think it may be a direct result of the update. Anyway, Id like to reinstall xampp however i didnt backup my database and i cant get into localhost/phpmyadmin to import it. Is there anyway I can backup my database another way and reinstall xampp? or is there another problem as to why the pages dont load.
I get this error when i go to localhost/phpmyadmin: The requested URL /phpmyadmin was not found on this server.
When you use XAMPP, it automatically freezes all the other database. If you are using mysql, you can backup them either using
1.mysqladmin tool (http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/gui-tools/5.0.html)
directly login as the admin and select the databases that you need and backup.
or
2.using command line (manual backup):
goto mysql/bin and then follow this tutorial: http://linux.byexamples.com/archivesc/90/backup-and-restore-mysql-database/
When you uninstall xampp, the databases (in var/mysql) and the htdocs folders are not normally deleted by the uninstall wizard. When you reinstall xampp, those existing folders will be used. It's also a good idea to back up those folders directly to reduce the risk of loss.
