We created a Linux Web App in Microsoft Azure. The application is static written with React (html and Javascript).
We copied the code into the wwwroot folder, but the application only showing only hostingstart.html and when we try to get page index.html we have this error:
Cannot GET /index.html
We tried with a sample of Azure in GitHub (https://github.com/Azure-Samples/html-docs-hello-world) but the error is the same.

Last week the application was running correctly.
We forget to do something?
MAY 2020 - You don't have to add any javascript files or config files anywhere. Let me explain.
I was facing this exact same issue and wasted 6 hours trying everything including the most popular answer to this question. While the accepted answer is a nice workaround (but requires more work than just adding the index.js file), there's something a simpler than that.
You see, when you just deploy an Azure Web App (or App Service as it is also called), two things happen:
The web app by default points to opt/startup/hostingstart.html
It also puts a hostingstart.html in home/site/wwwroot
When you deploy your code, it replaces hostingstart.html in home/site/wwwroot but the app is still pointing to opt/startup/hostingstart.html. If you want to verify this, try deleting opt/startup/hostingstart.html file and your web app will throw a "CANNOT GET/" error.
So how to change the default pointer? It's simpler than it looks:
Go to Configuration tab on your web app and add the following code to startup script:
pm2 serve /home/site/wwwroot --no-daemon
If this web app is a client-side single-page-app and you're having issues with routing, then add --spa to the above command as follows:
pm2 serve /home/site/wwwroot --no-daemon --spa
This will tell the web app to serve wwwroot folder. And that's it.

PS: If you only set the startup script without deploying your code, it will still show the hostingstart.html because by default that file lies in the wwwroot folder.
Ok you are gonna love this. This happened to me today also. Same exact thing.
I am pretty sure the azure team flipped a switch somewhere and we fell through a crack.
I found this obscure answer with no votes and it did the trick (with a little extra finagling)

Steps:
Go to your azure portal, select your app service and launch ssh
In ssh terminal, navigate via command line to /home/site/wwwroot
create index.js there with the following code:

NOTE: Be sure to run npm install --save express also in this folder else your app service will crash on startup
Be sure to restart your app service if it doesn't do so automagically
A workaround, I changed the webapp stack to PHP 7
Another solution would be to add a file called ecoysystem.config.js right next to your index.html file.

This will tell pm2 to associate all requests to index.html as your app service starts up.

There are usually 3 situations where people are making mistake.
They set up bad public folder when firebase init. This setup is in firebase.json file.

They build project then init and by mistake when init they overwrite index.html file.
They have server side rendering app. Hosting should redirect requests to a firebase function but what they not know is that every home page request is equal to example.com/index.html when hosting has this file it not trigger function and return file. So you need to rename it before deploying.
Might be late to this but for anyone having this problem. The solution is just to wait. Most likely the google servers near you don't have the latest information about your site. You can usually access the site anyway by using USA VPN.
I have an existing ASP.NET Core application (that uses razor pages) and I am trying to convert it, one component at a time, to React until I can completely make it a SPA. The idea is to create an entry point for each of my razor pages until I can combine them all into one SPA. I have most of this working except for the use of webpack-dev-server to serve my bundles. The problem I am having is the ASP.NET app runs on port 44321 and the dev server runs on port 8080 so the script tags in my .cshtml files cannot see the bundles that are being hosted from webpack.
I can temporarily change them from:
<script src="./dist/[name].bundle.js"></script>
To something like:
<script src="http://localhost:8080/[name].bundle.js"></script>
To get around this, but this is not long term solution.

Is there any way to either get my ASP.Net application to listen on the port that webpack-dev-server is serving to (without changing my script tags) or to have my webpack-dev-server serve to the port that my ASP.Net app is running on?
I have tried to use the .NET CORE SPA middleware (Microsoft.AspNetCore.SpaProxy) but either I have not configured it correctly or I am misunderstanding what it is used for. Upon adding in the below code (which is commented out in my github sample) my application still looks at the .\dist directory for my bundles (which are still there from running actual builds).

I ended up getting this working using the .NET Core SPA Middleware. When I originally tried to used the middleware, it was working fine, but I didn't have my webpack dev server configured to serve my bundles to the correct location.
As you can see above, I was serving them to
http://localhost:8080/[name].bundle.js
when they needed to be served to
http://localhost:8080/dist/[name].bundle.js
My problem was that my webpack publicPath was not set correctly. I made an update commit on my repository here. More specifically, this was the file diff that solved my problem.
I was hoping to deploy a Next.js app with Laravel API. I had developed React apps with CRA and in those I used the API server to serve the index.html of the CRA as the entry point of the app.
But in Next.js, after development I get to know that it needs a Node.js server to serve (which is my bad, didn't notice that). There is an option next export that builds a static representation of the Next.js app and it has an index.html. I am serving the index.html as the entry of the app by my Laravel API. It is serving the page, but just some of the static contents.
What I was hoping to know is it possible to host the aPI and the Next app from a single PHP shared hosting without any node server? If so, how? If not so, what could be the alternatives?
Actually the acepted answer is completly wrong, when you do yarn build and in your package.json is set like "build": "next build && next export", you will get an out folder which all the items in there are used to build without node.js server
Now since you are using laravel, and you use the out folder you will only load half of the page because the routes are not set properly. for that to work you need to edit your next.config.js edit it to

