OK, I'm very new to AngularJS. I'm converting a rather rough-app (that I've been writing for a couple of days) from using mostly jQuery over to using Angular. [ I discovered Angular "mid-stream", while researching how to alleviate all the bookmark and back-button headaches I was running into.]
On my main page, I have a table of search results. (If the user arrives without passing any parameters, a default search is called to build the table. And, of course, they can use a search form on that page to show themselves a different set of results.)
Now, when the user clicks on a table item, I want that table to more or less "become" a drop-down menu on the Item Details page that can be used to navigate from one table item to the next. (The list will usually be less than 20 items long at any given time.) Same data, same sort order, just in a different control.
Rather than build that "Child" page so that (in addition to making Ajax calls to pull up the item details) it runs the exact same query AGAIN and then builds a drop-down out of it... I thought perhaps there was some more-efficient way to do it.
Perhaps, pass the entire object of objects from the search results on to the Details controller? (I would somehow have to also pass an id for whichever item the user actually clicked on for details as well.)
[With jQuery, I had been building both the drop-down and the table of results on the same page...and then just use show() and hide() to alternate which one I was displaying. And I would fetch the Item Details data and populate/show hidden details divs whenever a table row or drop-down option was selected.]
First I think you should use some kind of routing, maybe this can be helpful
https://github.com/angular-ui/ui-router
And second one, if you want to access same object with multiple controllers, you should use factory with your object, and all you need is to inject that factory into your controllers, and you will have access to the same object from multiple controllers. Here is the short tutorial, it's very easy to understand:
https://egghead.io/lessons/angularjs-sharing-data-between-controllers
And third option, but it's not nice, is to emit or broadcast event and send object from one controller, and in another one you can put a listener for that event, here you can find more information:

Sorry if my question is silly but I'm new to DNN/2sxc, I've spent the whole day trying to figure this with no success..
I have two instances of the same app, one in the home page and the other on its own page, each one must have its own view template (I use Razor).
My problem is I cannot figure a way to make the two apps read the same data, so every add/edit/remove/re-sort in one of them will be reflected to the other, currently each app has its own data and therefore they are unusable in my case.
I've tried to use a 'EntityTypeFilter' inside a 'Data Query' and use it in both views (as in the News-Simple demo video), it worked and gave me all the items in the two views, but another two problems come with this solution:
1- now I'm unable to use the toolbar to (add/remove/reorder,.. etc) any of the items , as you can see in this image, which is a show-stopper for me,
note: this is the toolbar I use:
#foreach(var item in AsDynamic(Data["Default"]))
{
...
#Edit.Toolbar(target: item, actions: "new,edit,replace,remove,moveup,movedown,instance-list")
2- the 'Content Demo Item' is also visible in the list, but it is not that important since I can delete it and use one of the real data items as a demo item.
I appreciate any kind of help.
Thank you.
So the first thing you should know is the difference when using content-items as data (to query, etc.) and when using it as assigned-items (where each module-instance has a subset of items). Here's the blog that should help you understand the difference: http://2sxc.org/en/blog/post/12-differences-when-templating-data-instead-of-content
So when you want the "manually and easily control the exact items displayed, their ordering etc." you want to use the "content-assigned-to-instance" which also gives you the simple add, delete buttons, as these don't really delete anything, but just remove the assignment from the module-instance.
Now your case is a bit special, in that you want to re-use the exact same set in another module-instance. There are a few ways you can do this:
Same View
if it's exactly the same view etc. just duplicate the module using DNN-features (the add-existing-module-to-another page)
different view
if it's a different view (maybe more compact, etc.) you again have multiple options. The first is to mirror / duplicate using the dnn-feature, and just put an if-im-on-this-page-then-show-differently or inject another CSS. That's probably the easiest without any dev-know-how.
The harder, but possibly nicer way, is to actually to use a new template, and tell it to retrieve the items in the way they are configured in the other module - let's say module 1 is the original, module 2 has a different template wanting to access the items of module 1 in exactly the same order as given in 1. They way to do this is simple, but requires a few lines of C# code in Module 2.
You need to create a new ModuleDataSource (https://2sxc.org/en/Docs/Feature/feature/4542) object and tell it that it's from Module 1. If you've never done this, it's basically that your code can create a query just like the visual designer, but you have more control - see the wiki https://github.com/2sic/2sxc/wiki/DotNet-DataSources-All. The Module-Data-Source in the visual-query-designer doesn't allow you to "switch" modules (a advanced setting we may add in the future) but the object has a ModuleId property which you can set before accessing the data, making it "switch" to that Module. here's the Pseudo code in your Module#2 razor...
var otherModData = CreateSource<ModuleDataSource>();
otherModData.ModuleId = 1;
foreach(var itm in AsDynamic(otherModData["Default"])) {
...
}
That should do it :)
I am trying to create a incident log in safesfore. The key aspect is that everything can be added on the same page reducing the amount of clicks that have to be made. There are 6 fields i have created:
Date Opened, Date closed, incident, reported to, reported by and notes.
I was wondering if there is a way to create an "add new" button that will create another row of the fields i have just lised. The idea being that the page does not refresh it is all done in real time.
