WPF ListView TextBlock TextWrapping - wpf

I am building a ListView that needs to have five columns - the first one needs to have text that can be any length and needs to wrap whenever the window size changes (in addition to changing the row height so the wrapped text is visible) and the other four columns are a static width of 45. I've been searching for hours on this and every solution I come across either requires a static width or doesn't work.
Solutions tried:
Column widths of auto, 1*, 2*, etc. (settings ignored)
DockPanel (settings ignored)
WrapPanel (ignored)
Setting Width to RelativeSource of parent for ActualWidth (ignored)
Any ideas? It seems like a significant number of people have had this same problem, but I would highly prefer to not have to go the static width route for this column. Especially since the content just gets cut off when I do that anyway (even with height="Auto" for the row). The width of the overall window could be as small as 1024, but could also be 1600+ which is why I want dynamic sizing. That way smaller screens will have the content wrap and larger screens will just show the one line since the content fits.

Not so easy...but it can be done.
I wrote a solution for you. In short, use Expression Blend to create a copy of the ListView Template and delete the ScrollViewer surrounding the ItemPresenter.

How to prevent ItemsControl from horizontally stretching to fit children

I have an ItemsControl, nothing fancy:-

The ItemTemplate contains the following XAML:-

However if the text in the TextBlock is very long, it pushes the NumericUpDown off the r.h. edge of the ItemsControl, e.g.:-
I was hoping that once the NumericUpDown had been "pushed up" against the r.h. edge of the ItemsControl, the TextBlock would then start getting truncated. I assume the current behaviour is due to the ItemsControl using a StackPanel as its items presenter. How can I get it to do what I want?
When you are using SharedSizeGroup with Grid.IsSharedSizeScope="True" the column's Star sizing is treated as Auto, more not official informations here.
The IsSharedSizeScope should not be used for arranging the controls described in the question. You should remove all SharedSizeGroup attributes and set the ItemsControl's HorizontalAlignment to Left.
I think that you might want to try setting the Control.HorizontalContentAlignment Property to Stretch on your ItemsControl. According to the linked page, this:
Gets or sets the horizontal alignment of the control's content.
In plain English, this means that it should set the Width of the rendered children, or items, to the same Width as the ItemsControl.
After a lot of running into dead-ends thinking I could resolve this by changing the ItemsPresenter or ItemsPanel, I ended up using a DockPanel within my ItemTemplate, instead of the grid:-

I'm not entirely sure why the DockPanel respects the size of the parent ItemsControl, while the Grid was happy to horizontally "overrun" off the edge. This is an aspect of WPF that I still struggle with - which controls' sizes are affected by their parent, and which are affected by their children's sizes!

WPF/XAML Layout of two Labels containing different length text whilst maintaining equal size Font Scaling

I'm trying position two labels, one right next to the other (with a small amount of spacing).
e.g.
Label 1 Label 2
the content of each label will always be different, most often Label 2 will have more characters but I want the content to scale as the window is resized and I want the font sizes in Label 1 and Label 2 to remain consistent.
I don't care if the contents of Label 2 are cropped if too long.
I've tried using a grid with two columns and placed the Label inside a ViewBox:

Problem with this is, the positioning is never right and the font sizes don't remain consistent.

I've tried binding Label 2's FontSize property to Label 1's FontSize but that doesn't work as it just returns 12 every time no matter how big/small the font really is (I'm presuming the actual FontSize isn't being calculated because the Label is inside a ViewBox).
Any suggestions?

You can use the following approach:

Note that the second label would never get cropped since the Viewbox would allow the content to render to any size and then scale it. You can specify MaxWidth on the second TextBlock which would limit its size in pixels.
Instead of a DockPanel you can use a Grid with different ColumnDefinitions to achieve the same effect.
The important thing is that they're all in the same Viewbox (which, consequently, doesn't synchronize the FontSize but performs a visual scaling of everything it contains).
The following markup seems to be ok:

Im not 100% sure of what 'content scale as the window resizes' and 'font sizes remain consistent' actuall means, but I guess you want each label to trim depending on available space.
So why not use TextBlock as below

I realize this question is old, but one of the more correct ways to do this is to use Runs.
Runs are sections of text within a TextBlock.
<TextBlock Margin="0,0,0,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" HorizontalAlignment="Left">
<Run Text="{Binding Suburb}" />
<Run Text="{Binding Area}" />
</TextBlock>
Keep in mind that everything within a TextBlock is whitespace-sensitive, so if you wanted to have two Runs back-to-back without any space in between, you would do something like this:

It's similar to how HTML is rendered, if there is whitespace between the tags, a single space is rendered on the page between those elements. This rule only applies to items within a TextBlock, not the entire XAML page.