These will set the root directory to the root one in Laravel. now this will work for SPA (single page application) only for the dynamic routes you need to match with a view file for each one that you have in your out folder
For each route that you have you need to create a new "get" route in laravel

Notice that you can pass a wildcard for dynamic routes and they are all gonna work. once you do that and you deploy route out folder inside /resources/views in Laravel it's going to work
Apparently there is no alternative to nodejs server, which is not an option for me currently, so I unfortunately had to abandon next.js and create a CRA app and used as much from the next.js as I could.
I'm using Nextjs for a front-end application and dotnet core 3.1 for the Web API. There are some pages that are static and other that are dynamic I followed the official documentation to achieve this. On development mode (local machine) everything works fine. Both static and dynamic routes are working properly and fetching data from the dontnet core Web API.
However, when publishing the Nextjs app following this steps:
yarn build
yarn export
An out folder is generated at the root of the project
The content of that folder is uploaded to the server
After, the deployed files are uploaded and when loging to the app, it redirects to the main page (until here is working OK), but as soon as I click on the reload page botton (Chrome) I am gettint the 404 error.
Looking at the console in the developer tools I got this:
I found this Stackoverflow link with same issue but there the answer is to use Express for server routing. In my case I am using dotnet core Web API for server requests. So, not sure how to do that.
Is there a way to fix this from the client side? Might be a configuration is missing?
The only thing I noticed while doing the export was a message saying: No "exportPathMap" found. Not sure if that would the the reason.
I had got similar issue in react when all of my pages after building and exporting had ".html" extensions. I solved it by the following code in next.config.js file.

Note: Do not work with the above code while in development. Use it just before building the project.

I had a similar issue where after deploying the out folder created by next export all URL's would redirect me to the homepage. Everything was working fine during development and all URL's were accessible with next/link but in order to access pages with a URL I had to add a .html extension at the end of the URL.
Because I needed a quick workaround I added a useEffect block in the _app.tsx file for rerouting so that upon landing on the homepage it would act as if a Link component was clicked redirecting to the entered URL.

I'm building a multi tenant app in React (with Webpack setup via base, dev and prod config files), and I'm wondering the best way to create and access per-tenant variables.
When I run my app with:
npm run start tenant1
I am able to access tenant1 in Webpack by using this:
const tenant1 = process.argv[process.argv.length -1];
However, now I'm wondering what is the best way to make that variable globally accessible. My hope is to use that variable to the create a folder structure within the app along the lines of:
/app/${tenant}/img/
/app/${tenant}/css/
/app/${tenant}/components/
Ideally without having to import a variable into every single javascript file.
Any suggestions or links to existing setups would be greatly appreciated.

I've found a way to achieve this with Create-react-app, not perfect but it works and achieves the following:
Run a React app on port 3000 that works for multiple domains simultaneously.
Forward all requests not handled by React to a back end.
Optionally use SSL in development.
Create-react-app has a proxy option that is very easy to setup. Simply add the following line to your package.json file:
"proxy": "http://localhost:5000"
However, this will not work for multiple domains. There is a more advanced proxy configuration available.
After following these steps, you will be able to control where different requests are sent, but it does not entirely provide the ability to proxy multiple domains - to achieve this:
Create the file .env in the root of your create-react-app project.
Add the following to it:
NODE_PATH=src/
DANGEROUSLY_DISABLE_HOST_CHECK=true
# optionally add this line for SSL in development
HTTPS=true
From the advanced proxy instructions above, you should end up with a file called setupProxy.js in the root of your /src folder - change to the following:

The magic part is the https://[::1]: 8000, which will forward all domains from the root request to the same back end. This doesn't seem to be well documented anywhere, but I believe it is the IPv6 equivalent of 127.0.0.1.
After this, you can add entries to your hosts file (for example: 127.0.0.1 some-domain.example.com), and in your React app use just the paths (/api or /graphql) and requests should be proxied to the same domain as the browser is running on.

I ended up taking a fairly manual approach to this.
I'm using a react/redux boilerplate, but I've modified the npm scripts like so:

"start:tenant2": "cp -r ./tenants/tenant2 ./app/tenant && cross-env NODE_ENV=development node server",
Each tenant folder is copied to the app when the development server is run with the relevant command, and files are named the same within each tenant folder (masthead.svg, vars.js, etc) so that imports throughout the app can be static.
Mostly this works because I'm not using a node server in production, a static build folder is generated by the boilerplate.
