upload Code First DB to web server - sql-server

I have created my first website and I have used Code First to create the database on SQLExpress.
Now I wish to publish my website on a server, which only accepts SQL Server databases.
How can I do this? Is there a function in EF5 or VS to let me create the database, and take a .bak file and upload it on the server?
Or is there a better way to go around this?
Thanks

I do not know if this is the right approach however I found an easy way to do it.
I created a new SQL Server 2008 database with the same name as my database, and imported the data from the database in the App_Data folder. Then I changed my connectionstrings to point to this database (in SQL Server) and could then transfer it on my server

Migrate a .mdb app to Sql Server

I have a database in access and it haves "embeeded" code making the database works as a visual basic program via macros and vb programming.
But its not a Visual Basic application its like just code, forms, macros added to the access database.
The file format is .mdb or .mde
My question is:
Its possible to split the "application" and tables? Migrate that database to a SQL Server database and attach the "application" to the new database?
Yes, it is possible to migrate a .mdb file into SQL Server.
1) Just create a new database on SQL Server.
2) Right click the name of the database.
3) Click on tasks.
4) Click on Import Data...
5) Then browse to your .mdb file. There are instructions as you go along.
It sounds like you want to do exactly what the "SQL Server Migration Assistant" utility does. For more information, see

Free SQL Server in Azure

I'm creating a MVC 5 web application with EF 6 Code first. Now it creates a database in the App_Data folder. I want to publish the website to an Azure website. Because this is only the test version of the website, I don't want to pay for it. It will only visited a couple of times a month until it is in production.
Is it possible to run the database something like an access database file? I thought that some kind of functionality existed. I thought the name was SQL Server Compact Edition? But how does it works?
I also thought that you could create a free 20MB sql server database. See this link of the pricing page. Search for 20 in your browser.
http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/web-sites/
I don't see that option.
Any ideas would be welcome!
Yes, you just have to right click and include in your project.
I write an article for this in Chinese, and this is the English version I found.
Solution for free SQL Server in Azure:
Install two nuget: EntityFrame.SqlServerCompact & Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition
Put SQL database file (.sdf/.mdf) in APP_Data folder
Put connection string like this to use it:
<add name ="DefaultConnection" connectionString ="Data Source=|DataDirectory|CompactDB.sdf" providerName ="System.Data.SqlServerCe.4.0" />
Publish full project include above SQL database file to AzureWebsites.
It work well and is totally free.
I found the 20Mb free SQL Server option. I still had a website in my subscription that was stopped. When I deleted that, no website or database was there in my subscription anymore. I then created a new website via the custom website option in the azure portal. I then could select (in the wizard) a free 20 MB SQL Server database.
I uploaded my MVC application and the Code First created my database automatically. I don't know why the option wasn't showing up before but now it works.
There's no free version of the SQL Database service. What you may have read is that there's a 1 year free 20MB MySQL database available.
When you're saying that a database it created in the App_Data folder, this uses SQL Server Compact (see Maresh's links) and that is free.
If you want to connect on premise database you need to setup azure virtual network. See the codeproject article
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/261063/Azure-Virtual-Network-Connecting-Local-Database
there is some alternative way using azure service bus.

Another option would be sql server compact edition.

Deploying .bak file from SQL Server in Mac

Ok, I know this may sound stupid but, is there any way to deploy a database from a .bak file exported from SQL Server into any kind of Mac software? If there, which one?
If that is not possible, is there a way that I could deploy that database if I first deploy it into SQL Server and export it, maybe in a different way?
Thanks in advance.
The bak file created by SQL Server is a database backup file, and you will only be able to restore it to a Microsoft SQL Server instance.
If you want to port a MSSQL database to some other RDBMS, your best bet is to use a tool for migrating the data directly from the running MSSQL datbbase to another running RDBMS. Perhaps a third party tool, or you could build an SSIS package to do the migration.
You can create a MySQL database and try the MySQL migration tool.
But just given a .bak file, you will not be able simply to read the file; you will need to extract data from a running database instance.

Creating ::: Importing data in SQL server database

I am quite quite new to SQL server. I tried to create a database in SQL Server Management Studio Express. It has created the database but I did not find Import option in the menu when I right-clocked my Database, It should have been in Tasks, but it is not there. I want to use this databse in vb.net application.
1) Am I using the right tool to create the Access Database?
2) Where does this tool save the database?
Thanks

Yes you are using the correct tool to create a db.
I don't have the express version, but try this link. Hope it helps.
Make sure you set the db permissions correctly too. So others can access the db.

Copying Data from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Express

I would like to copy a database (tables, it’s data, stored procs & views) from SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express. Is it possible? If so, would you please let me know how to do it? When I tried, it is giving some error.
Please note that I have only few records in SQL Server 2008 database tables.
Thanks and Regards..

The quickest way is to "detach" the source database from its server, copy the (2) files to a new name/location and (re)attach each database to the appropriate server.
Attach/detach is available as a command or via the SQL Visual Studio.
You can create a backup of the database and them restore that backup into the Express instance.
Another option, since you said you didn't have very many records in the DB, is to generate the SQL statements (right click on the database --> tasks -> generate scripts) and then run that on the Express instance. Then just copy over the tuples you want.
I prefer to use Backup/Restore when moving a database from one server to another. As long as your SQL Server and SQL Express are the same version, or the one you are moving to is newer than the one you are moving from (SQL 2005 to SQL Express 2008), it should work without a hitch.
If copying the entire database, I usually find it easiest to stop the source service, copy the *.mdf file to the appropriate new data directory, and just mount the MDF in the new service. As long as there aren't any changes in the setup (like FILESHARE), then this is the easiest way to clone a database.
And yes, this is possible. I just did this earlier today.
You could also try using the Microsoft Database Publishing Wizard.
It's simple to use and will create a SQL script that you can run to rebuild tables (including data), stored procs, views, etc...