Silverlight: Set MaxWidth of a textblock to containing column width

in my Silverlight 4 App, I have a simple 3-columns Grid, that contains 3 Textblocks.

The width of the Grid depends on the containing user control. Now I want to cap the size of the first and the third textblock to the current size of their containing column, probably using MaxSize and bind it somehow to the size of the Column of the Grid.
Can anyone here tell me how to do this?

By default the HorizontalAlignment property of the TextBlock is set to "Stretch" so it will fill the available size of the column its in, regardless of its content. Is that what you want?
Perhaps for some reason you do not want the TextBlock to be as wide as the Column it is in if its content does not need all the available space?
If so set the TextBlock.HorizontalAlignment to "Left". The TextBlock will then be only as wide as it needs to be until it reaches the width of the column, then its width will be constrained by the column.

Align items in a stack panel?

I was wondering if I can have 2 controls in a horizontal-oriented StackPanel so that the right item should be docked to the right side of the StackPanel.
I tried the following but it didn't work:

In the snippet above I want the Button to be docked to the right side of the StackPanel.
Note: I need it to be done with StackPanel, not Grid etc.
You can achieve this with a DockPanel:

The difference is that a StackPanel will arrange child elements into single line (either vertical or horizontally) whereas a DockPanel defines an area where you can arrange child elements either horizontally or vertically, relative to each other (the Dock property changes the position of an element relative to other elements within the same container. Alignment properties, such as HorizontalAlignment, change the position of an element relative to its parent element).

As pointed out in the comments you can also use the FlowDirection property of a StackPanel. See #D_Bester's answer.
Yo can set FlowDirection of Stack panel to RightToLeft, and then all items will be aligned to the right side.
For those who stumble upon this question, here's how to achieve this layout with a Grid:

Could not get this working using a DockPanel quite the way I wanted and reversing the flow direction of a StackPanel is troublesome. Using a grid is not an option as items inside of it may be hidden at runtime and thus I do not know the total number of columns at design time. The best and simplest solution I could come up with is:

This works perfectly for me. Just put the button first since you're starting on the right. If FlowDirection becomes a problem just add a StackPanel around it and specify FlowDirection="LeftToRight" for that portion. Or simply specify FlowDirection="LeftToRight" for the relevant control.

If you are having a problem like the one I had where labels were centered in my vertical stack panel, make sure you use full width controls. Delete the Width property, or put your button in a full-width container that allows internal alignment. WPF is all about using containers to control the layout.

Maybe not what you want if you need to avoid hard-coding size values, but sometimes I use a "shim" (Separator) for this:

WPF Grid Column MaxWidth not enforced

This problem stems from not being able to get my TextBlock to wrap. Basically as a last-ditch attempt I am setting MaxWidth on my container grid's columns. I was surprised to find that my child label and textbox still do whatever they want (bad children, BAD) and are not limited by my grid column's MaxWidth="200".
What I'm really trying to do is let my TextBlock fill available width and wrap if necessary. So far after trying many variations of HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" on every known parent in the universe, nothing works, except setting an explicit MaxWidth="400" or whatever number on the TextBlock. This is not good because I need the TextBlock to fill available width, not be limited by some fixed number. Thanks!

I've tried to replicate your problem by pasting everything between your Grid elements in to Kaxaml but everything wraps as you would expect it to. (I inserted regular strings where you were doing bindings and removed the Label style).
It could be that the problem is higher up the tree.
I'd suggest pasting chunks in to Kaxaml or similar to test and see which parent breaks your UI.
I provided an answer to this question, only it was using an ListView instead of an ItemsControl but the issue is likely the same. There is probably a ScrollViewer surrounding your ItemPresenter and you need to edit a copy of the ItemsControl template.