Many thanks
You'll need a custom Visualforce page implementation.
There are 2 ways to do it
1) Building a list of records on apex and iterate over that list displaying the fields on the front end (vf page apex:repeat)-- Then when the button "add new" is clicked you'll append an empty record to the list and re-render the apex:repeat to reflect the changes.
This is good because you don't need a lot of boilerplate code since the records with be binded with the backend. However, the rerendering can lead to some performance issues in my experience.
2) Build a custom Javascript implementation, where you have an in memory collection and using DOM manipulation add/remove rows of the list. When the user saves the data from memory must be sent using JSON and a VF Remoting method can perform the JSON parsing and saving the rows.
Both are valid, the first is good to avoid boilerplate but the second is much faster (but you need to write some boilerplate).
i've the following hierarchy structure : Group -> Family -> products -> Product details.
each node is retrieve through an $http service.
i would like the user to be able to drill down until the final product details and i would also like no reloads when the user hits the back button as parents never changes.
i've succeeded to build the first part using routes and it works pefectly but now each time i want to go back the controller of the parent view (last view) is reloaded and i don't know how to avoid this reloading.
i am thinking of changing my way of doing it by having only 1 view (while 4 before) and manage the drill down through a directive, do you think it could be considered as a good practice ? how would you implement this ?
You could check out AngularUI Router, since one of its main feature is the ability to nest states & views.
Have a look at the UI-Router Demo, source code here.
I have a custom module in DNN 7 that has a data structure where items belong to categories (called "sections", not DNN taxonomy, just a simple list of section names). The module edit screens work so that on the view control you may click on an edit link on each category, which loads the category edit screen (passing the category id). This works great, and when you save I use Globals.NavigateURL() to return to the view screen. This all works as intended.
On each category edit screen I also have a list of the items within that category, each with an edit link. Clicking the edit link opens the item edit screen, passing the correct item id, and allowing me to edit that item. This all works great, until you save. The save works properly, but when I want to send the user back to the edit screen for the category it doesn't work. When I use:
Response.Redirect(EditUrl("SectionId", sectionid.ToString(), "EditSections"), true);
...nothing happens. It simply doesn't redirect anywhere. This is exactly the same URL I'm using to get to the category edit page in the first place:
EditUrl("SectionId", Eval("SectionId").ToString(), "EditSections")
And then I use a similar URL to get to the item edit page:
EditUrl("ItemId", Eval("ItemId").ToString(), "EditItems")
I don't understand why using the same URL to navigate to the same page I already navigated to would simply not do anything. For now I am sending them all the way back to the view, but it's painful if you need to add several items to the same category to have to navigate back into the category and add another item, only to be sent back to the view.
Anyone see anything like this before?
Have you tried to use the overload of NavigateUrl instead of EditUrl?
Globals.NavigateURL(TabId, "EditSections", "mid", ModuleId.ToString(), "SectionId", Eval("SectionId").ToString())
I haven't seen that myself but I would have to assume that somehow the context is being lost with EditURL and you're not getting sent to the proper location due to that.
I would suggest you try one of two things (or both).
Debug the URL that EditURL is returning and see if you can find the
difference.
Use NavigateURL for all your links and pass in MID=## for your
moduleid as a querystring parameter, to ensure that the proper
values are being passed.
UPDATE: If you're trying to have multiple edit views, and move between them, you might look at using a "loader" instead of having separate module definitions for the edit controls. Basically have a single Edit.ascx file defined, and it loads other ASCX files within it, injecting into a Panel. The View control on this module http://dnnsimplearticle.codeplex.com/ does that, but I haven't tried it with an edit control before.
In salesforce I need to create a visualforce page that includes the fields of 2 objects. The first object is the QUOTE object. The second objects is a custom object with several fields.
I want to create a visualforce page that shows the records of both QUOTE and the new object. Can I do this without creating a custom controller? If no any hints on the code for this new controller?
Can I do calculations between fields in a visualforce page?
Ideally I want this page to appear as soon as the QUOTE is set to ACCEPTED
1: You can't do this without a custom controller unfortunately, unless one object is related to the other and you're just happy displaying it as a related list on the parent object's page. For calculations you could use rollup summaries for some basic sums etc..
As for a custom controller, have a look at field sets for a super easy way to get fields into a VF page, you essentially configure groups of fields on your objects and then you can stick those groups onto a page with minimal markup.
2: For fields with complex calculations you'll want to do the sums in the controller and then expose the results through variables onto the page in the usual manner.
3: Not really possible without creating a custom edit page in the first place — you'd be better off having a button on the quote page to open up the Visualforce page, that page can simply display an error if the quote is not yet accepted. There are some other alternatives that might work though, like using a forumla field to generate a link to the page when the status is as you desire.
I'm happy to elaborate on any of this, but the fact that you're asking about number 2 would suggest to me that you don't have much experience developing on the platform (not a dig, just an observation), so unless you're comfortable coding in other environments you could find this quite tricky. That said, you're on stackoverflow so I'm thinking you probably know a little about coding at least!
