I want to transfer data from tableA to tableB using SSIS. These tables are in the same server and database I am using OLEDB source and OLEDB destination. However it does not write any rows and there are no errors being reported.
If I change OLEDB source to read from a different server with the same database name it works. How can I recreate the SSIS package? All help appreciated.
Try to Use ADO.NET source and destination instead of OLEDB.
It wouldn't be problem if the tables are on same server, and database.
Create an Execute SQL task, which truncate you destination table.
Create a dataflow task, and create an ADO.NET source and destination inside the task.
If you haven't created package before:
you can also create SSIS package with ImportExportTool like this:
SSIS Tutorial, and check the Save SSIS package checkbox.
After the tool created the package, you can open it in visual studio and modify it.
The package will contain OLEDB source and destinations. It should work.
The data transformation components are very useful for a couple of issue.

You need to export data from SQL Server to Excel using SSIS, right? In SSIS, you need to create a data flow task. Inside the data flow task you need an OLEDB data source or an ADO.NET data source. Then you need an Excel destination. Connect the source and destination and configure the mappings and other settings. On the other hand, you can simply use the SQL Command that you are executing in the Execute SQL Task in an OLE DB Source which is more simple.
Hi I am using SSIS (MSSQL) to copy data between multiple tables. This has been working fine up until recently when the S.A.P. team keeps updating the schema of the tables without telling me.
I have multiple tables that they continue to add columns to; this in turn makes my SSIS job of copying the data across fail.
Is there a way in SSIS that I can look at the source table and adjust my destination table to reflect the changes on the fly?
I'm quite new at SSIS and don't mind running a script out of the GUI but wondered if this was an option within the GUI I'm already familiar with.
So in short, can I in SSIS allow for new columns being added to source tables and update my destination tables automatically to stop my jobs failing

You'll have to include the new columns in the data flow, i.e. source and destination (include and map them). So basically you CANNOT automate what you're looking for in SSIS. Hope it helps.
Look into BiML Script, which lets you create and execute SSIS packages dynamically based on the meta data available at run time.
I need a bit advice how to solve the following task:
I got a source system based on IBM DB2 (IBMDA400) which has a lot of tables that changes rapidly and daily in structure. I must load specified tables from the DB2 into a MSSQL 2008 R2 Server. Therefore i thought using SSIS is the best choice.
My first attempt was just to add both datasources, drop all tables in MSSQL and recreate them with a "Select * Into #Table From #Table". But I was not able to get this working because I could not connect both OLEDB Connections. I also tried this with an Openrowset statement but the SQL Server does not allow that for security reasons and I am not allowed to change that.
My second try was to manually read the tables from the source and drop and recreate the tables with a for each loop and then load the data via the Data Flow Task. But I got stuck on getting the meta data from the Execute SQL Task... so i dont got the column names and types.
I can not believe that this is too hard to archieve. Why is there no "create table if not exist" checkbox on the Data Flow Task?
Of course i searched for the problem here before but could not find a solution.

This is the solution i got at the end:
Create a File/Table which is used for selection of the source tables.
Important: Create a linked Server on your SQL Instance or a working Connectionstring for the OPENROWSET (i was not able to do so - i choosed the linked server)
Query source File/Table
Build a loop through the resultset
Use Variables and Script Task to build your query
Drop the destination table
Build another Querystring with INSERT INTO TABLE FROM OPENROWSET (or if you used linked Server OPENQUERY)
Execute this Statement
Done.
As i said above i am not quite happy with this but for now it should be ok. I will update this if i got another solution.
I am in the process of migrating a web application database from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008. Currently there is a DTS package that is used to deploy content changes from a staging database to the production database.
The DTS package is using a Copy SQL Server Objects task with the following options selected: Copy Data (Append Data) and Use Collation. The specific tables to copy are selected in the "Select Objects" dialog.
Because this is the only DTS package we have, it doesn't make much sense to learn and implement an SSIS solution, IMO, so I want to recreate the functioning of the DTS package using only T-SQL.
Writing the Insert and Select is not a problem. What I need to know is how the "Append Data" option works.
Is it looking at each row in the source, finding matching rows in the destination, comparing and updating as necessary OR is is ignoring existing rows and simply appending new rows?
If it is indeed comparing and updating, is it safe to use the SQL Server Checksum function on the data as a method of comparison against the target or is there a better way? Ideally, I'd like to avoid any schema changes.

You might be able to migrate the single DTS package to SSIS package very easily using the tool noted in the article.
How can I make identical output from a transformation go to two separate places e.g., an OLE DB destination and a DataReader destination?
Background:
I have an existing package that reads data from a text file, does some transformations, and loads the data into a SQL Server table.
Now I'm trying to make the package be callable from a reporting services report (SSRS). I'm following the instructions here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159215.aspx
It says to make my data go into a DataReader destination and then the report will have access to that. So I want the output of the final transformation to go to both the SQL table, and the DataReader destination.
Use the MULTICAST and send to a "DataReader destination" and "OLEDB destination" in your SSIS package.
When you create your datasets in SSRS, you should use the name of the Output object from your SSIS package. Your dataset in the report should then populate with fields, data, etc that from the SSIS package.
